I don't know how on the one hand they complain about the game becoming "soft", yet they turn into whiny b*tches when the NFL slaps them with a fine. If the NFL is becoming so tough on these penalties/fines, how come we don't hear about players like D. Ware, Fletcher, Ray Lewis, Patrick Willis, and B. Urlacher get repeatedly penalized and fined for illegal hits? Maybe these guys should quit their b*tching and work on perfecting their technique so they don't continue to get fined by the league. |

Why risk it? Well, many elite athletes have been enabled as anti-social people from the time they demonstrated elite athletic skills. For them, there is always someone around to pick up the pieces of the messes they make and to get them out of the messes they find themselves in. For many - - not all but many - - athletes who have the ability to make it in the NFL:
There is no risk. Somebody will "take care of it for me".
|

Rumor is lots of other NFL players are involved here
Here is a paragraph from that link:
"Hurd, a former star player with Northern Illinois University, allegedly told the agent he already distributes four kilograms of cocaine a week in the Chicago area, but wanted to up that to five to 10 kilos and 1,000 pounds of marijuana — per week."
That is 26 tons of marijuana per year he is allegedly distributing. At 4 Kilos a week, that is just a tad over 450 lbs of cocaine a year he is allegedly distributing. That is not a junior varsity operation... |

Who knew a drug kingpin was playing in the NFL.. Honestly idc if any Redskins are involved, but if they are throw the book at them too. That's just dumb shit, being so f'n greedy that you're not content making assloads of money in the NFL.

You know, instead of pissing it away, he had the business acumen to at least invest something that would net him more than the initial investment. Only problem is that he didn't do a good job of covering his tracks. #evenbadpeoplehavebrains #hailcapitalisticenterprise #onlyhalfsarcasm |

Yeah, I read those prices he negotiated. Dude could have turned that around for serious profit. I guess that's why these guys get caught up in it- they make enough from the league to buy wholesale... in turn making 10 times the initial investment. Unlike stocks, the drug trade isn't volatile (value-wise)... but also unlike stocks, you're dealing with those pesky FBI agents and turf wars. |

Jay Ratliff went off on reporter Calvin Watkin(who i love cause he shows the Cowboys no mercy) in the lockeroom yesterday they had to be physicaly seperated when Watkins asked Ratliff about his relationship with Sam Hurd. I think its safe to say there's a few puckered up at Valley Ranch.

Re: Around the NFL Week 15
Jim Rome said rumor is Sam Hurd had an NFL players client list in the double digits. You might have a problem if you bought a dime bag from Hurd and then he put your name down on a list. Rome said it might be time to "lawyer up". this could be bad

NFL will do what they can to keep that list quiet. Not sure why the police would need to publicize it and they are not going to arrest people because there name is on a list (At least I do not think they will). However, some outfit will pay Hurd BIG money for his client list. He won't need the money in jail, but I am sure he wants to set up his family while he is away. |

He only fell because Mike Nolan was afraid of him.
And your excuse for the other 22 teams that bypassed him? If you don't count on "falls", than don't count on top 5 talent panning out either. That works both ways. |
Re: Around the NFL Week 15
This could be like Cansenco only worse. If anyone on our team is on that list I can see them getting cut.

To think that players aren't using recreational drugs is a bit naive to say the least. They most likely don't care unless they get caught. When you have money, and you enjoy the night life (clubs, hot women) than chances are high that drugs will be around you in some sort of form/fashion. |

Yup... we were discussing this in the TW/FD thread last week. I made a point that many players would do harder drugs over marijuana... because the former leaves the body in a day or two (and is harder to catch on the league's drug tests). The Hurd list is just the tip of the ice berg. |

If you don't count on "falls", than don't count on top 5 talent panning out either. That works both ways.
Methinks you need to brush up on what a game of chance is about. Top 5 talent is about as reliable as a coin flip. Bottom 15 of the first round talent is about as reliable as a die. Betting on coin flip>betting on die. |
Re: Around the NFL Week 15
Although neither of those probabilies is close to accurate.

Re: Around the NFL Week 15
If you define a bust as a player who starts (is his team's primary starter) for three or fewer seasons, then from 2002-2007 only thirteen players busted in the top ten, about two per year. And teams are doing a far better job rating talent at the top of the draft now vs. ten years ago.
It's significantly lower in the rest of the round, but a lot better than a coin flip until about the third round, when it's pretty much a coin flip whether you get a roster piece or a bust. After that, good orgs typically do better on Day 3 than poor ones, but no one is consistently pulling 50% after that. |
