The only way the NFL would accept that if there was a medical condition that pot was absolutely the only treatment available. There are plenty of legal substances that are banned by the NFL. Which does bring one to wonder if they kept taking an OTC supplement that caused them to be banned. Of course if it was pot then I can't help but laugh at this situation. This is their THIRD ****ing offense. The public never knows about the other two offenses because it's kept quiet and goes under the radar. Not ONE, Not TWO, but THREE ****ing times they've tested positive. I wouldn't be giving Davis any huge amount of guaranteed money this upcoming contract. |
Re: Report: Fred Davis, Trent Williams suspended four games
Davis and his punk agent Rosenhaus better show a little humility and remorse in upcoming negotiations. This gives the Skins FO the upper hand - Davis cost himself significant money. One more offense for either Davis or Williams will be a year suspension. Shanahan likes to talk about the character in his locker room. What does he have to say now?
And one more thing, Williams should give up the Captain's "C" on his jersey. He's no longer worthy. |

Rather than label myself a hypocrite in the future, I'll say:
The only thing they did wrong was that they get caught. So long as they beast on the field and don't get caught again(either by stopping the use of the drug or being more careful), I don't care. I cheer for them to win games, not be saints. |
Geez. By the way some of you all are acting, you'd think they got caught smoking crack.
I'm not saying what they did was right or that they deserve a slap on the wrist, they broke policy, they deserve punishment. But to demasculate (is that a word?) them and say they're stupid and immature seems a bit harsh. I'd much rather have them failing a drug test than out raping women or hitting the pipe. People make bad decisions and these 2 are obviously in need of a mentor of some sort within the organization to get their heads into being a professional player in the NFL and stop making poor off the field choices. 1. Stupid, stupid, stupid. "When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways." 1Corinthians, 13:11. Time to grow up guys.
2. NFL - Chill out. After stomping on a guy's head, a two game suspension for a guy who has multiple in game unsportsmanlike behaviour. Twice that for a little recreational drug use, some of which clearly occurred when the players were locked out? C'mon man! I get it. Rules are rules - if the players didn't like'em, should have negotiated to change them. On one hand, the owners are paying these guys top dollar and want to make sure there "employees" are able to perform at their peak. On the other hand, it's not like these guys are driving buses, trains or planes or are otherwise responsible for public safety - if their illegal activities either get them arrested or affect their on field performance, fine cut them and void their SB, etc. Guys in their 20's do dumb things (particularly if they are rich and priviledged). Don't matter how strict or how loose the rules are - they will find a way to break them. If they get caught, however, they get the consequences. It's part of growing up. As I said at first - Stupid, Stupid, Stupid. |
Re: Report: Fred Davis, Trent Williams suspended four games
Poor judgement on their part. And they have to know that these tests aren't exactly random. I mean they are, but they aren't. Both Williams and Davis had "questionable" reputations (not saying drug related) coming into the league. Those guys are always more heavily scrutinized, tested, etc.
|
We are not debating the validity of the rule or the fairness of the punishment. The point is both players are stupid.the rules are clear, this isnt the first time and next time they get caught its a year suspension.
They are young, stupid and didn't think this was going to happen (despite it being clear as day in the rules) . Dumb for Davis too considering its a contract year. At some pt both players need to realize hitting a blunt isn't worth the loss of millions of dollars. TW will lose 2m I think and davis just decreased his value during a contract year. Sure he's a beast but all teams are gonna put crazy clauses requiring him to pay salary back if he gets caught again. In the end its just stupid.... Sports Junkies made a good pt this morning. If you had random alcohol tests for your job, would you stop drinking. I would. Too much is on the line to continue a habit. |

1) Suh didn't stomp on the guy's head. 2) This was their THIRD offense. They had 2 other chances that went unpunished so this isn't like a first time offense deal. |

We have two other players who are quite close as well. One strike away from their 3rd I believe. I don't know which players, but I have some suspicions. I don't feel these are guys we'd really miss though

That IMO is one of the problems with this, on a team with very little talent these are 2 of the talented players that the Skins cant afford to have sit out as a result of stupidity. |
Re: Report: Fred Davis, Trent Williams suspended four games
Hope this doesn't become bigger than it already is. By that I mean Shanny has his work cut out for him to keep this team on track. If the O sucks as bad as it did a month ago, a very likely possibility w/these suspensions, he could easily lose the locker room.

Somone mentioned ealier (mooby?) that for the 3rd offense it is a years suspension, but that TW and Davis only got 4 games because the third offense came in connetion with the lockout. What seems a little odd to me is that you get 2 slaps on the wrist and then a whole years suspension, with nothing inbetween. Anyone know how true this is; first 2 times nothing happens, 3rd time youre suspended for a year? |
Re: Report: Fred Davis, Trent Williams suspended four games
Also i think the team has to really be prepared for the increased likelihood of being without David or TW for a whole year now.
Jamal Brown is now much less expendable Chris Cooley's value to the team is much higher Reaching for a QB in the first round when say Matt Kalil is there may be harder OL has become an even bigger priority And with the timing of this whole thing Im pretty surprised we didnt put a claim in for Jared Gaither. Considering everything, why not? |

Yeah really disturbing for sure. These guys are two of our most talented players, and only in their 3nd and 2nd years in the league respectively. They should be centerpieces of our offense for years to come... and they repeatedly fail drug tests? Man oh man. Don't smoke weed guys. That's all. Pretty freaking simple. |

Re: Report: Fred Davis, Trent Williams suspended four games
Suh got mad in a game and did a bad thing.
FD and TW ignored Federal and State Law as well as the NFL Substance Abuse Policy for a short period of "recreation" not worrying about the repercussions, to themselves their families, or their team. For a third time in their short careers. Don't see the comparison there really. I don't care who you want to compare them to I'd cut them if I was emperor for a day. |

1. Before we get on to the reality check that Sunday provided, have to talk about Trent Williams and Fred Davis. If the reports are true about their suspension – nothing is official yet but the team expects to hear something soon (Monday perhaps, but not definitely) – I’m not sure anyone should be surprised. Before the 2008 draft, I talked to one draft expert/scout and asked him for three guys he would stay away from in the draft. Davis was one of them. He just didn’t trust him or the direction he would go in his career, based on off-field concerns. After some early issues in his career, Davis was mostly clean. He had improved as a player this year and was becoming a playmaking tight end. And now this. In a contract year no less! (Notice the rare use of an exclamation point). How do you make that sort of mistake? How can a team trust a guy who failed a drug test at least three times (again, according to reports)? Good lord. 2. Meanwhile, we all know what Williams’ reputation was at Oklahoma when it came to his work ethic. It was subpar. They wondered if he was willing to put in the effort to be great. In fairness, he reported to camp in terrific shape. Now, I’m quite sure there are players in this league who have smoked marijuana who have been good players. There are players who drink and are stars, too. They just know when to do it and when not to. If it’s habitual, that’s an issue. And I’m sure others are doing it now. But this also speaks about Williams’ maturation and decision-making. You want to be great? Then get serious. And if you’ve already tested positive, wake up. If you’re in the NFL’s substance abuse policy program and still testing positive? There are bigger issues. On Friday, Williams was talking about being a leader and now this. That’s not leadership. Remember, this is the first guy this current regime drafted. Talented as heck, no doubt. He's played well the past three games. But talent alone only takes you so far. If you want to go far, that is. He's a team captain, too. Not sure how that happened. |

What doesnt make sense is that they failed their second drug test sometime before the lockout last year (during TW's frist year) and were not suspended. Then they failed their 3rd drug test after the lockout and 4 week grace/detox period and got a 4 game suspension. Fred Davis, Trent Williams of Redskins suspended for failed drug tests - Jim Trotter - SI.com Whats really really sad is that they both had somehow already got really really lucky in not having one drug test count against them and then they failed again. When they were smoking weed prior to failing the 3rd time they were doing so while knowing that if caught, at a bare minimum they would be suspended for 4 games and potentially up to a complete year. They also were smoking weed while a suspension for their second failed drug test was hanging over their heads. And when they were smoking weed prior to the second failed drug test they were doing so with the forehand knowledge that if caught they would be suspended for 4 games (which somehow they ended up getting out of).
