Read an article about it.
In its report, SI.com said Barber reportedly left his wife of 11 years, Ginny, for 23-year-old Traci Johnson, a former NBC intern. Ginny was eight months pregnant at the time. Soon after, NBC cited its morals clause and terminated Barber's contract, which reportedly paid him more than $300,000 per year.

In June 2010, the New York Post reported Barber was broke and couldn't pay his divorce settlement with his ex-wife.
So:
1) He's broke.
2) He just went through a divorce, because he married an intern he knocked up from NBC when she was 8 months pregnant.
3) Got fired from NBC for knocking up the intern as above.

Too bad that a 36 year old guy considered a candidate for the Hall-of-Fame is considered already washed up, broke and unable to get a job. Every other career and he's in the prime of his career. He's got little chance to succeed in the NFL - but if someone picks him up he'd get vet min $700-800k... So perhaps he IS smart for trying again.

Read again, it was his wife that was pregnant.

Scumbag. Ditched his pregnant wife for an intern. I'm glad she drained his bank account.

I actually used to like him as a person, not so much as a player...he torched us.

Wasn't aware of this mess before...so I change my stance...leave the bum to the other 31 teams. I'll still like to see Herschel try out though, but it sounded like he only wants to play for the Falcons.

I don't think Walker can be a big contributor, I just want to see him try. Guy is a beast and who knows...maybe he can.

Pain, you funny!

I'd be surprised if he made a team though. I mean, I'm sure Willie Parker and LJ are/were in better shape than Tikki and they struggled.

Yep, the douchebag is broke and that's the only reason for his comeback. I need MONEY for sticking my peepee in the wrong place.

Jim Fassel is reasdy to give him a job.

From rotoworld - Jim Fassel, president-GM-coach of Las Vegas Locomotives, plans to call Tiki Barber to let him know that a roster spot is waiting in the UFL.
Last we heard the UFL was having major financial issues, which puts them in the same situation as Tiki. The Locomotives may be Barber's only shot at a consistent workload, allowing him a shot to prove to NFL teams that he still has life left in his legs.

By the way, did anyone hear Shefter's comment about Riggins this morning on Mike & Mike? He was talking about Barber's possible return, and he mentioned that Marcus Allen and John Riggins, respectively, gained the most yards in a season at 36+. He was making the point that the two of them were very unique, and with regard to Riggins, he said that Riggo "was a physical freak of nature." I liked that.

MTK 03-09-2011 01:32 PM

Riggo was definitely a freak. A rare combo of size, speed, and guts.

He'll be careful not to let that fire spread to his bank account. It's illegal you know!

Yeah, the league was a lot different back then. And Riggo was running behind two, three, Hall of Famers. And they didn't take time off and come back at age 36, they were already in football shape. Big difference.

Ronde IS still playing very well. Granted, he's not a RB but who knows...Tiki did subtract 5 years of wear and tear, so maybe he could still play once he shakes off the rust.

Riggins and Allen are two totally different backs compared to Tikki. Should not even be mentioned in the same breath.

Like comparing Apples to Oranges. Who's gonna compare Hall-of-Famers to Tikki Barber who could not hold a job OUTSIDE of football and could not a BALL INSIDE football?

Re: Tiki Barber To Unretire?

No offense to Antonio Pierce and his need to have strong and pointed commentary for his TV job, but let me simply observe that there just MIGHT be a tad of jealousy creeping into his remarks about Tiki Barber.

Tiki may indeed never make an NFL squad and even if he does, there is no guarantee he will be any good at all.

At the same time, Antonio Pierce would be extremely lucky even to get an invitation to come to an NFL training camp in any capacity other than a reporter covering the events there.

I cannot read minds - - but I wonder if this is a factor in his comments...?

What reason does Pierce have to be jealous of Tiki Barber?

sportscurmudgeon 03-10-2011 12:08 AM

Re: Tiki Barber To Unretire?

Barber might get an invite to an NFL camp and a chance to make a team.

I doubt that Pierce's agent could get Pierce such an invite - - unless it was for "replacement games".

Does that bother Pierce? I don't know - - but it might...

Not taking a leap at all. I said I do not read minds and I have nothing close to "inside info" here.

I realize that Pierce and Tiki Barber are not BFFs and that divide is likely never to be crossed by either party. Nevertheless, the degree of rancor that I sense in Pierce's comments is more than I would expect from an analyst who is paid for his professional insight into matters such as these. My reading is that his comments are a lot more "personal" than most of his other commentaries are.

Maybe he just does not like Tiki Barber and would hate to see Tiki succeed in coming back to the NFL.

And MAYBE he would be doubly ticked off to see a successful return by Tiki because He can't do it too...?

^ Mudge, no offense but I think that this is going to work out badly for Tiki and I think Pierce knows that. I'm not sure that there is much room for jealousy.

HOF career and the fact that when Tiki was in NY he was the toast of the town and the owner!AP never was....you and I would be happy to have a super bowl ring when Tiki does not but AP isn't wrapped like you or I.

MTK 03-10-2011 08:46 AM

Re: Tiki Barber To Unretire?

Not sure I would say AP is jealous of Tiki... more than anything I think he just doesn't like the guy. Tiki wasn't very well liked in that Giants locker room, especially when he announced his retirement mid-season. I think that's the basis for AP's comments. He just doesn't like him.
HOF career? Sorry. Not a chance Homer
If he had played these last 5 years and gone over 10K yards, sure, but he ended it too early to get in the HOF.

He had HOF potential, but not HOF numbers at the end. He didn't have a Gale Sayers-like impact, so a career that short won't cut it.

The jealousy remark makes no sense. Pierce has a job, has money and a SB ring. Tiki does not.
