It is Awesome having the quality and depth in the backs we have available. It apparently creates a healthy competition between them as well. REALLY great to ATV looking like that today......

I agree. White people can run from cops to. I'm offended by the idea that my kind couldn't run away from the cops. Don't you guys see all those cop chase shows? Driver is usually caucasion.

All I know is Hightower is going downhill statwise for 3 weeks in a row. I have him as my flex option and backup RB, but he might find himself on the bench ASAP. I have Sproles and Kendrick Smith as my young studs. I might try to use Hightower as trade bait.

I am beside myself with joy! Talk about using the right tool for the job! I just love how we tailored the running backs to the immediate need. You need a stretch runner? There's an app for that - Hightower. Gaps aren't opening up and you need a hard north/south runner? There's an app for that - Torain. Need a cutback magician? - Helu.

Re: The Running Game

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said in his post-game press conference Sunday that Tim Hightower's Week 4 role was reduced because he "looked banged up" in practices this past week.
Hightower wasn't even on the injury report, of course. The Redskins instead decided to go with the hot hand at St. Louis, and Ryan Torain had it en route to 19 carries, 135 yards, and a touchdown. Hightower probably isn't going to go away, but his role as Washington's lead back has appeared tenuous since Shanahan admitted to nearly benching him last Monday night. We'll have more updates on the Skins' backfield throughout the week ahead.

Why risk further injury when you have Torain and Helu and a bye week coming up?

They way the games go, everyone is bound to be a little nicked up unless you are a kicker or punter. It's very possible Hightower got hit somewhere and it's "hidable" from the injury report.

That said, Mike Shanahan is a terrible "liar" or excuse-maker when talking to the press. Luckily, Hightower isn't as "big" as McNabb and thus no one really cares.

Re: The Running Game

Sounds like Hightower is expendable on my fantasy team then. I have him as a flex guy, so I can pick up a young stud WR.

Re: The Running Game

Sorry, being banged up doesn't mean squat if you lose carries to a younger more physical RB. I couldn't watch the game since I am in Detroit(Lions were on). UNless you guys saw TH get really nailed and hobbled off the field, he was just benched. He was good fantasy wise just because he has been, til today, good for one TD.

TH came into this game banged up. Torain practiced well this week and was the hot hand today.

Gotta mix it up still though, otherwise defenses know what's coming at them with whoever is in the backfield.

Re: The Running Game

I really dont care if it TH, Helu or Torain. If someone is hurt, then someone steps up and takes the ball. If someone is hot, stick with the hot hand. All 3 guys seem to be really good fits with this style of offense, so lets just keep running the ball.

Not so sure man. I like TH, but his yards per carry does suck rocks. He is usually good for one TD, but I am not sure. I guess we will see in week 6 who the starter is.

MTK 10-02-2011 10:21 PM

Re: The Running Game

I guess his shoulder brace or whatever he was wearing was just for show.

Look, TH is clearly not playing well and Torain came in and played great. I won't be surprised if Torain is the starter against Philly, but TH is dinged up. He's had a lot of work so far.

I think I probably should've made it more clear, that was sarcasm. Hightower, for whatever reason, whether it be injuries, hasn't had very many big moments so far this season, except for his effective first half against AZ. But I do think he's injured, because I saw him wearing what looked like a shoulder harness on the field today and I don't think players normally wear those when they're not injured.

Either way idc if he's injured or not, because it's obvious we have a very nice triplet scenario at the moment. If he can't pound the rock, we have 2 other guys that can.

Good point. Shanny should have just said TH was having a tough day at the office and put Ryan in for a different look or give TH a break. Nobody in here has mentioned anything about him getting really bange up in the g ame, unless it is heldover from the Boys debacle.

Why didn't you mention that before? I didn't see the game as the Lions were on. That is the first time anyone has mentioned that he was wearing a shoulder brace. So he did get banged up. He will probably be benched for week 6.

Is the team withholding details about injuries? Isn't that against the rules? For the last couple of weeks, it's been, "Hightower was tired", now this? An undisclosed injury. Makes sense.
Hightower's not healthy. What exactly is up I don't know. But I know something is up
I think so too. Some nice idiot hit a power line in my area so power was out till 4pm, but listening to the radio for most of the 1st half I was supprised with how many times Hightower missed the cut back hole though. It sounded like on 4 run plays he missed the cut back lane and tried to force it outside which only got him a yrd or two when had he cut back there were big holes. Then Torain came in and was hitting the cut back lanes for big yrds.

Nothing against Hightower but it seemed Torain was trying to show the coaching staff they made a mistake having him sit for so long. It always seemed to take more then 1 or 2 people to bring him down today and on his TD run he looked like Superman flying into the endzone. Then there was a run where he dragged/carried a LB 6 yrds before being brought down.

I think people were forgetting Torain wasn't healthy the first 2 games of the season because of his broken hand. He could've played last week but didn't.

Thats the part that scares me more then anything. Torain has a terrible track record health wise. And with Hightower already hurt I'm a little worried about the possibility of only having Helu, Royster, and Young as the only three backs available. Granted thats not a bad deal but the three headed monster is a luxury that I don't want to give up.

Yeah that's true. But the season is young, we have our bye next week which should help Hightower get healthier and as long as we don't run Torain into the ground I think we'll be fine. Even if Torain is lighting it up I expect them to put in Helu occasionally as a change of pace. Love what Torain brings to the table as a banger but a banger and a speedster work well in tandem.

SBXVII 10-03-2011 12:28 AM

Re: The Running Game

Torain's hand couldn't have been too hurt cause he was used in the last preseason game and seemed to be ok.
