Re: 2011 NFL Mock Draft thread.
I think Armstrong is fine as a straight line speed guy. But a) I'm really really hoping Kelly can stay healthy and b) I think the diamond in the rough in all of this is Terence Austin. The limited time I saw him play last year, my overriding impression was "this guy is a tremendous route runner" He could really shine. And that's after thinking we shouldn't have even drafted him in the first place. He pleasantly surprised me

Julio has only "straight line speed". He's not the elusive or crisp route runner Green or Moss is. His lack of red zone production scares me too. We need a guy who can separate, get open and do damage in the red zone. |

I feel like we need a receiving corps. Not one guy that we force the ball to. Corps give you more options and help teams evolve. True number one guys on the other hand seem to stunt the progress of many offenses they're built around because rather then working on creative play calling teams seem to get lazy and force the issue. Though it seems to be getting better these days as most of the elite number ones are hardworking team players, and Jones seems to be a continuation of that mold. Still I would much rather try and get two or three solid options as opposed to one great player that we just feed the ball. |
...Going on this history, it appears that the Redskins would be able to recoup their missing fourth-round pick (dealt away in the Donovan McNabb trade) for moving back a few spots or get back the third-round pick they are lacking due to the Jammal Brown deal (they did pick up an additional fifth in that trade) if they go back about five slots or so. The Rams, who hold the 14th pick, could be the perfect trade partner here. They are in desperate need of a top wide receiver to give quarterback Sam Bradford a target and Julio Jones is expected to be sitting there when the Redskins pick at 10. St. Louis’ third-round pick is the 78th overall so they could package that pick along with their first and get the Redskins first-rounder. It just so happens that this works out to be exactly even on the value chart. The difference between picks 10 and 14 is 200 points and the 78th pick is worth 200 points. Certainly, Shanahan will attempt to extort an additional pick out of the Rams, probably a sixth- or seventh-rounder and he just might get it. While the Redskins certainly could use Jones, they could find a player who fits one of their many needs at 14 and perhaps pick up another key performer in the third round. Would love to trade down - we could pick up a 3rd rounder and still pick up a need in mid-to-late 1st round like 2nd tier QB, NT, etc. |
Re: 2011 NFL Mock Draft thread.
^ This trade scenario definitely sounds good, would be awesome if it actually happens..

Terrance Austin is why I think the skins are going to let Moss walk. The new lineup will be Julio Jones, Anthony Armstrong and Austin in the Slot. Kelly will be worked into that rotation as well. |
Re: 2011 NFL Mock Draft thread.
I think BPA is the best strategy with a focus on the front lines.

Re: 2011 NFL Mock Draft thread.
Jones and green won't b there when we pick
Yeah, in 2012. He's returning for his Sr year, facing the suspension. I was responding to idea of waiting for a deeper QB draft next year.
If your waiting to next year there are still better answers in Matt Barkley, Andrew Luck, and Landry Jones |

I didn't say he was, I just said that he is a better option then Pyror |
Re: 2011 NFL Mock Draft thread.
^ Oh yeah I agree with that no doubt, I dont see Pryor being a NFL QB.. As for Jones he's similar to Ryan Mallett but not as strong of an arm.

Good read. I'd love for something to happen, but unless a qb is wanted I don't see it. Mark Clayton/donnie avery don't seem too much different than Brandon Lloyd/Eddie Royal, so I don't see McDaniels lobbying to move up. |

Avery had a horrible injury and Clayton is a very Avg WR. That being said I doubt STL moves up because they don't need a STAR WR with Sam Bradford, the Rams will need OL and DB more than WR IMO. |

I didn't say they were good, I said they were equivilent. Coming into this year, eddie royal was coming off a big injury, and brandon lloyd just plain sucked. And the Rams have Saffold/Smith on the tackles with jason brown in the middle. OL is not a huge concern for them. DB, yes the most definitely need that. More than WR. |

Don't put Landry Jones in there because he would be a traitor (with a name like that). |

One of them will. |
Re: 2011 NFL Mock Draft thread.
Cleveland, Cincy, SF and TEN all have needs at WR
|
Re: 2011 NFL Mock Draft thread.
^ we can get a WR later or in FA.. I'm not big on drafting them in the first round, too many bust at that position and we are not good enough to gamble like that.

Can't really "control" last names but, it's obvious what was on Landry Jones' parent(s) mind when they named him. It's not the same. They could've named LaRon, Jerry Landry... |

I don't think we're taking Locker at 10
|

i see a trade down and then we pick locker with a lower first round pick
|
Re: 2011 NFL Mock Draft thread.
^ Like my original Mock ;)
Actually I'm not so sure we will get Jake unless we take him at 10, someone will take him around 15-25 IMO maybe Seattle will move up |
Re: 2011 NFL Mock Draft thread.
I think if Minnesota doesn't gamble on him (I don't think they will) as long as we are ahead of Seattle, we will get him. I used to hate this idea, but now to me Locker is looking decent before his senior year. All his other stuff is great. And if he sits behind sexy rexy for half a season to a whole season i think he could be great.

Re: 2011 NFL Mock Draft thread.
Aldon Smith is consistantly comming up as our pick in the nfl.com mocks. I watched some games. He is very versatile. Could move him around every where.

Wouldn't mind seeing this.
Would NEVER happen. Jax traded two thirds to move up from the mid 20's to the 8 spot, and every year teams are trading less and less. I read the other two mocks and this guy is clearly delusional. His first mock has us trading from 10-15 so that the dolphins select gabbert at 10 and we select quinn at 15 (and then pick up locker in the 2nd). Neither have a shot to drop that far and why wouldn't we just take gabbert? In my new mock draft I have us trading back to the texans in the 11 spot. We received next years 1st and this years second. We drafted Marcell Dareus with our 11th overall, and robert quinn/ daquan bowers with our two seconds. We select andrew luck with the 32nd overall pick next year after winning the super bowl |

Folks Locker won't go past 24 ish so if we really want him, we may have to take him at 10.. I still hope for a trade back up and get him

I'm nervous about Minnesota. They need a quarterback. If we can't trade them McNabb we might lose locker.

Jw, why 24? thats NO. I do think shannahan has the same mentality though. When he wants a qb he goes and gets him. Traded up for cutler, overtraded for mcnabb, (not sure how he got plummer, but I'd be he overpaid for him). If we want a qb, its going to be 1st round or bust. And shanny doesn't mess around, so I'd say first opportunity we have to take him we do. |
