JK, but the reason I said it was because although TO's departure had to do w/him wanting to renegotiate his contract for more $, in the end it had as much or more to do w/his destructive behavior.
I will agree w/you in that at the time he was a top wr in the nfl, but at the time he started to 'negotiate' he'd already dissed his qb publicly. Both before & after his time w/philly he exhibited this behavior.
Gotcha. I know TO has his antics (hell, who doesn't know that) but he was a hell of a WR at that time, and if things had worked out the Eagles would have been a contender. |
Re: Andy Reid or Mike Shanahan? Eagles President takes shot at Shanny
This is kind of a pot calling the kettle black type of debate.
There is some busting on Reid here for not winning a superbowl during his time with the eagles...Andy Reid with Jeff Lurie has achieved 1 superbowl appearance, countless NFC Championships. Andy Reid has had only 2 truly poor season, his first as coach, and the second coming when he lost McNabb in 2005 and had no capable backup QB. Almost every year they make the playoffs. Dan Snyder, with his revolving door of coaches, has had only 3 playoff appearances. A losing season each year except for 1999, 2005, and 2007. Never had an NFC Championship with Snyder. Will likely never have a SB with Danny as owner. I find it laughable that anybody would bash Reid and the eagles, while comparing them to Dan Snyder and the Redskins. |
Re: Andy Reid or Mike Shanahan? Eagles President takes shot at Shanny
It is easy to take a shot at the last placed team in the division. Once things are turned around we will smash the eagles twice on the way to the superbowl.
Until Philly wins one then they can talk. If you count Shanny's two that's a total of 5 superbowls between franchise and coach to zero in philly with Reid. That dude needs some class! |
That gimmick offense broke records on our sorry ass d this year, i know we won the first game but they darn sure made up for it in the second one. And again all the bashers on here would love to have AR as our coach!!!!
Our D was also ranked last in the NFL. So what's your point? |

Everyone has a bad game now and then...that loss meant one win, nothing more. When we play again it will be a different story. I remember the body bag game too. And no, I for one wouldn't want Andy Reid to be our coach. He doesn't run the ball enough. You don't win super bowls if you don't run the ball and I like the idea of winning super bowls. |

Shanahan 2 Reid 0.
They are both good coaches. To be fair the Sb victories for Shanahan 1997 and 1998 was a long time ago. Shanahan has not had a playoff team or win since 2005. That is a long time ago by NFL standards. Reid has only had 3 non playoff seasons in 12 years. Shanahan has had 9 non playoff season in 16 full seasons/years as head coach. Shanahan has two SB wins, Reid none. They are both good coaches. |
Re: Andy Reid or Mike Shanahan? Eagles President takes shot at Shanny
Yes they are both good coaches, not denying that, one just happens to have 2 rings and his name isn't Reid. Fact.

Shanahan has not made the playoffs in NINE of his 16 full seasons as head coach. That is less then half. That sucks! Fact. Shanahan won his two SB's with a hall of fame Qb named Elway. Once Elway was gone old Shanhan was fired. Kicked to the curb! Fact. Ouch! Reid in his career as an NFL head coach, has been much more consistent in fielding a winner than Shanahan. Fact. There are shit coaches that won a SB by riding others coat tails, see Barry Switzer. Winning a SB does not make you exempt from sucking. Look I am not siding with Reid nor am I putting down Shanahan. But lets not make Shanahan into more than he CURRENTLY is. Currently he is struggling coach of a struggling franchise. You have to walk the walk before you talk shit....and Shanhan's walk currently is that of a male ballet dancer with a pronounced lisp. Comprende? I do not really care how great Shanahan was last century. Clinton Portis was great at one time too. That does not mean he is great now. |

Good coach... good coach with no SB wins is all I've said from the start. Bringing Switzer into the argument is just pure silliness. And the all mighty Elway didn't win jack until Shanahan came along, so let's not be so quick to give all the credit to Elway. They won those SB's together. Shanahan is what he is right now, a good coach trying to turn around a bad team, but that doesn't diminish his accomplishments. Not a lot of guys have won 2 SB's you know. |
Re: Andy Reid or Mike Shanahan? Eagles President takes shot at Shanny
Someone tell them the reason Andy hasn't won a Super Bowl is because his offense is a fcking gimmick. Let's see, last year it was screens to McCoy, Jackson on a go route, run with Vick, draw with McCoy peppered with a few slants here and there. Handy Andy will never win a super bowl when facing a good defense which is usually what you face in the playoffs.
Don't talk shit about a man who has won two super bowls and coaches in your division. There is no benefit in doing so.
Gimmick offense??? Yeah right. You don't have a top 5 NFL offense and it's a gimmick. That's just a totally 100% ridiculous statement. |

I agree. but by the "your only as good as your last performance" then puts Gibbs in the "wasn't half bad" slot. We know different thou. Skins are a tough team to coach. The last 2 decades of history proves that. |
Re: Andy Reid or Mike Shanahan? Eagles President takes shot at Shanny
Reid is a solid coach but the inability for him to run the ball has killed them in the past especially in big games.. Shanahan has won 2 SBs yeah he had elway but in all fairness 7 didn't win a title before shanny. I'd take mike over Andy anyday

Re: Andy Reid or Mike Shanahan? Eagles President takes shot at Shanny
To me this sums up Mike Shanahan year one. He came in and changed a defense around cause HE thinks it would cause more turnovers. Fail 1. I saw a coach who let his son run the offense when he's suppose to be one of the best playcallers. Fail 2. I saw a coach who did a piss poor job communicating with the players. Fail 3. I saw a coach who made some bad personel moves. Fail 4. I saw a coach who let scrubs like Joey Galloway and Roydell Williams play. Fail 5.

Not many teams run on the Steelers and not many teams have ballers like Rodgers who can compensate for that. Not only that but the Packers had a backup running back in there who just so happened to have ran all over the Eagles. It's still football and played by men for 4 quarters for money and pride. |

It was one year where the team started the year seriously messed up due to years of incompetence, and all the points have been fairly hashed over. 1 - Shanahan switched to 3-4 hybrid because he felt it offered more in terms of turnovers we won at least 2 games (dallas and chicago specifically) due to turnovers. And if the change was going to take place better to do it and see who can adapt and who can't. 2 - Kyle Shanahan was the OC and had done a good job in Houston as playcaller. If MS was interfering with KS people would have criticized him for that. 3 - Actually a lot of the blue collar (non-diva) players constantly said how MS was doing a great job laying out the rules and expectations clearly. 4 - yeah and he made some good ones too. You take the good with the bad. 5 - I saw a coach who let young talent sit and learn behind established professionals until he thought they were ready to take the field based on their practice and work ethic. Bottomline I give him a C this year, but the important measure will be how the team responds and plays next year. |
Re: Andy Reid or Mike Shanahan? Eagles President takes shot at Shanny
"Established professionals" is the most BS excuse ever, especially with regards to vet starters. If anything, backup players are better mentors than has-been stars who haven't taken a bit of humble pie.
McNabb is the master of doublespeak. Almost everything he says, he means the opposite. Galloway? Leader, mentor, or just the go route one-trick pony? Kemo: Done like a burnt pizza yet the whole coaching staff was taken in by his mirage? What the hell? LJ: Gave mediocre effort against scrubs yet that was good enough to merit a roster spot? Just admit that he's another Ron Dayne Shanahan brought in. |

He did a piss poor job of communicating with the players?
I can think of two out of 53 who would say that? AND if that is who we're talking about? Big, deserves much worse than that... Dm could have been handled more tactfully....but he does...thrive in that Butt Hurt role does he not? |

I counting the superbowls only as the headcoach. If I counted that way then I would also count the superbowls for Shanny in San Fran. |
Re: Andy Reid or Mike Shanahan? Eagles President takes shot at Shanny
For a Redskins fan, this will become relevant when Shanahan starts winning. I know this team is a huge challenge for anyone and it is a pretty uphill battle for Shanahan. It is great that Shanahan won 2 SBs and had success in Denver, but that won't mean squat if we end up having poor to mediocre seasons in Washington.

Did you really expect Shanahan and company to come in and take a 4-12 team to the playoffs this year? Really? I see a coaching staff that made some mistakes, yeah, but I also saw a coaching staff who came in and has established some discipline. I didn't like how Shanny handled the situation with McNabb, but overall, I believe the team is in the right direction. And, before you say anything about Kansas City turning things around in one year, there is a big difference. That team was a much younger team and it was Matt Cassel's second year in KC. |
