Conventional math is how salary caps are done. Theres something fishy about this 18 mil getting deducted thing that hasn't been exposed. |
Garcon has a 5 year 42.5 mil contract. Carriker got 4 years 20 mil and nfl.com is reporting that morgan got a 2 year deal averaging over 6 mil a year. Thats over 8, 5, over 6. not 7, 2, 2.
It really depends how the contracts and bonuses are structured. I imagine alot of salary cap crunching is going on at Ashburn right now. Chances are the 7 2 2 will be how the cap hits work out. Edit: just read the washington examiner piece on Morgan and while its 12 in the first two years the whole length is 5 years so 12/5 is 2.4 mil. Which is probably the cap hit this year (quick math not cc or shneed number crunching) |

Salary cap math is not conventional, bonuses, guarantees types of payment all get figured in and BA has shown several times he is very astute at writing contracts that minimize the salary cap implications in any given year. |
Re: Cap Analysis - Chill It, Skillet
Garcon over 8 mil a year, Morgan over 6 mil a year, Carriker 5 mil a year, Royal probably to a similar contract to morgan. We are also trying to bring in winston and orton, and we need to sign our draft picks/RGIII. Where are we getting the cap space? I've been hearing everywhere that it's "official" that we have 18 million less this season.
Garcon, Morgan and Carriker have probably taken up around $11 - $12 M in space between them. That leaves another $6 M in remaining space, before the team even restructures any deals. The restructuring could clear up to $20 M in space. They can make the room if they want. Though a small part of me thinks they're saying "f the police" and ignoring the NFL's cap adjustment with the intent of fighting it. They can sign Winston and some safeties and be OK. It's not a cap hell situation. |

I'm fully aware. But its normally not much more than 2-3 million off from the average of the length. The second report saying that Morgan's deal is over 5 years seems to make things make sense. |

Here is CC's post on the projected cap numbers for our shiny new toys.
Did some quick calculations on the recent signings. Here are the cap hits I've come up with so far given the info out there (000s): Carriker 2012: $2,750 2013: $4,750 2014: $5,750 2015: $6,750 TOTAL: $20,000 Garcon 2012: $7,300 2013: $7,300 2014: $8,300 2015: $9,300 2016: $10,300 TOTAL: $42,500 Morgan 2012: $2,200 2013: $2,300 2014: $2,500 2015: $2,500 2016: $2,500 TOTAL: $12,000
|

When I say conventional math, I mean addition and subtraction. I know structuring contracts to maximize possibilities is tough, but looking at a cap sheet and figuring out if our team is under/over the cap is pretty straight forward. |
Redskins | Financials for Joshua Morgan
Tue, 13 Mar 2012 19:19:42 -0700 Updating a previous report, the deal between the Washington Redskins and WR Joshua Morgan is for $5.5 million to sign, $1.8 million in base salary for 2012, which is fully guaranteed, and then for $3.8 million in base salary in 2013, and another $900,000 in bonuses.
Read more: NFL News and Rumors - Hot off the Wire Fantasy Football News According to KFFL, the cap number should be about $2.9 million for Josh Morgan. Unless part of that $900,000 is on this year then it could be higher. |

Agreed. I originally heard 5 years, $12M with an out after year 2. But perhaps it's a 5 year deal for more, with Morgan taking in $12M over the first 2 years. The KFFL numbers imply this. Also the same site has this about Carriker's deal: "Updating a previous report, the contract Washington Redskins DL Adam Carriker agreed to Tuesday, March 13, including a $3 million signing bonus and $700,000 base salary for 2012. He can void the years 2013 through 2015 with a $1 million buyback. The base salaries for 2013 is for $3.7 million, $4.7 million for 2014 and $4.7 million for 2015." Looks like Carriker only got $3M guaranteed not $7M. Based on this Carriker's 2012 cap hit is $1.45M. |

But finding the right numbers to put on the cap sheet isn't simple addition and subtraction(there is division and order of operation stuff too;)), and that's what the discussion was about. You originally said 8+6+5. But those are not the numbers that go onto our teams cap sheet. The right numbers are considerably lower. |
Re: Cap Analysis - Chill It, Skillet
Interesting that Carriker negotiated a deal he can get out in just one year

Re: Cap Analysis - Chill It, Skillet
carriker's contract seems really redskins friendly... its basically a one year deal.

The more I look at it I suspect there is also a $3M option (signing) bonus in 2013 in addition to the numbers mentioned. This would bring the total deal to $20M and the total guaranteed to about $7M as reported. It is an interesting out clause for Carriker. The Skins probably gave him this option in exchange for less guaranteed overall. |

I think that is mostly due to Jenkins, Carriker probably wants to see how much he plays and how often Haslett rotates DL men? |
Re: Cap Analysis - Chill It, Skillet
I loved the signing of Carriker .. that dude is a beast ... rotating him and jenkins with Rak & Kerrigan on outside .. oo wee ... now let's get FLETCH RE-SIGNED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Re: Cap Analysis - Chill It, Skillet
With the news that we've signed a few safeties and are close on re-signing London Fletcher, I think it's a sign that we've either reworked more contracts to create cap space, or that behind-the-scenes discussions with the NFL are taking place and potentially leaning towards a reduction of our cap penalty.
The former is the more likely situation. I don't think these most recent signings would be possible without the creation of additional space. |
Re: Cap Analysis - Chill It, Skillet
A couple of contracts are expected to be restructured over the weekend. If they're not already
We have around $6 million in cap space right now, as I understand it |

So these free agent signings we're making (Fletch, Jackson, etc.) will require that some space be created through the restructures you mention. |
