The writing here is too remedial for me to offer an adequate rebuttal. In the future, please take the time to form a well thought out paragraph before typing. Thanks. But- I never said those two preach hate (unless you count Jackson's remarks that he wanted to cut Obama's nuts off). What I was referring to was there hypocrisy. Going after sensational news stories about race (Imus, Kramer from Seinfeld, etc) with vitreal while giving "rapers" & "entertainers" a pass for the role they play in the degredation of black communities for profit. Also, I was unaware of Jackson's and Sharpton's social contributions in the 1950's. I am throuroughly impressed seeing as though Jackson was a teenager and Sharpton was born in 1954....power to the toddlers! BTW- How can you feel comfortable calling me a racist without knowing my ethnic background or upbringing? Your ignorance shines brightly in this post. Oh Yeah....seriously, the KKK? WTF does that terrorist organization have to do with the subject matter?
Preach. |
Re: Was Jamie Dukes out of line on Ryan Mallett?
It must be the off season.....another pointless thread and people getting mad at each other. Half of the former players that go on NFL network are terrible and make dumb comments. Probably the concussion thing....
lol! What did Moon say about Newton? missed that
I don't know for sure if he went after everyone criticizing Newton or just one website, but at the very least he described one draft websites scouting profile as racially biased against Newton because he's a black Quarterback.
ProFootballWeekly's Nolan Nawrocki released sharp criticisms of Newton in his annual draft preview recently, and that increased the attention paid to the Auburn product. Nawrocki, in listing Newton's potential negatives, wrote: "Very disingenuous — has a fake smile, comes off as very scripted and has a selfish, me-first makeup. Always knows where the cameras are and plays to them. Has an enormous ego with a sense of entitlement that continually invites trouble and makes him believe he is above the law — does not command respect from teammates and always will struggle to win a locker room."
It should also be noted that Nawrocki also made similar comments about Clausen a year earlier, using the work fake when describing Clausen's personality. I would take a chance on Mallet as well. From what I have seen this kid can play. It amazes me that in the process of evaluating players, the personal negative stuff has to be made so public. Really only the teams, owners, coaches and front office people are the only ones that need to know this stuff. It should not be made into an hour long show and discussed by some unqualified moron like Jaime Dukes on national tv. These are the personal lives of young adults and not fictional tv, it should be kept more private. This is not like Brett Farve or Ben Roethlisburger situation where they victimized somebody. These are really young adults that smoked some weed and acted the fool in college like most of us did at that age. |

Thats a little much isn't it? It was a simple misguided statement. Not a reflection of someone, who by all accounts is a pretty nice guy, and I've heard that from whites and blacks alike. If Duke's really is a racist then he sucks at it.
^ and what's sad is moon or anyone will come to mallets aid on this . Lol. Still no one should come to his aid if all this stuff is true. If he did it then he did it and a team should hold it against him when it comes to considering weather or not to invest time and money in developing him. Just like GM's should hold Newton's shady past against him when considering investing in him with a high draft pick. |

As an overall player he's not. So if Newton and Mallet are both there you'd take Mallet....... If you had to choose. I personally don't want nothing to do with both of them. |

I agree. If I were forced to choose between the two, I'd take Mallett. His arm likely will lend him a longer career than Newton. But I don't think that either one is right for us. |

I don't want Newton, but only because he's black. If he was white then all of his character problems would be okay :D Still if we're going to use race as a determining factor for who to select then we should just settle on Kaepernick. Half Black, half white. As most geneticist know, genetic diversity produces the strongest offspring. |

In your opinion.... Nobody will know for sure al least for another couple of years. That is the beauty of the NFL and the draft. Charlie Casserly was making an astute point the other day about player evaluation. In talking about how two of the three best qb's in the NFL today (Brady, Brees and Peyton Manning), two were not the first Qb taken in their draft and all the talent evaluation was wrong on Brees and Brady. They were rated too low. So out the three best Qb's in the NFL today, only one of the three draft evaluation was correct. That is 33.333% and very low. |

Tyler Perry annoys me because he comes out with a new movie every month, but I have a tremendous amount of respect for him. He's a survivor of childhood abuse, the kind that leaves most people in pieces. However he was able to overcome it and create an empire for himself. The fact that he came out and talked about in the interest of helping to encourage others to come forward is amazing in and of itself. |

Ok. Some people scratch that lots of people dont agree with you. I've seen whites get treated better in certain cases, I've seen blacks get treated better in certain cases. Is it 50/50? No, only a naive dumbass would believe that, but you can't look me in the computer screen and tell me everyone gets treated the same regardless what their race is. |
Re: Was Jamie Dukes out of line on Ryan Mallett?
I don't think it's all that racist, but IMO the point here is the double standard we see so often in today's society with regard to race issues between blacks and whites.
More often than not, if a white guy is referred to by a black guy as "white boy" or a white guy does something athletic and you hear "not bad for a white guy," most people don't bat an eye. Just like Jamie Dukes can call Mallett a white street guy, and no one outside the blogosphere cares. But if Rich Eisen had called Julio Jones a "black boy," or street, hood, ghetto, nappy headed, or some other term of that nature, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would be beating down his door. Me personally, I don't really give a damn. Skin color has never really mattered to me. But the double standard annoys me.
Get used to it GM. America lives off of double standards. |
Re: Was Jamie Dukes out of line on Ryan Mallett?
Not a big Duke's fan b/c, as someone else said, he's just another talking head who, IMO, doesn't bring anything to the table. As to the particular comment, whatever, as others have said, poor word choice. Happens to all of us every now and then.
Also, not sure if anyone realizes this, Dukes was actually trying to compliment Mallet and say that, essentially, his personality is somewhat off-putting b/c he isn't a corporate whitewashed Disney QB. Dukes then implied, through very inept phrasing, that Mallet's personality meshed well with his teammates and would bring something different to the table. Of course, Cosell was trying to compliment V. Seay when Cosell called him "that little monkey". |

Re: Was Jamie Dukes out of line on Ryan Mallett?
I wasn't offended by anything GMScud said because
A) He wasn't talking about me (or you for that matter) B) He was giving an example of something that technically is true. C) I don't know him. And finally D) I don't care if he was racist. BTW I am black also and I know what Al and Jesse mean to a lot of black people but they do have a reputation of always going to the extreme. (Even when not necessary.) |
Re: Was Jamie Dukes out of line on Ryan Mallett?
Does anyone mad about this comment watch the NFL Network, Dukes loves this guy and thinks he may be the best player available? Re: Was Jamie Dukes out of line on Ryan Mallett?
The government and people in general go to extremes one way or another to right wrongs. There comes a time when enough is enough. Things have reached that point in my opinion. There should be no double standards for anyones benefit. Let's move on. But remember to never let it happen again.....toward ANY race.

I think the Duke LaCrosse players would probably disagree with you. Your beloved Jesse Jackson supported a future murder over a bunch of college kids all over the color of their skin. Duke lacrosse accuser charged with attempted murder - Durham County - NewsObserver.com Fact is bro, if the police beat your ass and it's not in the national spotlight, he's not going to give your ass a second thought. I saw this HBO special where this guy from Cali was pursuing his family members death by officers. All he wanted was answers, and nobody would help this guy. He finally ended up going to Washington, DC and it there was this event going on where many black representatives were attending. He waited till Jesse and AL came out only to be basically stiff armed by the men because they weren't really interested. However, there was awesome black congresswoman that stopped and listened to the man's story and then gave him contact information to her office. I applauded that woman, and did more for that man than those frauds Jesse and AL did. You might be right. Maybe those guys were instrumental during the 50's and 60's, but their agenda has clearly changed since that time. I think too much is made on race all together. The more you talk about it, the more of a issue it becomes. |

Re: Was Jamie Dukes out of line on Ryan Mallett?
Dukes statement was stupid but not racist.
One of the major issues with the racial dialogue in this country is that we can't have non emotional discussions about it. I'm going to hop aboard the broad strokes train but most white people don't like discussing issues of race because they either 1) feel that most claims of racism are invalid 2) don't have the experiences to speak about it from multiple perspectives or 3) wish the whole subject would go away so they wouldn't have to deal with it. Most black people get frustrated discussing issues of race because 1) the whole notion of 'the race card' is insulting and dismissive 2) experiencing something and acknowledging something are two different things and many times you can't identify with what you haven't experienced or 3) the specter of 'Jesse and Al' get tossed about as if we all have them on speed dial-again insulting and dismissive. Sadly, none of us will live long enough for race to be a non factor in our country. /end sermon BTW, I think Jake Locker will make a fine WR/Wildcat QB for some NFL team. :-) |

Whoever drafts him better have a damn good offensive line. I still can't believe he's as slow as he's been timed. Good gracious that guy moves like molasses on a cold winter day. It's really a shame when 300+ guys can run faster than a QB. |

Although I do not advocate our drafting him, and yes he was outraced by a turtle, please note that neither Peyton Manning nor Tom Brady are speed demons and they seem to do ok. A quick read and quick release cure many ills. |

Re: Was Jamie Dukes out of line on Ryan Mallett?
I think Ryan Mallett is solidly a first rounder. But if you look back at the last ten years at all QBs who had negative rushing yards in college...they're tough to develop as pro passers. Either they excel right away, or they never really enjoy success because defenses tee off on them before they have a complete grasp of NFL offense. It's tough to win with a rookie, immobile quarterback because you cannot move the chains by any other means besides a rookie QB throwing the football.

There is a double standard with statements because of history. A certain race had been enslaved for a bit of time. Just because slavery is over doesn't mean all the reminants are gone. Hence why people get more upset over racist statements towards black people.

Pretty much every general race (Black, White, Asian, Arabic, etc) has been enslaved at some point. I know back in the middle ages the British used their Irish neighbors as a supply for slaves. A hundred years or so later they found out Africa had more supply, not to mention it would be harder for a black person to hide then a white Irish slave that could blend in. Romans likely made peasants from every conquered territory slaves.
From 1641 to 1652, over 500,000 Irish were killed by the English and another 300,000 were sold as slaves. Ireland’s population fell from about 1,500,000 to 600,000 in one single decade. Families were ripped apart as the British did not allow Irish dads to take their wives and children with them across the Atlantic. This led to a helpless population of homeless women and children. Britain’s solution was to auction them off as well. During the 1650s, over 100,000 Irish children between the ages of 10 and 14 were taken from their parents and sold as slaves in the West Indies, Virginia and New England. In this decade, 52,000 Irish (mostly women and children) were sold to Barbados and Virginia. Another 30,000 Irish men and women were also transported and sold to the highest bidder. In 1656, Cromwell ordered that 2000 Irish children be taken to Jamaica and sold as slaves to English settlers.
|
