Re: The Redskins are headed South Fast....To Carolina that is.
If we hold a team to 20 PTs the D has done its part.
My point is that if you let an opponent score early at home, it is not a good formula to winning games. Besides, QB-play aside, our offense has not shown that it has the firepower to overcome a point deficit. Beck may limit the INTs, but he still won't account for the sh*tty running game (which may not improve with two down linemen) and receivers not being able to make catches. |

I sure hope so, Firstdown. I just see us not being able to move, possess, or score the football, (again). In that scenario, Newton goes nuts on us and racks up huge yardage, and hands us our ass... |
Re: The Redskins are headed South Fast....To Carolina that is.
W/out looking up stats & specifics, is it me or for the last 10 years or so have we been beat consistently by rookie qb's or journeymen that suddenly have a big day?
That said, Cam isn't sneaking up on anybody. He's been putting up big #s & getting attention for it. I'm sure Haslett is concerned & will have the D ready. Hope Cam can't beat the 0 blitz! |

Re: The Redskins are headed South Fast....To Carolina that is.
On the other hand, Redskins are 8-1 against the Panthers (I think)

Re: The Redskins are headed South Fast....To Carolina that is.
I live in Charlotte, and have to say Cam has been a lighting rod of excitement for Panthers football. Totally different vibe about this team than in the past. saying that, I CANT STAND THEM!
Bottom line, if Cam is able to get some confidence and hit Smith on some deep balls we will be in trouble. He gets hot and he just turns into a different guy. making throws all over the field, running around, and then the offense in general gets hot. They have two VERY capable running backs and we couldn't stop one capable running back last week. Two decent TE in shockey and Olson which Carolina has finally figured out they need to use them. I hope no one is overlooking these guys. They have been competative with everyone they have played this year. Scores may not indicate it, but they have played hard and passionate football this season (missing key starters) just given up points late in games that deflated them.
Neither stewart or williams compare to McCoy. Hell, add them up and they dont compare. Leshawn (SP?) is one of the most dynamic and dangerous players in the game. Now having said that our D needs to have a very good game as if Cam gets going it is going to be a tough day for our LBs and DBs as he has arm strength and speed. |
0-6 in recent years against rookie QBs I believe
dang, if that's right then we've got to be worst in the league. |
Re: The Redskins are headed South Fast....To Carolina that is.
I understand Cam is a lot better than I expected him to be out of the gate, but we have film on him, he has to be coming back to reality, and I expect our D to guide him to it. The question remains can the offense do something when they have the ball against an underwhelming defense. I believe we can.

Re: The Redskins are headed South Fast....To Carolina that is.
OLD Redskins: Go down to Carolina and a Rookie QB has the game of his life and makes a mockery of the skins with highlights played all year long on sportscenter.
NEW Redskins: Go down to Carolina and beat a team you shpuld beat fairly easily with few mistakes. Im 5-0 this year on gut feelings, Skins should rebound but i cant get a good feel on this one. |

Before the Panthers sported Cam Newton at the helm. He creates a whole new dynamic that NFL defenses are not used to or prepared for. Like with Michael Vick. Except a better passer. Even vs. a young Vick. |

Re: The Redskins are headed South Fast....To Carolina that is.
Smoot was right, 0-6 since 05 v. rookie QBs:
Redskins vs. rookie QBs -- no contest That has got to be karma for drafting so poorly & not having a franchise qb! Time to turn it around |
Re: The Redskins are headed South Fast....To Carolina that is.
hope we lay better against this weeks running qb... maybe Beck wakes the offense up.
|
Re: The Redskins are headed South Fast....To Carolina that is.
D Williams may not be as good as McCoy but he's still a good rb
|
0-6 in recent years against rookie QBs I believe
Random stat that doesnt really mean much IMO. Its more of a sign we've been a bad team for some time now. |
Re: The Redskins are headed South Fast....To Carolina that is.
^ Bingo.. Bad teams lose to everyone not just rookies and we've. Been bad for a while now

Agreed on the latter part of your statement, but it's not really a random stat. If nothing else, it shows that you can't take a rookie qb lightly. I'm sure Shanny & Haslett will be using this as motivation. |
Re: The Redskins are headed South Fast....To Carolina that is.
im looking forward to getting my first good look at cam. i hope we give him the rude welcome to the NFL it seems he hasnt gotten yet.

Re: The Redskins are headed South Fast....To Carolina that is.
Freddy, so you think the Skins have systemically been "relaxing" the weeks they face rookie quarterbacks? Or that when we play rookies the football gods tilt the game in the favor of the rookies? No. We have lost a ton of games and nothing "special" occurs when we play rookies.
A correlation does not mean causation. The sample is way too low and even if it were high doesn't mean much. Ex. people with more literature in their houses tend to have more successful children. Does that mean if you buy a ton of books and leave them in your house your child will be better off? No. Educated folks tend to push their children harder, have access to better opportunities for their kids, etc. therefore their children tend to succeed too. Their kids may love to read, but just reading or access to books isn't what determines success (citation:Freakanomics). Same applies here. A more telling stat is that since our last Superbowl appearance Skins have been 131-172-1. That is a win percentage a bit over 43% out of 304 games. We aren't even a coin-flip team and this organization has had systemic issues the last 2 decades. Over the long run, with a .57 losing percentage losing 6 games isn't anything. There are so many other variables in each of those games that are not isolated to make any conclusions about an opponents years of experience impacting the win/loss. It's just another pointless "stat" that doesn't show anything. |
Re: The Redskins are headed South Fast....To Carolina that is.
So Byron Westbrook is out for Sunday. Atogwe and Buchanan questionable, which the former not very likely to play. And no plans it seems at this time to activate Kareem Moore yet.
So...DeJon Gomes better have the game of his life |

Re: The Redskins are headed South Fast....To Carolina that is.
My heart says the Skins win 28-17, my mind say Skins lose 31-17.
Panthers have put up an average no less then 21 points a game. The Skins will have trouble matching points for points. |
Re: The Redskins are headed South Fast....To Carolina that is.
See, I'm calling Beck's Blowout Sunday. That's right, as the days have passed (last prediction was 24-17), I am feeling more and more like calling a blowout - our D is going to lockdown them Panthers, holding them to 3 points, and our O is stepping up, 34 points. Skins Fans won't know what hit'em, and Panthers fans will be leaving that stadium discouraged, feeling like little kitty cat fans, not big old mountain lion fans.
34-3, Let Becks Blowout Brigade begin battling! :food-smil |

Re: The Redskins are headed South Fast....To Carolina that is.
I'm predicting a kind of blow out also.... a flat tire. I really don't see much changing. I hope to you know what I'm wrong but I just don't see much changing.

Re: The Redskins are headed South Fast....To Carolina that is.
ya know what .. i'm flip flopped all week as well .. but I think back to that nice pass to Terrance Austin and the QB draw... Yes Cam is going to be a handful .. but I think we bring some serious heat to this dude like he has not seen ... he's great don't get me wrong but so are our front 7 .. and as long as D-Hall, Landry have solid games we will be good to go ... I smell a solid game, Beck will have team rally behind him because if for no other reason they still all believe they have a chance to win this division ... You don't think the DEFENSE looked at each other like WTF after every Sexy Rexy's turnover .. they did some serious eye rollin, and still kept us in the game...
Skins 35 Panters 24 We give up some points late but control the game and all 3 running backs are featured heavily and Freddy Mack makes more big plays ... also, finally amongst due criticism BANKS actually runs one back .. quiets the haters .. (i'm starting to hate) |
Re: The Redskins are headed South Fast....To Carolina that is.
This sounds bad but given our recent history vs bad teams I'm not going to get over worked if we lose this game, in fact I agree w SBXVII I just can't imagine this team changing so fast.. 8-8 is what I predicted and we are 3-2.. So on pace for that honestly

Super Bowl vs Buffalo |
Re: The Redskins are headed South Fast....To Carolina that is.
We'll blow it some how or another. This team has no idea how to finish a game and hasn't since God knows when. If we blow this one, we'll be lucky to finish 5-11 as the second half of our schedule is pretty brutal.

NO WAY we lose this week. We run on them at will which will open up the PA Pass..
Beck will have a solid game Fred Davis will go over 100 yards and a TD |
Also, their starting RT went onto IR today. I know we rarely capitalize on injuries and rookie qb's, but Sunday we will.
Living in Charlotte I know a little bit to much about the Pampers listening to sports talk radio. The starting RT you are referring to has missed 18 of the last 20 games, so they have been without him for a while. He has only played 2 quarters this season in their 3rd game. |
Re: The Redskins are headed South Fast....To Carolina that is.
Yeah, their RT hasn't played a lot anyhow so I don't think it's going to change much.
Its a shock to hear that anti-depressant use is on the rise.
No depression here, it is what it is. We have improved over last year, at least defensively but the offense just isn't good. If we are able to pound out the run and dominate time of possession, then we have a good chance, but we have to protect the football and score tds in the redzone. Converting 3rd downs would be nice too. |
Re: The Redskins are headed South Fast....To Carolina that is.
I'm just going to say the Skins will win this game handily. It's time for them to be on the right side of a laugher. Big all around performance is what I'm expecting this week, despite the injuries.

Re: The Redskins are headed South Fast....To Carolina that is.
Redskins CB DeAngelo Hall vs. Panthers WR Steve Smith
Hall and defensive coordinator Jim Haslett call Smith one of the best in the game, and one of the toughest competitors in the league. Smith may be 32, but he hasn’t lost a step. He ranks second in the league in receiving yardage (675) and yards per catch (21.1). Hall knows that he must be at his best to shut down Smith. With Carolina unstable at the quarterback position, Smith’s production had dropped off the last two years, but he is well on his way to posting his sixth career thousand-yard season now that Cam Newton is at the helm. - Washington Post. Hall will win this battle. - 44EVER |
