Joe is dead on but it's going to happen. I said this a long time ago. They're going to make a serious run at Manning...older coach, impatient owner, a front office that likes free agents and we've got a lot of cap room. Oh yeah..Grossman and Beck are our QB's.
You don't reward a guy who's just failed 3 drug tests with a long term deal. That would be idiotic at the very least. He's one failed test away for being out a year. Absolutely not.

Franchise him. Make him earn it this next year.
The way the NFL substance abuse policy works, he's still going to be a strike away at this time next year, even if he stays. There's just no way a long-term contract will be any better for the team when Davis is a year older. There is actually a decent chance that 5/$27 won't get it done a year from now.

I agree with your position if your lean is that Fred Davis is unlikely to receive a long term contract with the Redskins. If that's the case, then we should franchise him, draft a tight end in the second or third round, and let him walk in a year provided there is a better option on the roster (which would theoretically be the draft pick).

But if you think that 365 days of no conflict is going to make Davis a better candidate for a long-term contract, that's just not something I agree with. That just costs the team more in the long run, and slows the process of building a winner.

If that's the hit for putting the franchise tag on Landry, then Redskins should not do it. I'm thinking we could sign him for about half that number.

I think Zorn had it made in Seattle, he seemed perfect there.

I would fear for the team that gets him as Offensive Coordinator. With what he has shown as a head coach how can he even be considered for a playcaller position again.

How many times would we see the swinging gate play. I know Zorn didn't exactly have a great roster here but there was no doubt the man couldn't call plays in the NFL. I mean our bingo-caller at least had us competitive in games, while Zorn looked helpless.

My concern with VJ is that he's this big fast WR, that can just suddenly be taken away in games, doesn't make since but it happens to him a lot.

Very nice read. It's always good to read about things athletes go through on a daily basis from an athlete's perspective, instead of a journalist's. That's why I really like to read Bowen's articles, because he can relate to what he's writing about through a unique perspective.

I'm a big fan of Bowen and the folks over at NFP. Much refreshing change from the TMZ-like reporting at PFT.

Bates back with Cutler is a good move for the Bears because Mike Tice in charge of the passing game was sure to be a disaster.

I would love Mike Wallace since what we need more than anything in a WR is someone who can take the top off of a defense. But he's an RFA so likely is not leaving Pitt.

Aggressive move by the Raiders to release Stanford Routt, who will be 29 in July. He instantly becomes the best cover corner on the market.

He's more of a man guy than a zone guy though.

I would take Luck over RGIII simply because I trust him to handle the beating he will take at the next level. Little doubt that RGIII is tough but I've seen him struggle to get more then I'd care to admit.

skinsfaninok 02-09-2012 10:00 PM
