Re: Which Undrafted Free Agents should we try to sign?
^ sorry again didn't mean to derail the thread but all I keep hearing is "I hope the 8th Circuit lifts the lockout." which essentially means the owners are going to have to give the players what they want.
Let's stay on topic we've got numerous threads covering the lockout. |
Re: Which Undrafted Free Agents should we try to sign?
Yes sorry again. I was in the moment reading what other had said and after I entered the statement I realized I screwed up.
Back on track.... Did anyone see the NFL Network interview on the LB who was not drafted... I think it was Mark Herzlich - MLB- Boston College? It was a nice interview about him having a great season, then he finds out he has cancer, one of his friends/teamates usually leaves town every year and when he called he informed him that he would be staying at the school and going through chemo. His friend said he'd stay with him and make sure he drove him to every chemo meeting. The kid does seem kinda like a nice level headed kid. I'd have to imaging he lost some size due to the chemo but if he could bulk a little bit more up he might be a steal. |
He got drafted by some ufl team.... shame (per shefty)
But.... can't the players if offered a job by the NFL leave for the NFL or do they have to wait till their season is over with the UFL? and on that note aren't the two seasons at different times? |

Once they sign a contract with the UFL, they are comitted for the season (which ends in late November). So you'll probably see guys like Herzlich wait until the last possible minute to decide whether to sign with the UFL team that drafted them |
Re: Which Undrafted Free Agents should we try to sign?
SS, do you know what is holding teams back on this guy, Herzlich? Still having treatments? Not all the way back? He was a bad man before all this happened. I would love to bring him in if there is...any chance of return to former...form

Maybe thats what happened. I remember something from last year players who were mentioned to be playing for a UFL team all of a sudden were not and were assigned to an NFL team. The CFL is different though right. Players can leave at any time? |

I know no more than anyone else here. I guess teams are nervous about the cancer |

The CFL is different though right. Players can leave at any time?
Players under a CFL contract have a 6 week window (first 6 weeks of the calendar year usually) to sign with an NFL team. After that, they can't until the following year. That's why you see such a run on CFL players signed around late January/early February |

The CFL is different though right. Players can leave at any time?
Nope. A contract is a contract. You sign a contract, you play for that team, unless that team deigns to set you free. |

THANX
The Rock knows all...... If not for Herzlich is there speculation of what round he could have gone? His combine stuff didnt seem all that impressive. |
Re: Which Undrafted Free Agents should we try to sign?
Wow I didn't even think about him until now. How did he not get drafted??
I was thinking about Noel Devine. I feel like last year we would have wanted him, but since hes so small and cant really block he doesnt really make sense this year since we have no proven blocking back on a team with still a lot of questions at center guard and right tackle. |
Re: Which Undrafted Free Agents should we try to sign?
Herzlich could make it on the practice squad and develop into a great vet if he can stay healthy. He is a high reward pick up
|
Re: Which Undrafted Free Agents should we try to sign?
Wow I didn't even think about him until now. How did he not get drafted??
Yeah I was surprised him, Devlin, and Herzlich (though I knew less about him I saw a lot of people projecting him as a 6th or 7th rounder) not getting picked up. I guess it was due to Devine's last season after coming back from the injury. How did Fannin not get drafted by the Raiders in the 3rd round since he's BIG and FAST? |
Re: Which Undrafted Free Agents should we try to sign?
He got drafted by some ufl team.... shame (per shefty)
none of these guys declared for any sort of UFL draft therefore they are NOT locked into playing in the UFL the draft on the UFL is more like a "rights to the player" draft should he decide to play in the league |

I think we should keep an eye on Cooper if his ACL has fully healed could be a nice pick up. |

Or a buyout. By the way I'd like to reinforce the idea that the team should really go after Scott Tolzien. |

Tolzien's horrendous. Waste of a signing if you ask me. |

For an UFDA? I assume you mean at the cost of signing Potts or Devlin and personally Tolzien is more attractive then the screener and the guy riding Flacco's coat tails. |

No I mean don't bother signing any of these UDFA QB's. Theres a reason they didn't get drafted, and I don't see anything in them that makes me say "Oh he could be the next.." Wait for FA and get a Gradkowski or something. |

Everyone was drafted in front of Kurt Warner for a reason. Matt Cassell didn't start in college for a reason. Marino was the last QB drafted in the first for a reason. Romo went undrafted for a reason :D Either way this team should be no different then the others that bring in 4 or 5 guys to compete for 3 spots. Especially considering the uncertainty we have at the games most important position. I would at least want one of the 4 or 5 to be a promising UDFA. |

And about 30 I'd take before Devlin. Ditto for Jerrod Johnson. I'd take any of the UNC undrafted guys, Herzlich, Any of the Oregon, Standford, and TCU undrafteds before I took any of your 'worth taking a chance on' QB's. Haha true, except two things: Kellen actually has a line and balanced offense that would/will keep him from getting sacked every play like Colt was in that Georgia Sugar Bowl. Second, I've been hyping up Kellen since the TCU Bowl game last year. Colt I didn't start hyping until the early part of his senior year. Kellen Could be the next Kurt Warner ("weak" arm, very accurate, smart QB) in my opinion |
