With the way free agency is shaping up I group the QB's as follows.

"I will accept no less then a starting job." - Marc Bulger, Matt Hasselbeck,

"I better have a good chance of winning the starting job" - Alex Smith, Matt Leinart,

"I'll settle for a backup job, but a starting job would be nice" - Senneca Wallace, Matt Moore

"Can I haz job? Any j0b will be K." - Brady Quinn.

Hass has a hard time staying on the field because of health issues. For this reason I would prefer (gulp) to have Vince Young.

Where does Tarvaris Jackson fit?
Redsk1, you are correct. It is possible that the team will be worse than last year. And yet I still believe we are heading in right direction. Shanny and Allen are trying to change the culture in Redskins organization and they are succeeding so far. Even Willie Parker said that Redskins organization didn't care about football, all players cared about was partying. The FO are trying to change that by bringing in young hard-working players (see Kerrigan, Hankerson, and etc..). That is what I care about the most.
I'm w/ you. Sure I'd love for the team to win 10 games next year. I'm ok winning 5 or 6 b/c I think we are heading in the right direction.

I think Tarvaris would fit in the Shannys system better than VY. He has a better arm, better accuracy, mobility is about the same but Tarvaris has no character concerns and mental breakdowns. I can vouch for that i went to school with him i know real well.

That's pretty cool that you went to school together. I've always rooted for TJ. Sure, he's not Favre but I think he deserves as much a chance as anyone else mentioned.

He is down to earth & made sure he avoid trouble in high school & college. He is a team player and a class act IMO.

Might I point out that someone said the team when they lost only lost by a touchdown or less. I'm in no way saying this is a SB team but if the defense can show up this year and actually stop the opponent from getting one TD and perhaps get more turn overs which gives more opportunities for the offense then hopefully the team will have a better record.

Didn't the Skins beat both teams who played in the SB?

I believe you're thinking of the NFC Championship. The Skins beat both teams that participated in the NFC Championship.

Which isn't a big deal the AFC is sooooooooooo much better. If NFC teams had to play in the AFC they wouldn't win a game. The only reason an AFC team won the Super Bowl is the Steelers were so beaten up from playing an AFC schedule. Forget the fact that the Packers had to play 5 straight must win games and the Steelers got a bye week in round 1 as well as a week 17 game with nothing to play for against the upstart Browns. And it's not like the Packers had THAT many injuries.

I think he's been mentioned as an option, at least last year he was. But he's around 35 years old. I want some youth at the QB spot, I don't like that we're the only team in the league that doesn't have at least one QB under 30 on our roster.

Detroit came close to winning a bunch of games too. You aren't a winner until you actually WIN the damn games.

Re: The Mike Shanaplan

When you really go back and look at some of the games the Skins lost last year it really will be difficult to play worse. I think the running game will be somewhat improved if Helu and Royster can contribute at all. Neither can pass protect but they both come from big programs where they put up serious numbers.

Trent played well at times and should only get better in his second season. The big question mark for me is who plays the right tackle and center positions. JB will probably want to play somewhere as a left tackle and Rabach is just not able to play anymore. Whoever does end up taking the snaps will probably be running for his life a lot. There are some big FA tackles that are going to be available but who knows if they fit the blocking the scheme.

Free Agency is really up in the air. If RFA tenders are dropped from the CBA then we may have one of the largest/deepest free angency markets in recent history. But we could go after some nice O-Line talent, and cornerback talent in the event Rogers leaves.

The defense essentially has to improve over last year but for the fact that we have a decent safety in Atogwe and we have a new pass rusher to pair with Orakpo. The 3-4 pass rush lives and dies with the ability to generate pressure from both edges and collapse the pocket. The really big x factor now is who will be playing the nose spot. I think Chris Neild could push for serious playing time.

Re: The Mike Shanaplan

One thing I will say though about last years team, is while we may say that bad kicks cost us a few games we also have to remember that we won two by knocking out the opposing teams QB. Had Vick not been hurt in game 1 and Young with the Titans we were likely looking at another two losses. So even though 2 or 3 games were lost because of problems with the kicking game we also ended up with breaks in two others.

Either way it's kind of impressive to come away with 6 wins despite having the 31st ranked defense, 30th in rushing, and a QB with a sub 80 rating. The defense this year should finish no worse then 17th and now come in with top 10 potential with all the new parts coming in. The running game can go either way finishing in the 20's or just as easily in the top 10.

Little doubt though that the formula is set. Run the ball, play tough defense, and if Beck develops great, if not use the passing game when you can.

Actually, the 1st Eagles game was even closer. If Avant had made that catch, Eagles win.

If Rogers makes the interception, Avant doesn't even have a chance to make the catch

Luck fans - you guys really need to give up on the hope of drafting Luck next year.. Unless our #1 and #2 QBs get injured early in season, there's no way we will have the worst record in NFL next season, not with Shanny in the regime.

Put it this way. The Cardinals were using Derrick Anderson, Max Hall, and John Skelton. They were 31st in passing, 30th in rushing, 23rd in Pass Defense, 30th in rush defense. They had virtually no offensive line. And the highest they got was the 5th pick.

Honestly though, this "lose out" stuff is getting annoying, and we arent even guaranteed to play the 2011 season yet. I can only imagine how annoying it's going to be once the season starts.

This.

I don't wish Luck any harm but I wish he would just disappear so that people would stop rooting for us to lose like Dallas fans do.

Re: The Mike Shanaplan

And Luck could also go back to Stanford for another season (Redshirt Junior in 2011). So tanking this season and getting the first pick doesn't guarantee that you end up with Luck. He comes from a rich family so money is only so important to him.

We got Ovechkin, Strasburgh, and Wall. The DC area is out of number 1 pick karma.

Media is devouring fans!! Lurking them into thinking whatever media want them to think! Dude, even media cannot predict what will happen next year.. Dirtbag said it perfectly, Arizona was one of the worst team (worse offense than ours) and yet they picked at 5th.. God forbid, if we actually are the worst team next year - it still is very unlikely for us to be at #1 spot.

Jontrem 05-07-2011 10:39 PM

Re: The Mike Shanaplan

I doubt we are a last place team, and while I would like to get Luck next year also, it is in no way worth tanking the entire year.

But Rogers normally chokes in big moments like that. It's not a matter of "if", it's matter of "won't" with Rogers. Avant only started choking last year.

Luck is a pipe dream. For all of you effing idiots who want to tank the season for the sake of the first pick, Keep huffing glue.
Your heads are up your arses, your hearts are seriously misguided, and I'm sure your I.Q.'s are sub-70's.

Lotus 05-08-2011 12:02 PM

Re: The Mike Shanaplan

Even if we do get the #1 pick and draft Luck:

a) He could have a career-ending injury early in his career.
b) He could be a bust. Stranger things have happened.
c) Someone chosen later may prove to be a better NFL QB. Stranger things have happened.

Thus rooting for us to tank the season so that we can draft Luck could be foolish in a practical sense.

This on top of the fact that it is traitorous to root for your team to lose.

Paintrain 05-08-2011 12:52 PM

Re: The Mike Shanaplan

We can forget all of the 'lose enough to get Luck' stuff because it's moronic. There's no guarantees about him or that we'd get the #1 pick even. With the thread name, I'd double guarantee that it's nowhere near a Shanaplan to lose ANY games, definitely not tank a season to get a high draft pick. Anyone who suggests we LOSE games, especially in May, is a flat out embarrassing sorry excuse for a fan.
