Imagine, we can have 100,000 show up for a SB game, with no political backlash, and general peace, and at the same time another 100K+ are protesting for their livelihood. I know there is a different thread about it, but really, we are lucky. |

I really cannot recall any big emotional reaction from crowds when hearing the NA. |

Re: The Correct Singing Of The National Anthem
I understand how some are upset she messed up, but she didn't purposely mess up. This kind of stuff happens all the time. That doesn't mean she hates this country and what the NA represents.
If you want to hate on her for other reasons(music, personal life, etc.) go ahead, but people need to take a step back and direct their negative energy towards another direction. |

I am saying it has been commercialized and therefore cheapened. Do you disagree with this take? Is saying so an issue for you? |

I don't see the commercialized aspect, after all, it happens at nearly every sport from little league to pro, and nearly every country. Yeah the SB tries to put national names up there, and pretty much fail each time, but the simple act of singing a country's national anthem before a sporting event isn't cheapening it. No, you have every right to say the silliest things. :cheeky-sm |
Re: The Correct Singing Of The National Anthem
Associating the national anthem with the SuperBowl, commercializes it. Anything that is commercialized is cheapened to an extent, IMO. It becomes commonplace and over hyped for the wrong reasons.

No, you have every right to say the silliest things. :cheeky-sm
Keep at it, you will get there eventually and get my rational. Or you could just read SS33's post and the reason why everyone does it now...in doing so you just might realize everything I have said is far from "silliest things." |

Re: The Correct Singing Of The National Anthem
She F... up the verse. I have no problem with that. She did not do that nonsense on purpose and if she could get that moment back....she would! I have a bigger problem with the "personalization" of the National Anthem. IMO sing like it is, don't interpret...just MO. If I were the NFL, I would demand to hear the version that will be sung at the game, before game day.
BUT OMG....I have NEVER seen a worse half time show FAIL.........NFL |

That was right at the start of the first Iraq war so it was an emotional time with or without the NA. I'm just saying in general people do not get all worked up over the NA. |

That too. |
Re: The Correct Singing Of The National Anthem
I think in the future they should just have a regular singer, someone who will perform the national anthem as it is written, and sung in the traditional sense.
No need to put all the bullshit on it and all the crazy vocal runs. Just sing it nice and normal. This police officer did a fine job. YouTube - WORST National Anthem EVER. On a funny note, watch this guy. Also a police officer, he hilariously butchers most of the words, while keeping the melody intact. YouTube - Cop butchers National Anthem |

This is ridiculous, no one has a monopoly on how to sing it correctly...they are all renditions...just have some talent and say the words and you'll do fine.

These two regulations only apply to Army soldiers, not the general public. The "AR" stands for army regulation. AR 670-1 refers to a soldier's appearance, we don't expect everyone to follow the haircut and mustache guidelines set in this manual. |

I know what AR means son. I spent many beautiful years in that fine organization, an organization that was established 1 year prior to this great nation being formed. If anyone has the right to tell you how it should be done then it would be them as far as I am concerned. As I have said before I don't care how people do it because they mean well. Remember this though, when "Martial Law" is implemented who carries out the order and granted control? It might be nice to understand how those people do business. As far as haircut and mustache regulations are concerned I don't expect people to wear them as directed in Army Regulation 670-1, but people would look a hell of a lot more clean cut if they did. Having said that people don't have to conform to the way that Military Chorus' sing the National Anthem, but it would sound a lot more clean cut if they did. |

Actually that's an Army term as well. Some of our old timers may remember the old Western series "The Rifleman". A disgraced officer is forced to do an about face to the unit drummer and drummed out of the service. |

While attending a High School football game a couple of years ago, I became completely enraged and swore to never spend a minute there again. The home team coach went for the "shock and awe" factor when he had his team of 14-18 year olds take the field during the National Anthem. Their arche rival soundly beat the crap out of them that night to my delight. Yet there was no public outcry, not a peep in the local paper. |
Re: The Correct Singing Of The National Anthem
I read some of the post. All I know is when I hear the National Anthem I not waiting or trying to pinpiont out a mistake. The song just moves me everytime I hear it. It is the first song I every learned word for word, for my 5th grade graduation ceremony. So I enjoyed it and every other ones.
The one complaint I do have is when people speak through it. It really angers me I Feel Like Slapping Them Once Its Over. |

Agreed on that! I understand what people here are talking about it being a "rendition" of the song, but you have to admit that some of these crazy runs that some of these singers like to invoke are a little too over the top! Incidentally, I remember hearing C.A. sing the National Anthem for the NBA Finals and she did a heck of a job. Didn't seem to be as over the top with the runs. I think probably what happened was that she got nervous and tried to over correct. |
