That said, Johnson lives in a nice area. So in this case he's right, this seems like profiling.

The question is, were people profiling him because he's black, or because they know he plays in the NFL?
Or because they've heard him speak and have come to the realization that he's stoned out of his ****ing mind?

Not do drugs. Sell drugs.

Dealers generally would not be well off if not for the drug money.

Re: CJ28 Doesn't like COPS. Says "It's hard being young, black and rich"
now we are talking about who is selling and buying, all i'm saying is just because you live in a fancy neighborhood and eveyone drives bmw's doens't mean they aren't up to no good.

what was intially said was:

and personally i think that statement is very iggnorant, regardless of race or nationality, he is saying people with money get together play poker, drink brandy, and smoke cigars, while poeple with no money are involed in illegal activities. imo i think that is a old fashioned way of thinking, but it's just that, my opinion.
First, you're putting words in my mouth, namely the bolded parts. I never said those things.

What I said was the likelihood of a constant parade of people in and out of a house is more likely to be suspicious in a lower income neighborhood than in a higher income neighborhood. There are facts and figures to back that up, it's not some broad-brushed generalization.

Never did I say that low income people are always up to something illegal.

Your reading comprehension and critical reasoning skills need work.

Income is an indicator of a lot of things for a lot of reasons:

- There's less incentive to commit crime when you can legally support yourself comfortably.

- There's more to lose by risking getting caught by the police.

- Higher-income neighborhoods have more tax funds available to fund local police. Look no further than Camden NJ where they recently laid off 24% of the police force.

- Now combine the above. In higher income communities you have high ratios of police force to residents, and lower incidence of crime because mostly the citizens just want to go to work and live their comfortable lives. The result is a police force with not much to do but investigate the most mundane calls.

- And do the same in lower income neighborhoods. You have a police force that's spread too thin, and a high incidence of crime because more residents turn to crime to make ends meet. The result there is a police force that can't always respond to 911 calls in a timely manner.

I'm not profiling Chris Johnson. It has nothing to do with race. This is just the way our society's socioeconomic machine operates.

Why is it so hard for us to get past race? It's a shame in 2011 that we can't accept that there a good Blacks and Whites; Bad Blacks and Whites. Throughout history (and in 2011) we've never fully accepted that fact. As a white male, I will NEVER, nor try to understand what and how a black man in America is treated, and stereotyped. I have friends who are black and go through the same Racial profiling crap CJ28 went through. I think (at least in my lifetime) racial issues will still continue to be part of America. Sad, but True

I agree with this post! There is going to be racism on ALL sides of the racial spectrum. It's never going to change. There is also going to be elitism amongst the population as well. And profiling, whether if it is racial or by class, will continue to be exercised in this country whether if we like it or not. I often find it to be true that "poor" people are often given the same treatment as minorities. I don't care the degree, selling dope can be a reality in a rich neighborhood as it is in a poor. I actually happen to know this by fact.

I think Chris was right about the "suspicion" of drugs being moved in and out of his condo, but sometimes athletes really need to stop this "their out to get me crap"

Johnson also tweeted "I should have gave them some doughnuts"
This is something that only Blacks guys will understand. I remember Will Smith gave an interview a few years back where he stated that he still gets pulled over in L.A especially if he's driving one his luxurious sports cars. He said once the Cops realize it's him, they become extra freindly and ask for an autograph for the kids, and let him on his way. Now, there's some who will fabricate the entire situation and blame everything on them being Black.

I remember I use to commute with my boss to work(A Black man), on somedays he would take his old beat up Toyota Truck because the thing was an uber gas saver. His normal vehicle was a newer Escalade. However, I remember 3 seperate occasions where he was pulled over for no reason. Actually there were, one time the offier said it because the liscence plate light was to dim, the other one was he was swerving in and out of the lines(which he wasn't), and the third time they pulled him over because he left his gas door open?

I was completely mortified that this was happening, I was thinking to myself this is what Black guys talk about when they get harrassed for no reason. Lord knows what could of happened If I wasn't there. I've seen this happen myself, however like I said, I've seen people cry wolf, when they were guilty as all hell too.

If I've offended you, well, I don't really care because I haven't said anything racist. Your sensibilities are too delicate.

CJ got profiled by his neighbors. It could have been for a number of reasons:

- He's black
- He's an NFL player (see Goodell's personal conduct policy and the number of guys snagged by it)
- He came from a poor, uneducated background

Note that never did I say any of this is cool, and never did I say that CJ deserves the profiling because he's black.

Sure any race could have called it in, but to say that a cop is judging CJ because he is black is ignorant. Stereotypes are everywhere. It's great to think otherwise.

I normally don't make comments on racial issues because to some extent it is similar to arguing about Religion or Politics...you are never going to change peoples minds. However I just wanted to point out that this discussion has been handled pretty well by everyone, very few useless accusations thrown around and no slurs that I read. Sadly race will always be seen as an issue in this country, though I agree that it is probably more about economics at this point.

I am lucky enough to that my fiance makes very good money (she makes a good amount more than I do) so we bought a house in an affluent neighborhood. My neighbor is African-American (like lived in South Africa until he was a teen) and he and I quickly became good friends because we have common interests, go to the same restaurants read the same books and watch the same movies. If you replaced him with a white guy from a 'hood I doubt I would have anything to talk to him about and hence we wouldn't be friends.

Re: CJ28 Doesn't like COPS. Says "It's hard being young, black and rich"

As SS33 alluded to, many a non-black, non-wealthy person has been profiled/prejudged and you never hear a peep about it. The truth is, it makes people feel good when they see themselves as the victim who has all odds stacked against them and they still come out on top. Whether that's actually the case or not, it makes people feel good to believe it.

I was thinking the same thing. I can see the rich white neighbors talking about this young black guy living in their neighborhood. They see all the cars and first thing they think about is all the drugs he is selling. They feel so strong about this they even call the cops before the neighborhood goes to shit. In this case though the cops did what they had to do so I don't blame them.

And if they found something and the police were right, would you still be saying "f the police". Profiling is used because it works. I know we are in 2011 and racism is horrible, but police use the tools they know work. What if profiling stopped a shootout in your neighborhood, would you be complaining then?

Sorry but young blacks also bring some of that stuff on themself. Just look at MTV and thats how they make out the dealers in their videos. Then you have profiling by the cops which is also to blame. To blame one side is not fair.

it worked this time, right?

if this was the 'tip' to investigate criminal activity, the police shoulda said thanks for the tip and just kept it moving:

"the Orlando Police Department got an anonymous "non-specific" tip about high-end cars entering and exiting Johnson's condo complex yesterday afternoon"

I dont think that warrents an investigation...

To be honest if I had a neighbor of any color that had cars always coming and going first thing I'd guess would be drug dealing or some other illegal activity.

Re: CJ28 Doesn't like COPS. Says "It's hard being young, black and rich"

As long as my neighbors are quiet I don't really care to be honest. At my last house, I had a problem with people coming and going late at night and playing loud music, instead of calling the cops I went over and asked them to ask their friends to stay quiet when in the area, problem solved.

As a society we are too afraid to talk to our neighbors about things like that for some reason. Instead we just want to get the cops involved.

Jesus Christ. Reading is fundamental, people.

He said, "If I had a neighbor of any color..."

Meaning white, black, asian, whatever. So race ISN'T the issue for him, it's the fact that there's a parade of people to and from the residence that makes him suspicious.

When they bring it into your neighborhood then they have brought it to your front door. I'm not talking about the couple smoking pot or snorting some coke I'm talking about dealing. Criminal activity like that brings more criminal activity and I'm not waiting for my wife or child to get hurt before doing something.
