So Oakland may have been right to believe he could be a good bump and run corner, but Hall never believed in his own ability to do so, and so he never did it well in Oakland.

In that way, at least, the DeAngelo Hall:Oakland::Albert Haynesworth:Washington Analogy holds up quite well. Haynesworth probably could excel at 3-4 5 technique if he put his mind to it. But Hall actually did excel at it when he had a point to prove.

After he got the $52 million deal from us though, Blache never even pretended to attempt to hold Hall accountable for anything. That was a Rogers-only policy.

The funny thing about this is: DeAngelo Hall is a far better man coverage player than a zone coverage player. It's not even close. He's a perennial pro bowl talent in man to man, and a consistent non-performing coverage liability in zone. But if given the choice, Hall would only ever play zone coverage because he likes the 1:100 chance of getting an errant pass thrown to him and creating points and field position out of the return. And too many DCs in recent memory have given Hall a choice.

The thing I've noticed though is that as loose as Hall plays, not to mention games where he gives up pretty sizable gains the defense was still able to prevent opposing teams from putting up points. Most notably in the Green Bay game where Halls cushion almost set up a game winning field goal for the Pack.

It seems though like he played more conservative during the second half of the season. As you can see in his [URL="http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/gamelog?playerId=5533"]stat sheet,[/URL] the amount of tackles dropped off considerably during the second half. Probably a product of the defense playing better overall but also possible is the fact that Hall played tighter.

Also a funny stat about Los. Guy has 48 Pass Deflections the last 3 years. 48! Can you imagine how amazing that guy would be if he could catch?

Finally someone has heard my screaming for a year now that Lorenzo Alexander was used in the wrong position. He will make an excellent ILB in the 3-4. Scary LB corp of Orakpo, Fletch, Alexander and Kerrigan. Beefy and stout wrecking crew. Many sacks.

As much as I love OMGang and as much as I feel its a better fit, I still don't see him beating out the likes of Riley or Henson.

IMO Lorenzo Alexanders combination of fearlessness, strength, speed and hitting ability makes him perfect for ILB position and IMO better then those two. Anyone that can play Guard, NT, DE and OLB and do it well, is an incredible football player in my book. I have always been so impressed with Lorenzo's fearless one man wrecking crew type of play. Riley and Henson are good and will compete for a starting position with Alexander, but they do not have the on the field NFL playing experience that Lorenzo brings to the table.

We will see who is starting in 2011.

The thing is he doesn't have the same range to move from sideline to sideline that you get from the more natural linebackers in Riley and Henson, and personally I believe that if Henson is healthy he wins that job hands down.

Lorenzo can play inside, on the strong side against the TE in coverage. But that was Fletcher's position, not McIntosh's. If Alexander plays ILB in 2011, Fletcher is going to need to have a different set of responsibilities (he'll still call the defense, obviously). And as good as Fletcher is, when he's in space against RBs or WRs ten or more years younger than him, I would imagine that those are battles the offense has to imagine it will win.

He won't be quite as poor as McIntosh was in the same role, but the Redskins don't have a true cover linebacker whose best days are in front of him.

Jackson looked good in the J'ville game. He's a guy that I could see having a 'breakout' year & by that I mean maybe he makes the team & gets pt as a reserve. I could see him beating out C. Wilson.

He's got a year on Kerrigan in the learning curve & he seems pretty athletic. If Kerrigan struggles in the transition to OLB that spot is gonna have some stiff competition.

Yes that is pretty suprising. He has only started 7 games in eight years.
