Funny you ask, I follow him on twitter and while he hasn't said anything definitively, my sense is he may be a little ahead of sked with the recovery. Again, I'm must going by his tone and the way he responds to people asking about his hip. I don't think you really know until you're out there running pass routes, cutting, changing direction and so forth.

So you think the Skins will carry at least 6 wideouts? If we go with six, you have to think we'll have at least 1 or 2 new faces on the active roster and four carry overs from last season.

If we go with five: Hank, Paul, Gaffney, Moss, that leaves one more.

I think Grossman is an asset at the backup position, as knowing the ins and outs of the system is invaluable. He may not provide results ON the field, but off the field, and especially with a young FA or draft pick leading the team, even at 3rd string he should stay.

I think Hightower should stay, and I know I am playing with fire by saying this, but I think we are set at RB. Helu is a beast, Royester is just going to get better, and Hightower is a great spell. All three are great blockers and I would start any of the three knowing that all would get in as fresh legs

I would like to see Moss stick around to help develop young talent. I cannot see him as a #1 WR anymore but I do think if we put him in there with a viable #1 he can serve as a very good check down WR as he still has decent ball handling skills.

I am going to miss Big Mike because we are set at TE.

We very well could go with 6 WRs. I only had 5 as "stay", and listed Stallworth as a 50/50. I should change that to a 80/20 in favor of him not being around.

C-Montgomery (gone), Cook (gone).. Monty did a decent job and was an upgrade over Rabach but was still pushed back far too often and his shotgun snaps took way too long to get back to the QB. He's a very good backup but miscast as a starter.

TE-Cooley (stay), Davis (stay), Paulson (stay), Myers (gone).. Another stable position here. Davis can go either way but really hurt himself with the drug suspension so his best bet is a 2-3 year contract here. If healthy, this group can really help a rookie QB..

WR-Moss (gone), Gaffney (stay), Hankerson (stay), Armstrong (gone), Stallworth (gone), Anderson (gone), Paul (stay), Austin (gone), Robinson (stay), Banks (gone).. This will be the largest amount of turnover on the roster and probably needs the biggest overhaul.

Santana Miss (pun intended) had his worst season and won't be back. He caught less than 50% of the balls thrown his way, had his worst YPC average and lowest production numbers (catches, yards, TD) since his 2nd NFL season. He's no longer explosive deep or in getting away from defenders and he dropped WAY too many passes. At least 3 of Rex's interceptions were tipped/missed by Moss.

Armstrong, Stallworth, Anderson, Austin and Banks are all replaceable parts. Paul can become what Stallworth provided. Robinson has 4.3 speed and can be a returner (as can Paul) and Banks did nothing this season to warrant him returning. We were among the league worst in KO and punt returns and Banks fumbled 7 times. Preseason heroics can only carry you so far.

Shanahan acknowledged to the NFC East blogger for ESPN that this team needs a #1 WR and that's a priority this offseason. Expect a big push for a Desean Jackson, Dwayne Bowe or Marques Colston type of WR in free agency.[/quote]

I have little sympathy for Locklear's complaint either, but if Shanahan didn't think he was going to frustrate his veteran by passing him up to get Willie Smith PT (the right decision for the long term health of the franchise), he doesn't know what he's doing. Shanahan has no tact.

Why would anyone want to play for a coach who treats people like this?

Jeez cry me a river, sounds like the final meeting he set up was more interesting anyway. This has always been his MO to not be at the final team meeting.

Locklear? Almost as bad as HB Blades popping off on Twitter, and he's not even in the league anymore. Locklear is close to joining him.

Well, it's like the Haynesworth situation in the fact that there are no winning parties. There is just conflict.

Locklear and Blades are hurting the chance for future employment. I wouldn't even have addressed it, personally. It's even possible that the real source of Locklear's frustration was that the team totally laid an egg in Philadelphia.

I would imagine b/c of the overwhelming number of players both present and former that have stated MS treated them fairly, even when they lost the competition for playing time.

Why would any player pay attention to a one-year sub who couldn't consistently outperform an undrafted rookie?

I don't think I have ever known a coach who had any tact...they're coaches..
AND what were you expecting? Some quality hand holding time...Some good girl gossip over Sushi....Campfires and "Blowin' in the Wind"

Those expectations were probably too high.

Shanahan's days of high performance are far enough in the past now (in a league where avg player career is just about three years) that whatever positive things were said back in the day mean little now. Players will remember Mike's handling of the McNabb situation most likely.

...having a God complex (as Mike does) gets overlooked when you're winning and seen as a winner. When you're losing and clearly regressed at your job it just makes you look like a total a$$hole.

I don't know about Parcells' antics much, but Bellichick's antics have always happened when he has had a winning team as far as I know. Honestly, I think this is a bit of a non-story, but at the same time I don't see the need for MS to act the way he acted. Once he starts winning, MS can do whatever the hell he wants to do, in the meantime, every little thing (such as this story) will be criticized by fans and the media.

Maybe? Not sure what players think about it, assuming they care enough to form an opinion. DM was one of the most respected guys in the game and Mike handled him without "tact" as they say.

...personally I doubt any of the qaulity QBs available are real excited about the prospect of working with Mike and his kiddo. As the Zen master says...we'll see.

I think DM lost some of that respect these last few years. Letting yourself get out of shape and admitting you don't know what's going on isn't going to win you many fans in the locker room.

These guys aren't going to change their persona for anybody, regardless if they are winning or not. They are who they are.

I still giggle about that story of Parcells referring to Terry Glenn as "she".

I think that was a pretty cool way to wrap the season. Puts into perspective a tough season and how you need to stick together.

Bowen said some good things, and I really like what AC said. I really hope we resign Carriker, class guy with some good production this season, like to see a 2-3 year extension.

Are we seriously down to criticizing Mike for not holding some scrubs hand to his car on the way out? Is this what Skins fans have stooped to? I'm sure you guys can come up with something better than this, and there are tons of players who want to play for coaches like Shanny (parcells and bellicheck).
