I think we need to go after Bowe I've been saying it since last year, people say he's a bit of a punk but he makes plays and produces w any QB. I think Moss is still a solid 2 or 3, AA won't make it IMO and Gaffney is a 2 at best so we need a true 1.. Is Hank the guy? Who knows but having a bad injury your rookie year doesn't look good
Bowe is exactly the kind of guy I wouldn't trust after giving a big payday. His work ethic leaves a lot to be desired. |
Re: Make a Decison on the Future of...
I agree with everything you say here except for Monty. Carriker has definitely been more than solid, and is definitely not a weak link. With Jenkins back, his pt will be reduced, but since when is having quality depth a bad thing? Carriker definitely comes back next year, upgrade or not. Who cares who gets the start as long as all our defensive linemen stay fresh?
As for Hightower, again I agree. I love his attitude, but the on field results haven't been that impressive. I bring him back on a one year deal as a backup to Helu, and I'd let him battle with Royster for the backup job. Rocky - yeah, gone. Golston - Sad to say but he's just a body at this point. We might as well trade him in for a body that's better suited to play his position. Montgomery - upgrade or not, bring him back. He's not a top notch center by any means, but we could definitely do worse. Even if we upgrade I'd still like him for depth. Sellers - save us the trouble and just retire. Polumbus - bring him back for depth. Willie Smith - bring him back for depth too, and possibly let him battle for the RT spot. Stallworth - bring him back only if Redskins do not seek an upgrade.
Agree with you . I would like to see Landry back , as long as he is healthy and dedicated to the game . London , I would hate to see him leave , even with Riley looking very solid . |
Re: Make a Decison on the Future of...
I think the Redskins front office is well aware of the value of London Fletcher. Fletcher will retire a Redskin and he will probably get top dollar. The guy is too valuable. A team would hurry to sign London Fletcher to a hefty salary to come to their team, regardless of his age because he's such a strong contributor to a defense. Bruce Allen knows this and will make Fletcher an offer that he can't refuse.
The fact that Perry Riley has been inserted in place of Rocky McIntosh is because Riley is a Shanahan draft pick with a great upside. The Redskins I'm thinking will cut ties with McIntosh early in the offseason. Tim Hightower was running the ball effectively before his season ending knee injury halted his season. Something tells me he'll be back. I like Adam Carriker. He's solid and can get to the QB and stuff the run. |
Re: Make a Decison on the Future of...
I would feel like I was watching a different player.
lol nice Tripp...but Carriker is not that bad. Quality vetern presence who could be in the rotation backing up both Jenkins and Bowen. We are already losing Gholston, losing both would be bad. You could still draft depth for Gholston spot, while keeping a contributing player like Carriker in his prime. Sign him for to an affordable 2-3 year contract. |
Re: Make a Decison on the Future of...
Hightower's return probably depends on what we do in the draft. If we pick up a RB that's a potential feature back, he won't return. If not, he will probably get a vet min contract for one year. Coming off of an ACL injury and with Helu's emergence, it's hard to see him getting a significant deal from us.
Carriker is playing the best ball of his career. That being said, he's a rotational player on a good team so he will probably be back and share snaps with Jenkins. Haslett likes him and he will provide young depth and a consistent effort. Golston & McIntosh-gone. Montgomery-Probably the toughest call on the list. He's serviceable, no more but he's been effective and a huge upgrade over Rabach the past couple of years. I'd guess right now he will be re-signed but may not be at starter money so he can be replaced if a better option comes available in FA or the draft. Polumbus-He'll be back if he's willing to be a backup and take backup money. RT will probably be very high on the shopping list this offseason. Stallworth-I can see him back next year. There will be some turnover at that position next year (Banks, Armstrong, Austin out) and we will be looking for a true #1 WR to pair with Hankerson, Gaffney, Moss and Paul. Stallworth provides, again, good depth at the position. These are all guys who will be solid backups on a good team but not counted on to be starters or major contributors. |

Thank you. I think this front office is smart enough to not go after a guy like Bowe. Let someone else overpay for his inconsistent play. |
Re: Make a Decison on the Future of...
How about if the Redskins give Malcolm Kelly another look IF and that is IF he is healthy. It could happen.

If he's truly healthy, I'd have no problem giving him a look in camp. |

Explain why Bowe is a Red flag? And Inconsistent? Sorry friend but he produces with ANY QB throwing him the ball. 344 Catches and 35 tdS IN 5 years.. 3 out of 5 years with 1000 yards he's a top 10 WR |
Re: Make a Decison on the Future of...
I'm not a huge fan of Bowe either. His effort is questionable at times. I might put him in the top 20 for WRs, but I think we can do better. He could be great, right now he's just good.

I'm JS the guy is a player and I don't see why some think he's a bad guy

344 Catches and 35 tdS IN 5 years.. 3 out of 5 years with 1000 yards he's a top 10 WR
He is consistent and not a bad receiver, but we need more of a stretch the field, big play type. Bowe is a great red zone target. I think KC gave an indication when they went out first round and drafted another WR 1st round last year with that ability. I think Gaffney or Moss can play that same role Bowe plays on that team. The type of receiver with that ability that I describe we need are in free agency this year: VJax(my preference), DJax, Stevie Johnson, Colston (when healthy, major risk for alot of money), and I think Reggie Wayne might still have some left in the tank. A couple other guys who have some big play ability, but not as touted, Ted Ginn and Pierre Garcon...both have had decent seasons and could be under radar of the top teir guys. |
Re: Make a Decison on the Future of...
No to Ginn but I agree with Garcon, he's a play maker

344 Catches and 35 tdS IN 5 years.. 3 out of 5 years with 1000 yards he's a top 10 WR
Bowe is going to cost too much money wise. He's going to be looking for a big pay day. Someone who's really pressed for wr's (Stl) will overpay for what he's worth. Plus look at the history of free agent wr's. Does it really pan out? Randle El, B. Lloyd, Brandon Marshall, Benard Berrian, Anquan Boldin, Chad Johnson, Roy Williams, Sidney Rice...I could go on and on. We've got a guy in Hankerson that can be every bit as good or better than Bowe. |

Unconfirmed reports that Kelly saw this, leapt from his couch in excitement and pulled his hamstring. He says he's day to day. Since this turned partially into a WR thread, here's what I hope our priority list looks like with positives and negatives on a few key guys.. D. Jackson-Speed to burn, playmaker, game changer.. Attitude/maturity issues, do you want to give him a ton of $$ and hope he matures? V. Jackson-Complete receiver minus game breaking speed.. Character questions, with 2 strikes do you risk that with yet another player? Colston-V. Jackson clone without character questions.. Long term health concerns and he gets dropsies occasionally. Bowe-Great red zone and possession guy.. Not top end speed and inconsistent effort. S. Johnson-Has all the tools, occasionally puts them all together.. Hit and miss, seems like he has potential to be Portis like character-do we want that again? P. Garcon-Young, productive, nice skill set.. Not sure if he's a product of the system, some drops. R. Wayne-Career speaks for itself, pros pro.. Older, not a game breaker, does he fit long term plans.. Bringing it back to the original thread, any of these guys would be a major upgrade on Stallworth so if there's a question of one of them (or one of our existing top 4) vs. Stallworth, he's the odd man out. |

Love Mike Wallace, maybe the best on the list, but it gonna cost alot. With Brown and Sanders emerging in Pittsburg, could be easier to get though. |
Re: Make a Decison on the Future of...
I would target Robert Meachem or Pierre Garcon.

Re: Make a Decison on the Future of...
I worry about signing free agent WR's for big money. I think more then most positions the WR production is a reflection of how good the overall offense is...especially the QB. Mike Wallace & Vjax play in high scoring offenses with Big Ben and Rivers at QB. How would they look in an offense with Rex or a rookie QB throwing them the ball? It's basically just hard to know what you have and what you need on offense until you have a QB that plays at a high level.

Re: Make a Decison on the Future of...
Since everyone here has Wide Receiver Fever, you do all realize that Terrell Owens is available - - right?
Someone said that the Skins "need to get younger at WR". I think there is a more important point here. The Skins need to get better at WR; if they also get younger at the same time, that is a bonus. If you are looking at free agent acquisitions, Wes Welker will be a free agent and he can sort of catch the ball once in a while. Also a real sleeper in the free agent class might be Michael Spurlock. |
Re: Make a Decison on the Future of...
I was just about to ask what people thought of Meachem or Harry Douglas?
My question about Meachem, over the last several seasons when Moore and Colston were missing time I expect Meachem to break out in that offense, he never really did. I remember Brees being interviewed a couple years ago and said this was gonna be the year of Meachem. He's never stepped up and if there is any offense to break out in, it would be New Orleans. Douglas really doesnt do anything for me, maybe its the first name. |

Here's the thing with receivers.. They don't just all of the sudden figure it out on their second contract.. These guys are who they are, secondary options. I'd take what we have already (Gaffney, Moss, Stallworth) over Meachem or Douglas. Garcon I'd have to see more of but my big concern is that he's not going to be productive outside of Indy. |
Re: Make a Decison on the Future of...
Hightower- resign him to keep the RB position solid for many years to come. I think the combination Helu and Hightower would a great combination in this system with Royster as a third down piece. I am cutting Torian.
Carriker has work well in the system and should be resigned. We don't know how Jenkins will come back from his injury and Adam is a solid piece. Golston should be brought in to camp, but i don't know if he makes the team McIntosh- Gone, not a fit. Monty- 1 year deal and chance to compete for spot with draft pick Polumbus - He should be back Stallworth - I would definitely bring him back to at least push the younger guys next season. I think he replaced Armstrong. |

Re: Make a Decison on the Future of...
The everage age for this team is a young 25.4 years of age. This includes the current active 53-man roster, guys on IR, and the two on suspension. It does not include guys on the PS which would make the average age even lower. That being said, I agree what Brian Mitchell said on the post game show: this team needs to continue to get the right players and not neccessarily get younger overall. Take a look at the guys "over the hill". The ones in bold were deemed starters.
Beck 30 (insufficient) Grossman 31 (inconsistent) Gaffney 31 (productive) Moss 32 (still going strong) Stallworth 31 (still going strong) Sellers 36 Brown 30 (injuries) Locklear 30 Fletcher 36 (still going strong) Scott 30 Atogwe 30 (injuries) Buchanon 31 Rocca 38 (still going strong) |
Re: Make a Decison on the Future of...
Tim Hightower: Bring him back. He was productive while he was starting and healthy.
Adam Carriker: I'm not opposed to bringing him back and have him compete. Kedrick Golston: Gone for sure. Rocky McIntosh: Gone for sure x2 Will Montgomery: Sign as backup and bring in FA/Draft pick. Tyler Polumbus: Bring back as backup. Donte Stallworth: Bring him in to compete in camp. Most likely camp fodder. |
