Re: 2011 Redskins Free Agent Rumors and Reports Thread
Thing is, the Tarvaris Jackson thing was cherry picked from another source. JLC "picked up on it" (read: stole it) from a local source, which is why the Tarvaris Jackson rumor carries more weight than other JLC Redskins rumors.
And there's far worse prospects to take a look at than T-Jack. If we were talking about Brodie Croyle signing here, then I'd be jumping off a cliff. |
Re: 2011 Redskins Free Agent Rumors and Reports Thread
Gotta a bad feeling McNabb goes somewhere and lights it up. And we're shuffling Tarvis Jackson, Beck and Grossman week to week in the starting lineup. If thats the case of McNabb has success somewhere and we struggle again...whats Danny Boy gonna do?

I'm not against TJ as a cheap option, but I don't believe the rumor is legit

Re: 2011 Redskins Free Agent Rumors and Reports Thread
I think barry cofield would be a great pickup for us. He has started every game but 1 as a giant, has missed 1 game in his 5 seasons, is 27 years old, has produced well, is able to give us info on the giants, plays NT, not DT, so the transition will not be as hard for him to move to a 3-4, and signing him would prevent the giants from signing him.
Cofield has played as a 4-3 DT his entire career. |
Cofield has played as a 4-3 DT his entire career.
I know, but the system he plays in he plays the nose in the 4-3. That's just how some 4-3 systems work. I know he has never played the nose in the 3-4, and I know that is different than playing the nose in the 4-3, but I'd assume playing nose in the 4-3 would help him transition at least a little to the 3-4. |

I'd be fine with that. |
Re: 2011 Redskins Free Agent Rumors and Reports Thread
Beck is my choice use the money to fill other holes and draft a qb next year. There is very few QBs that turn a franchise around coming off free agency. I mean thats why they had to move they weren't good enough.

Some choice! It's like Redskins fans being able to choose the method of our own executions. Either way we're doomed. |
Re: 2011 Redskins Free Agent Rumors and Reports Thread
I have a question: What about Joe Joe Joseph NT out of THE U (he was signed last season and quickly picked up a DUI). What if we rotate Joseph, Bryant & sign Kris Jenkins in rotation and Neild goes to PS.

In regards to Beck, I'd like to wait until the lockout is over and for free agency to start before completely buy in with the whole idea of him as a starter for this team. That being said, Shanahan is the offensive genius and if he is indeed sold on Beck then I guess we have to give him the benefit of the doubt. |

Beck reminds me more of the Jeff Garcia type guy, who was kind of old when he broke out as a star. Jeff was 29 or 30 i believe. Isn't Beck 30 or 31? I dont think his age is that big of a deal because its not like he has been getting hit. Beck i think can be good because he showed promise but got the raw deal in Miami. I dont know how much of a genius Shanahan is. He is a great coach, no doubt, but his image tarnished a little to me because i think if he would have had the balls to pull McNabb earlier in the season when it was clear he was shot, perhaps Rex could have had an 8-8 or 9-7 season, possibly even better. That being said, I dont really blame Shanahan because i guess he had to absolutley be sure that Donovan was not gonna work here, and i guess it took him a long time to realize that. |
Re: 2011 Redskins Free Agent Rumors and Reports Thread
I'd say he realized Donovan wasn't going to be the answer by the week of the Lions game, which was allegedly when the whole "he doesn't want to wear a wristband thing" happened. They signed him to that big contract to try and motivate him, but kept the out clause unless McNabb didn't perform better.
Mike's got a pretty good track record with quarterbacks. He's coached two Hall of Famers (Steve Young and John Elway) and has made playoff runs with less than spectacular guys. I trust him to identify talent in that case, |
Re: 2011 Redskins Free Agent Rumors and Reports Thread
The smartest thing the Redskins can do is trade McNabb and Haynesworth for Young and a 5th rounder at the opening of the league year.
Beck sounds great in storyland, but you should back him up with a winner. |

In a single play in that Lions game, we ALSO realized that Grossman is not the answer either. |
Re: 2011 Redskins Free Agent Rumors and Reports Thread
Rabach used to be just awful at seeing enough of the field to make any sort of proper call that could prevent an unblocked linebacker from forcing a quick throw or sack. He was almost unplayable based on his inability to grasp the mental part of the game.
I think he's improved that part of his game since 2008 to the point where the Redskins can usually get a body on every player that comes between the tackles (the extent of the Center's responsibility), but I don't think it's THAT difficult a skill. I mean, freakin' Will Montgomery did the job flawlessly in relief of Rabach last season. And he had to get the call out early enough for Heyer to figure out what the hell to do.
Agreed.. and honestly I don't think anyone would be beating down Heyer's door to get him on their team, but in duty at guard last year he showed some promise. Keep him around in the competition for guard mix and you can slide him to tackle if injuries insist upon it. He's the new Artis Hicks, but younger. |

What about Alan Branch to play DE/ NT rotation player? He has expierence at both positions, young and would be a cheap alternative.

Is he restricted? If not we should def go after him. Has played NT for Arizona for four years. Wouldn't be very expensive and could be our starting NT on day one. We would have a good d-line with Carriker, Branch and C. Jenkins. |

Any truth to this? "Smart shopper: Mike Shanahan insists he's good with John Beck at QB, but OC Kyle Shanahan covets Texans backup Matt Leinart, who could be available. Also, Saints DT Remi Ayodele is one of the most unheralded but effective tackles in the league and could step in nicely." I def. wouldn't trade for him, and I would only bring him in as a free agent if there was some proof that he actually cares about being a decent quarterback. All the indication I've seen up to this point is that he's never been committed to the game, and isn't committed to improving as a player. |

If he can't handle the media and the fans in Tenn how's he going to react to the pressure here? I wouldn't be shocked if he doesn't get picked up at all. |

If VY has a chance to learn and not play the first season it could be promising.

Too much talent there to not get picked up. He still has a lot of upside. |
Re: 2011 Redskins Free Agent Rumors and Reports Thread
Does anyone know if there's a freakin center that's unrestricted and can come in here and get Racbach on the bench? We need an anchor in the middle of the line. I'm confused as to why the front office didn't try and find a 320lb monster that has skills...instead of drafting MORE wr's in the later rounds.
