F*ck the preseason. If you're going to tear an ACL, wouldn't you rather it happen in the regular season?
Should have reduced the preseason by 2, expanded to 18 regular season games, and started training camp earlier with an offsetting reduction in spring OTAs.
If this happened week 1 or 2 it wouldn't be any different. At least it's early enough where he'll have enough time to properly rehab it. |
The one positive about Jenkins getting hurt, is that he will have lots of time to rehab, lift weights and get stronger next year. The knock on him was 19 reps at 225LBS, let's see what he can do next year.
Yeah but I think he showed that strength was not an issue for him, he might not have been weight room strong but he was game strong which is far more important. As far the weight room goes alot of it is technique anyway and he may never have been taught how to properly bench press. |
Re: Redskins DE Jarvis Jenkins Has Torn ACL
any other dlinemen out there worth a look other than daniels??? maybe a little younger
|
Re: Redskins DE Jarvis Jenkins Has Torn ACL
One word pretty much sums up how I feel about this: F**K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DE went from a position of strength to a weakness. Jenkins was looking like a beast. Makes the Bowen signing even more important. |
Re: Redskins DE Jarvis Jenkins Has Torn ACL
i know kentwan balmer was out there but the panthers just scooped him up the other day
|
Re: Redskins DE Jarvis Jenkins Has Torn ACL
I don't want daniels back here! youth! I want youth!

hes not good anyway, wouldve been a body I guess |
Re: Redskins DE Jarvis Jenkins Has Torn ACL
Just be glad it wasn't the offensive line. At least there is some quality depth and other options out there defensively.
I don't think it makes a difference whether this happened in the preseason or early in the regular season. Sucks either way, but eliminating the preseason and playing 18 regular season games only means that your starters are more vulnerable in those early games (more than they would be in preseason games) as they will be playing the whole game rather than a quarter, two quarters, etc. Tough loss - I'd be ok with Phillip Daniels coming in for depth. |
Re: Redskins DE Jarvis Jenkins Has Torn ACL
Coming from somebody that has torn multiple acls and even more ligaments, I feel like I've become pretty educated on this matter. I knew it was a torn acl the moment it happened. This had nothing to do with pre-season. How easily it happened shows us his knee was a ticking time bomb. He was going to tear it eventually, better sooner than later.
Yeah thats the thing that stood out to me the most. It seemed like his knee just went out on him for no reason. Not sure what you mean when you say better sooner then later, can a repaired acl ever be stronger then a non repaired one? |

Re: Redskins DE Jarvis Jenkins Has Torn ACL
Major bummer, but I bet he will be back better then ever next year... one year off of rehab and lifting should have this guy looking like a stud, and he already was making an impact with just a couple weeks of trainig, so my guess is he will be fine.

Re: Redskins DE Jarvis Jenkins Has Torn ACL
I wonder if this also means Alexander may line up sometimes at DE, perhaps even Orakpo
Daniels makes the most sense at this point though |

Quick, let's find a 300-lbs. 15-year old and suit him up! LOL. |

Hines Ward is missing the acl in his left knee. I think with Bair and Ward they say that since the injuries happened while they were still growing that other muscles and ligaments adapted to make up for the loss of the acl. Still crazy to think a nba big man can be running around without both of his acl's. Obviously at any age your body is gonna adapt but the younger the better. |

I meant that it was going to happen this season. Better that he has more time to recover for next year. And simply put, no it can't be stronger than the repaired one (not like tommy john surgery). You can rehab it to a stance in where it was like you never had surgery, but even that is not 100%. Some bodies just don't respond very well to new acls (you can still play, but you just won't be able to do everything you could before your acl surgery), some bodies take it in like its the original. Alot of it has to do with the rehab also. Time will tell us how Jenkins responds. |

I dont think he was trying to use anything for player evaluation. |

My buddy who I played football with in high school tore his ACL and had a piece of his hamstring used to repair it. The doctor told him eventually it should be stronger than it was before........ well he tore that ACL AGAIN 2-3 years later when we were playing flag football. I guess you can't know for sure until you're fully recovered. Or I'm just bad luck, I was there for both tears ... |

Stay away from JJ. Yeah ive had a bad break to some bones that needed 2 surgeries. One doctor told me i will be stronger when healed because of the plates and screws and the other doctor told me im forever compromised. I feel unless you have a doctor thats just straight up with you they will tell you things you want to hear. |

Re: Redskins DE Jarvis Jenkins Has Torn ACL
Ironically, we shyed away from bowers because of our worries on his knees. Shame to lose him, but next year will be when we start to need him.
|
Re: Redskins DE Jarvis Jenkins Has Torn ACL
damn jj...figured that's what it was. rest up and come back strong and ANGRY!
|
Re: Redskins DE Jarvis Jenkins Has Torn ACL
honestly I think that for that two down lineman package we have which would feature Bowen and Jenkins, we should have it be Cofield and Bowen, I really think Cofield can stay on the field an extra play, and generate double teams and a pass rush.
|
Re: Redskins DE Jarvis Jenkins Has Torn ACL
Man.. This is a big blow. I actually had Jenkins beating out Carriker by the end of the year. I guess we will need to bring in Daniels. I know the guy is up there in age, but he's still healthy and bench presses a truck
|
Re: Redskins DE Jarvis Jenkins Has Torn ACL
He's only 23 years old. He'll be fine. But in the short term, this sucks. He looked like a real beast who was ready to contribute right from the jump. Oh well. I think it's my fault. I said to my wife yesterday how fortunate we've been so far on the injury front. And now this. Sorry guys.

I don't know, I'm not a 3 million a year NFL coach. They need to figure it out. |

if only vinny were here, we could trade a 2nd rounder to new england to get haynesworth back.

Nobody on here is, but everybody has an opinion anyway. I was just curious what yours was with regard to player evaluation if it shouldn't be done with preseason games. I'm all for thinking outside the box, but I don't see how you can test, evaluate and prepare players for NFL games without having them go head to head full speed against opposing players. It's like we say in the Army, train as you fight. |
Re: Redskins DE Jarvis Jenkins Has Torn ACL
well, daniels should have 1 more good year, so i'm up on that move if they make it.

The earlier, the better. Didn't Jarmon and Rogers tear their ACLs? |

Yeah they did. It's like Matty said, at least it happened early enough that we know he'll be back in time for training camp next year. |
Re: Redskins DE Jarvis Jenkins Has Torn ACL
DAMN I hate to see this! Good luck JJ. I know you'll work hard and be a BEAST next year!
|
Re: Redskins DE Jarvis Jenkins Has Torn ACL
It really really sucks, but it's not the end of the world and I don't think Jarvis' injury will have major implications on a potential playoff run, which I'm cautiously optimistic about. Still, it sucks.
|
Re: Redskins DE Jarvis Jenkins Has Torn ACL
Yeah dammit this sucks. The upgrades along the line might be the biggest difference on defense from last year. Hopefully another 3-4 team cuts a good de. I'm tired of having def ends that are just "serviceable". I liked Jenkins because he seemed to have the opposite attitude of haynesworth.
|
Re: Redskins DE Jarvis Jenkins Has Torn ACL
I seriously felt gutted when I read the news this morning. Especially because Shanahan caught a little bit of crap for taking him "so high."

Phillip Daniels report for duty
Phillip Daniels report for duty
Please and thank you, no. He barely held up his end in a 4-3, it's time to let go. We have Bowen or whoever who can fill in for now so let's go out and either bring in another young body or look for any cuts that should be coming up. |
Re: Redskins DE Jarvis Jenkins Has Torn ACL
They can't find anyone from the CFL who can do that same job?
