Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
I think it's time to finally let go of the love affair that redskins and fans have for other teams' players. Let's stop this and concentrate on primarily building through the draft and picking up undervalued and underrated free agents. It's time to start building the team the right way with relying on talent evaluators and the coaches to develop the players' skills once they get on the team.
X2...i doubt we'll make a play for palmer. |
Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
Id think CP for DM would be fair- both QB's are ailing to the their coaching. Marvin Lewis hasn't been able to balance his locker room and win so DM would bring new life to theirs just as CP would bring intelligence to ours. Lets sign the trade now.
so what. how dows that translate to the pro game? newton has alex smith and vince young written all over him. can you name one spread QB that has made it in the NFL? i can't.
Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger, Kyle Orton all made it; Colt McCoy and Tebow had strong rookie years; a lot of people are high on Bradford.
Spread QBs can make it, Newton's bigger issue is the system he played in wasn't a particularly standard spread system. It was closer to Urban Meyer's system than Bob Stoops' pro spread. |
Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
Apparently Palmer is trying to force a decision on the Bengals' OC. What that decision is, I don't know
|
Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
I feel bad for the state of Ohio. It was bad enough that Lebron went through with "The Decision." Now 6 months later Carson Palmer is going through with his own diva act with this trade or retire fiasco.
Still I heard that people are so pissed that they're doing drive by trash dumps on Palmers lawn. |

McCoy didn't play in a true forward pass type of offense. The jury is still out of Tebow and McCoy. Both guys have only played in a handful of games. I remember watching Heath Shuler in college and he played in the same kind of offense that McCoy did and that's who McCoy reminds me of. |

Speaking of full riot mode and burning jerseys.... Jay Cutler is already getting lit up. Literally!! |

Is that a pile of crap on Cutler's jersey?

I don't think so, but look a the magazine page the guy is handing him to use as a fire starter. Definitely something most men take to a football game?! |

Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
No freaking way!
Carson Palmer? No more old players. Young players. Let me repeat. YOUNG PLAYERS. |
Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
Yeah, I've written this elsewhere, but I would definitely go after Carson Palmer, when Palmer comes available. There's a point at which the price may go too high, but I doubt there will be a better player on the market in the next two years at the QB position. Andrew Luck excluded.
Why would you go after Palmer? He has looked like crap the past two seasons. He is an interception machine. I would rather hang on to Donovan than bring Palmer in here. Sure the Bengals are a messed up organization, but so are the Skins, til they really prove that they are turning the ship around. Palmer had a lot of talent to work with and he just sucked this past season. Yeah, both Ocho and TO sucked at the end of the season, but TO put up really good numbers til like week 12. At least Donovan could get to the big dance, Palmer hasn't come close for awhile. |

Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
I'll take palmer for haynesworth
|
Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
Why, that would be giving up a beast for an overrated QB!! You wouldn't be getting a fair trade on that(AH for Palmer). Guy has been surrounded by talent his entire career and rarely has done anything in term of winning titles, division or otherwise.

The 3rd stringer showed more talent and heart than Cutler did on Championship Sunday. |
Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
Just for giggles, here are the QBs who have won the Heisman Trophy in the last 50 years.
Sam Bradford Tim Tebow Troy Smith Matt Leinart Jason White Carson Palmer Eric Crouch Chris Weinke Danny Wuerfel Charlie Ward Gino Toretta Ty Detmer AndreWare Vinny Testeverde Doug Flutie Pat Sullivan Jim Plunkett Gary Beban - - drafted by the Redskins by the way Steve Spurrier John Huarte Roger Staubach Terry Baker The jury is still out on Bradford, Tebow, Troy Smith, Leinart and Palmer. Of the retired ones, only Plunkett and Staubach amounted to much in the NFL. Touting a QB as anything close to a "sure thing" for the pros based on his winning the Heisman Trophy is not supported by data. |
Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
Agreed, no sense in getting Palmer. If we wanted an old washed up QB who was pretty good a couple of years ago -- we could stick with McNabb.
|
Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
Why would the Patriots have put Brady back in when they just won 11 games with Matt Cassel?
Because they won more with Brady. I'm not trying to trash Palmer but he just hasn't been that good. He'll be a good fit for some team, I just don't think it's us. I'd seriously rather ride it on Grossman or McNabb unless we can get Palmer as a free agent. Palmer is one of my fave QBs from the past decade but I think that the ship has sailed on us going after guys like this. |

Why would the Colts trade Peyton Manning and a first round pick to the Pats for Tom Brady and a fourth rounder? Because it would be the right thing to do. What's the question again? |

Haynesworth is being traded one way or another, we'll be lucky to get a thirs round pick for him. We aren't keeping McNabb, and there is a good chance we draft a qb in the first round. I'll take palmer over grossman, and gives us a decent option for at least one season. Plus he is respectable and can teach a rookie qb how to act in the nfl, i.e. not become the next VY. |

Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
There's no way I'd give a pick for this guy.
If he got let go I'd bring him in to challenge Grossman while we groom our new QB. |
Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
Palmer is washed up. He will not resurrect his career here. We need to ride on with Grossman while the QB of the future is developed. We cant keep going after all these washed up QBs and hope to get 1 good year out of them....

Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
Lol I hope nobody thinks he'll come to the Redskins. You don't trade for McNabb and Palmer in two consecutive years... It's just not how you run a franchise.
Blaine Gabbert>>>Carson Palmer Donovan McNabb>>Carson Palmer Rex Grossman=Carson Palmer Yes I just said that. |
Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
I've been a Palmer fan for a while, even though post injury he's been pretty inconsistent I think he's still got the chance to be decent for a couple of years. That being said, I don't see a good scenario to bring him in. He's not mobile enough for our system and there's no picks I would be willing to part with to bring him in.
|
Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
With Palmer I think the loss of throwing power was his elbow. He considered having Tommy John surgery (of MLB pitching fame) but then decided to just rehab it. Not sure where he is in that process but with a gimpy elbow and a reconstructed knee I don't think he is worth bringing in. As has been stated millions of times this team needs to get younger. So unless the Bengals are willing to do a McNabb for Palmer swap I rather we not bring him in. Even then it would be a debatable move.

Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
If this were the NBA-we could send Donovan to Cincy (once/if they hire Brad Childress as their OC), Bengals send Palmer to Arizona. We get Fitzgerald from Arizona
|
Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
If he gets that elbow right he could still have plenty of good years ahead. I think he's far from washed up at 31. That said I definitely don't want him here. We already tried the vet route, time to get a young QB in here that Shanahan can shape and develop to his liking.

I think we would take that trade in less than a second if it was somehow possible. |
Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
McNabb and Palmer are on the same boat I think. Both QBs are in situations where they can help a team that has everything in place (a la Vikings when Favre got there), but are not the answer to a team like ours. I wonder if Palmer's availability will affect us trading McNabb.
