Re: Breakout Redskin for 2011-Defense
I'm going with Rakpo. Even though he has been playing great I think he missed out on 7 to 8 sacks last year because he allowed the O linemen to hold him. I think with more experience he can break loose and get more sacks.

Re: Breakout Redskin for 2011-Defense
I hope Barnes turns out to be the break out player. That would save us a ton of cap space to spend on our many other needs. But Barnes seems a little bit like a tweener. I hope I am wrong. Not elite fast to be a top cover CB to cover the top WR's, but also not big enough to be a top safety.
If he can take over Carlos Rogers position with out any drop off, would be huge. I hope so. I really think Barnes will continue to excel as the second FS in the Dime package. Allowing Dirty 30 to move up close to the line and scaring the shit out the Qb's. I know he has kind of already had a break out season, but I still think Lorenzo Alexander can be a animal at the ILB position. Where he should have been from the beginning. His size and strength at the point of attack will help our porous run defense. His year as a starter and his great football instinct will be a huge help. I know many want Henson to be the one to fill that position, Alexander blitzing from that position will be a sight to see. Can't wait. Who would you double team Orakpo, Kerrigan, Dirty 30 or Lorenzo Alexander? |
Re: Breakout Redskin for 2011-Defense
I went with Bryant.
I was really considering Barnes but honestly, I think he'd be a far better free safety than CB...he really impressed me when he played safety last season, but he's not starting at safety this year. He's a big hitter but I think opponents would try to take advantage of his height if he played CB. |

And what do you mean by the statement in bold? Barnes is 6'1, only his weakness is he's thin. |

I mean it will probably cost a second round pick. On the other hand the Redskins now know how to wheel and deal. On the other hand if they keep the second round pick it could easily be another head scratcher. |

A 2nd rounder? Rubin's no dominant Haynesworth when healthy, and the Browns already have a surplus at DT. I think we could give them Oakland's 4th and get him for that. |

Re: Breakout Redskin for 2011-Defense
Lorenzo continues to amaze me:
Redskins players eager to report to training camp Thursday (updated) - The Insider - The Washington Post
“The one benefit of the lockout was being able to train on my own and do what I needed to do to get better at my position,” said Alexander, who entered the league in 2005 as an lineman and last season converted to linebacker. “With the team, you’re trying to cater to 90 guys, but I was able to work with my trainer and three other guys on what I need. I’m probably as strong as I was when I was 300 pounds, and now I’m lean, 255, 260 pounds and much more explosive.”
Think Lorenzo will be able to move to ILB with success? I think he can, if he could keep up with some TEs and make some plays last season.. I am sure as hell he can do much better than he was last season. |
