First let me say that I'm in no way questioning your love of country or Ron Paul's for that matter.

I don't know if Ron Paul is a pacifist, but I maintain I'm not sure if he would, under extreme circumstances, stand up and defend this nation. In a recent interview Mr. Paul said he wouldn't haven't killed bin Laden. He would have cooperated with the Pakistani government to try to bring bin Laden to justice and uphold the rule of law. These are his words. So I have a very difficult time reconciling his stance on matters of protecting our national interests with his interpretation of the Constitution and upholding the rule of law. I believe he's a good man, but following the Constitution to the letter can sometimes be a tricky proposition and doesn't guarantee that we will be at peace with the world.

Whether or not we can draw a straight line from our sometimes flawed foreign policy towards Arab nations over the past 60 years to the atrocities of 9/11 is somewhat of an open question, to be honest. Did the unprovoked invasion of Iraq fuel hatred towards the West, I believe so. (see my final comment below) But on the other hand, muslims are also guilty of murdering and oppressing muslims by the thousands through repressive regimes, without any U.S. involvement or military intervention. Interestingly enough, though, we're now seeing the Arab world reach out to the United States to get involved with the new wave of democracy spreading across the region. So no, it's not all about us shoving our way of living up their asses.

We both agree with your following statement: Marching all over the world, and acting like the police chief of the planet Earth isn't 'national defense'. It pisses people off, and we shouldn't be surprised when it comes back to bite us.
Sorry but look at Obama's flip flops after he got into office and got to see what was really going on behind closed doors. I'd say the same thing will probably happen with another new president no matter who they are. Gitmo is a good example.

Re: Ron Paul to Run for President
My post was against a couple of Paul's principles. One, blaming inflation for for our woes. Now, I'm not too deep in knowledge about his platform, but he seems rather adamant about stopping it at all costs. If he's trying to "stop" inflation, that means it the inflation % must be brought down to 0% or less.

Two, he's trying to dismantle an institution that isn't that bad. His hardcore "must stop inflation" line would backfire on him and tossing the Fed sure wrecks the logistics of a lot of things, even little things like clearing checks. And, as I have already mentioned, if he doesn't want the Fed, then folks will have to live with the risks of bank runs and the risk of not getting any of their deposited money back.
I don’t think his idea of dismantling the Fed would be a overnight thing, he just wants to return to the Gold Standard (which im against). I think your thoughts that there will be no oversight of banks and basic things like check clearing will go away are misguided. Paul and most other people don’t care about that they just don’t like that the Fed has the ability to manipulate our economy though various monetary tools.

The one thing I would be up for is to have the Fed audited, which I see as a why not type thing. I don’t think its going to reveal anything but I think transparency is one of the most important factors in government including a private bank which exercises monetary policy.
You said it, bro. I lost all respect for Rudy at that very moment. What a complete douchebag he is.

Just goes to show that way too many people believe that when an Arab comes over here to kill Americans it's called terrorism -- But when the U.S. Gov't does the same thing over there it's called counter-terrorism.

Hopefully some day we'll learn...
I disagree with that. We are not terrorists. But i will say you don’t hear of many terrorist attacks in Canada or Australia….. maybe its because they don’t have a occupational presence felt around the world? We are so isolated geographically and could have things so good with regards to peace. Maybe we shouldn’t try and police the world Team America style?

From your link it doesnt sound like he actually said "I wouldnt have killed bin Laden", but i agree thats inferred from what he did say:

"I think things would be done somewhat differently," Paul said, of how he would have handled the situation, citing "respect for the rule of law and world law and international law."

Paul says that instead of sneaking into Pakistan and killing bin Laden, he would have cooperated with the Pakistani government and put the al Qaeda leader on trial - a strategy, he argues, that has worked for the United States in the past.

"I would suggest ...the way they got Khalid [Sheikh] Mohammed," Paul told Conway. "We went and cooperated with Pakistan. They arrested him, actually, and turned him over to us, and he's been in prison."

"What's wrong with that?" Paul asked. "Why can't we work with the government?"

If you're keeping score, they have him at 135 promises kept, 42 promises broken, 40 promises compromised.

For instance, click on the link of Obama's promise to create a $10 billion foreclosure fund or the one where he promises to double the size of Peace Corps. Politifact gives a convoluted and drawn out explanation as to why they categorize these as a "broken" promise. None of them are cut and dry as advertised. Some of them fall more into the category of compromise.

Still, I like Politifact and how they hold our officials, including the president, accountable.

Iraq, Gitmo, having terrorist trials here in the states (that one he tried but realized it was a bad idea). Actually flip flop is the fun name to use when a politician flips on an issue but I 'll have to say I think Obama change his opinion on some issues after getting briefed and seeing the dangers we face. He has actually made some moves I was surprised with

I think they're still going to close Gitmo, it was just much, much harder than they anticipated. He'll get it done though. Iraq, I believe he's on schedule drawing down that occupation, no?

Yeah, bin Laden was hiding is a large, easily visible compound for a long ass time near one of their military academies and they never bothered to tell us. Paul's commitment to deotonlogy is both admirable yet foolish.

I thought the same thing. I really don't know what to make of this anymore or what he actually stands for. One minute he's for invading Libya, then he flips. Then he's for the individual mandate, but on the other hand he wants to repeal Obamacare? Very bizzare.

To be honest, I feel sorry for the guy. I mean he is normal to me too, which makes it tough to watch such an epic fail. He is so normal, I really dont see a great leader. I worry about his health. Poor guy. The last time he lead in the House, he was forced to embarrassly resign by pressure within his own party. Bill Clinton just whipped his a$$. I mean anyone remember the monica and clinton ordeal? Who woulda thought Newt was doing the samething at the sametime. Newt save yourself and get out now.

Google Newt Gingrich...the second autocomplete is Newt Gingrich Glitter...thats just damn embarrassing and freakin hilarious

Newt's negatives within even the GOP are too high. He's in to influence the policy debate and maybe be a VP candidate. No way he wins the GOP nomination. With Huck and Trump out, look for Michele Bachmann to run and show strong.

But I love how the Ron Paul thread has morphed into the Newt thread.
