So are most teams confident that rookies are not going to d1ck around with negotiating a lot and jump on board quickly?
Any speculation how soon Kerrigan/Jenkins and Hankerson will get signed?

I think UDFAs will probably be signed first and then rookies. Rookies should be signed rather quickly

And now they're saying all teams will start camp on Friday

And, I can't 100% confirm this yet, but the players have voted

UDFAs can be signed starting tomorrow right? or is it they can be negotiated with now, and signed tomorrow?

I thought the rookie pay scale took care of this?

It's all over SportsCenter right now. The signature of the settlement is going to take place soon. De Smith just made the announcement...

• Friday: Teams can begin filing transactions to the league office at 6 p.m. ET.

^I'm assuming "filing transactions" means trades and signing unrestricted FAs from other teams?

Nice job to all the players involved that got this deal done. Such a relief to be able to get back to football, and with 10 years of labor peace ahead life is good.

I second that.

Now, when does the warpath paid fantasy football league start? I assume those that took part last year have first choice on whether or not to play this year?

Wow, Jeff Saturday's words at the podium were moving. Talking about all the wives, Bob Kraft and his wife... Then hugging Mr. Kraft... That was a pretty awesome moment right there.

Nah, big events simply get a firework post. Last time I did it Vinny "resigned." I think the next time I'll do it is when the Redskins win the Super Bowl.

Technically moves can start happening tomorrow, but not official until Friday. So in theory we could all find out that Kolb has been traded to the Cardinals tomorrow but it wouldn't be official until Friday.

Agreed...A lot of heroes (if you will) helped get this deal through, headed by Robert Kraft....how instrumental he has been to labor peace over the years.

No surprise there. Teams have way too much to do over the next few weeks to worry about facilitating an HBO camera crew. Bummer though. Love that show.

we knew a couple days ago. No biggie, even tho its a good show. Plus HBO needs a lot of time to prep up for that show with camera men and were to and not to shoot, etc.

So can players change their mind between tomorrow and Friday? Or put another way is it only "deals in principle" that can be matched or exceeded by other teams?

I was thinking along these exact lines. If you can agree to a deal, but cannot finalize it until friday, how in the hell would teams announce the signing before friday?

Vet A. signs a deal with team A., team B waits until friday afternoon, contacts vet a's agent, and offers 2 million more in signing bonus plus half a mil a year more than team a's "deal". vet a jumps ship and signs with team b.

Basically goes along the line of, until the ink is dry type thing. The prevailing law in free agency, especially with the skins, is murphys law. If they cant finalize the deals until friday, then they cant sign the unrestricted players until friday.

SmootSmack 07-25-2011 03:45 PM

Re: Updated Title: Lockout Over-NFLPA Unanimously Votes to Approve Deal

Nothing would be announced before Friday officially. But it's like the NBA. When a draft day trade is made, it's not official until the league year begins in July. But it's basically understood among all parties.

Same with a free agent signing. Of course, a player can change their mind before they sign as is what happened with Carlos Boozer back in 2003 when the Cavs thought they had an understanding with Boozer he would sign with them and then he decided to go to Utah.

Now I don't believe players can be cut before Thursday afternoon. So if you're expecting Vince Young tomorrow...don't

All the rookie pay scale is is a cap set on how much you can pay your rookies. It doesn't create set salaries so you still have to negotiate with them. It's not like the NBA's system. But we def. won't see guys like Cam Newton get 5 year, 78 mil contracts with 50 mil guaranteed anymore.

Re: Updated Title: Lockout Over-NFLPA Unanimously Votes to Approve Deal

And now we get to talk Haynesworth and McNabb again? Sigh. The sooner Haynesworth is out of here, the better. As for McNabb, I have much less animosity towards him because he's been a class act, and I'd keep him around for a month if it meant getting a better deal. But I have no doubts we'll be hearing plenty of stories revolving around Haynesworth being at camp, or if Shanny decides to send him home so he can't risk further injury, or something else of that nature.
