Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
if we sign edwards, then kelly and austin could be cut tomorrow.........
I guess they might stay in camp for a bit tho, but ultimately, slice/whack! |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Some still think Edwards will land in WSH
|
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
ESPN 980 is saying that Banks may be on the bubble.
|
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Banks was an interim bauble, thats about it.
|
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Banks' kinda been in the doghouse all offseason
|
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
I feel like I'm the only one who remembers the electricity he brought to punt and kickoff returns back there last season. His kick return td in the Detroit game was awesome. It felt nice knowing we had someone who was leaps and bounds better than that fair catch artist Randle El. And he was also used in the Wildcat, although he was a runner only. I still think he brings value to the team.

Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
they can't let banks go!!! He's a playmaker
|
The concept of camp bodies seems to be lost on some. lol
12-13 WRs on a 90 man camp roster is not crazy. These guys will quickly get weeded out. The vets can also help mentor the rooks. And was anyone really content with these WRs last year? Adding a few rooks wasn't going to solve all of our problems especially with no offseason work. |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Oh and vet free agents can't even practice until 8/4

They do however know that McNabb should have at least traded for two 2nds and a 3rd! |

Is that from Madden? |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
What this means is that Kelly is gone, Banks and Austin most likely gone. Paul and Stokely on the bubble and the rest probables.

lol Saw a funny tweet that said along the lines of... this is like when people get pissed about a 7th round pick not filling a need. |

Hey, in Madden last year I was able to trade McNabb and Haynesworth to the Dolphins for a first and 2nd. We easily should've been able to do a first in real life. And Madden did a franchise overhaul this offseason, so now training camp will have 90 man rosters. |
I think it will be:
Moss Armstrong Austin Stallworth Gaffney Hankerson PS Robinson Gone Paul (he may come back later to the PS) Kelly Stokley Banks
Unless he totally sucks, I dont think theres anyway that Brandon Banks is not on this team next year. He has the potential to be the best return man we've had since Brian Mitchell. I dont think there is anyway he gets cut. I replace Stallworth on your list with Banks and agree... These are weird moves, but given the contracts I think 2/3 of them are gone before the season even starts... I think Gaffney is a decent pick up for a guy who would have probalby been cut anyways. |

Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
If a guy like Robinson proves to be as electrifying (or almost as electrfying) as Banks, plus runs routes he has as good a shot as Banks of making the team
|
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
As per SS Josh Wilson LoL.
|
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
And while he's not a WR, Josh Wilson does return kicks
|
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Yeah, I think banks may have a huge uphill climb to make the team. He pretty much has blazing speed and that's about it.
If your going to be a one trick pony, however, blazing speed is the best trick to have in the NFL. |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Yeah I can see Banks on the bubble if someone else shows up as a capable return man.
|
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Guarantee banks is cut maybe makes another team needing special team play
|
What this means is that Kelly is gone, Banks and Austin most likely gone. Paul and Stokely on the bubble and the rest probables.
Paul is a young rookie they could send to PS. Stokely is the question but looking back he played with Baltimore, Indy, then with the Bronco's for non other then MS. So him coming in might just be for familiarity to the system, but he's 35. He might prove to be better then some because he already knows the system which is kinda a plus when thinking about a shortened offseason. |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Yeah SB, you are right about Stokely, he is 35, but still has good hands. Probably won't make the cut. Woul love to see Paul make the squad but PS is the likely place for him. I don't see any of the Kelly, Banks, or Austin trio making it. If the coaching staff thought that highly of them they would have not drafted so may Wrs and now acquired a trio of vets.

Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Hey Matty,
What do you think the chances of Paul making the final roster? I really like the guys we drafted at WR this year. I hope he can make it. I like Banks, but I cringe at the thought of him getting nailed by a Eagles DB or OLB on kick returns still. |

I think we'd be crazy to cut Banks. He was a total game changer last year. If it weren't for some of the penalties, he was a dream to have as a kick returner/punt returner. Maybe I was drinking too much during the games, not sure, but I'm surprised people think he might get cut. |

Yeah I used to think that too, but he's a one trick pony, and if someone shows they can return and play WR, I could see him getting beat out. It's going to be a heck of a camp battle that's for sure. |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Rice's contract looks a lot like Cofields, and our QB situation looks a lot like Seattle's. That could have been a better use of the money we spent on BC.
Braylon Edwards still out there, after that it's Randy Moss, James Jones, and a whole lot of projection. |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Good point by Matt Bowen:
"Matt Bowen Understand that Shanahan wants to create competition for jobs in camp, but #Redskins bringing in older talent at WR isn't a solution."
Then why aren't they signing any offensive lineman? |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
banks stays
|
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
I think Austin will make it on the team. I'm not sure that we are done yet. Ochocinco has not been cut yet, Braylon is still out there.
|
Then why aren't they signing any offensive lineman?
Skill positions come off the board first in free agency, just like the draft. Free agency is just getting started. |

Ochocinco's going to Philly...kidding |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Reminds me of last years RB situation. Bring in a bunch of knowns/unknowns and let them compete in training camp. I like it.
And that worked out so well last year... |

Budd held the world record for the 100-yard dash at 9.3 seconds for a while. He also tried to play WR for the Eagles. He could outrun everyone; he could not catch a cold. He lasted in the NFL a VERY short time... |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Moss
Armstrong Hankerson Gaffney Banks Paul We keep 6. |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
1.Moss
2.Armstrong 3.Gaffney 4.Hankerson 5.Kelly ( Great hands and size, needs to stay healthy through camp)? 6.Banks ( KR/PR) PS Paul Austin Robinson |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
We can always take Randy Moss in the middle of the season after he gets booted off of whatever team he's on at the time.
I'm most excited about Hankerson too. |
