Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency (and Trades) Tracker (Chapter III)
No kidding. The bulk of Garcon's success last year came in three games against some really bad secondaries. His numbers in the other games are pretty pedestrian. I hope he can handle all the pressures of the spotlight, big contract, and Skins FA curse. Garcon & RGIII better put in a lot of extra time to build some chemistry.
As for Cooley, I think he's battling for a roster spot, if he doesn't show improvement from his last two injury-riddled seasons. I can't see them restructuring him if he's on the roster bubble.
Yeah could be a touch call on Cooley. I don't think he brings the speed factor Mike/Kyle are looking for, but maybe if he's staying slimmer and fully healed we can still contribute. I mean what Cooley was always good at was finding open space downfield at that's still a lot of what Kyle's offense needs whether he's scheming for it specifically or not. I didn't know that stuff about Garcon, but it doesn't surprise me. It's interesting that P Manning didn't take Garcon w/ him i.e. had Peyton made it clear he wanted Garcon w/ him any team would have said "Done...and done." |

Shiiiiiiit, give me doughty over that crap.
Doughty is ass, all he brings to the table is being a sure tackler, he is slow and always late on plays. Jackson is a pretty good playmaker, its not like this guy would be expensive and hopefully he has matured and cleaned his act up, people do that believe it or not. I say sign him to a one or two year deal he is still young and he is better than anything we have. I say still pick up a safety in the draft as well. |

I hope we sign Jackson. His past problems don't concern me that much -- we just factor all of that in when working out an agreement. If he had to choose between weed or cash I bet he would choose the cash but if not, we protect ourselves just in case. |
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency (and Trades) Tracker (Chapter III)
According to John Keim, the Redskins have signed Madieu Williams. Love this move....if it was 2008
|
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency (and Trades) Tracker (Chapter III)
would've wayyy rather picked up jackson. Williams is old and has barely played the past few years
|
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency (and Trades) Tracker (Chapter III)
Here's what we have now
FS: M. Williams, C. Griffin, (Possibly T. Jackson) SS: Meriweather, Doughty, Gomes I'm hoping we still pursue T. Jackson despite signing Williams... Now let's assume we sign T. Jackson as well; do we still draft a FS? (I say No) |

Hes a player and makes things happen. |
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency (and Trades) Tracker (Chapter III)
I don't get why people get so upset over these moves. We have a 90 man roster right now, just because we signed them doesn't mean they'll make it out of preseason. A little roster competition never hurt anyone, especially in a known area of weakness.
|
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency (and Trades) Tracker (Chapter III)
As I've said before, I don't mind having a camp competition for the safety position.

People forget our safety play last year was maybe worst league or at least bottom 3 worst in the league. We need a complete 180 so the more bodies in camp the better. We need mass improvement at that position. |

Are we desperate for CB's? Hopefully he's better now than during his first stint with us. You could've put a paraplegic back there and he would've had a better chance at the ball than Torrence. |
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency (and Trades) Tracker (Chapter III)
Gives us some flexibility. He's a decent vet.

Without a unforeseen infusion of legit talent at safety it's pretty plausible. |

Well our other options would have been Landry with a big health question mark and an aging Atogwe. |

If he can craft good production in 2012 out of this crew he could be in line for a DC position somewhere. If a good player is available at S in the 3rd round and he's the BPA they will make a move via the draft for him as well. The good thing is none of them are big dollars or long term so we can address these positions in 2013 in free agency and/or the draft. |

I know it. What I said wasn't meant to criticize our moves at safety this off-season, but generally this FO hasn't done a good job of developing/acquiring talent in our secondary. |

Thought Wilson was fine Wouldn't totally surprise me if Atogwe even came back down the road this off-season Too early to pass judgement on Gomes and Thompson Am I missing people? |

3rd rounder should be BPA pretty much regardless. QB, OLB, DL, TE are about the only position groups that should be exempt from BPA in the 3rd. |

In terms of the draft, IF we sign T. Jackson, we should cross FS off the list least for 2012 of draft needs. |

What about RB? Burn our 3rd rounder on another RB? What about WR? Burn it on another wideout? Two places this pick can go. Highest rated T, or highest rated S. Period. |
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency (and Trades) Tracker (Chapter III)
Why are we so certain Meriweather won't play FS?
|
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency (and Trades) Tracker (Chapter III)
As long as Lorenzo Alexander is still on the team I think that the skins believe that ILB will be ok with a mid round draftee and Riley and possibly a couple of free agents (college).

Two places this pick can go. Highest rated T, or highest rated S. Period.
If a 2nd round value RB or WR is there at our 3rd round at our third round pick, absolutely. Our RB rotation is ok, borderline decent but Hightower has been a change of pace back his whole career.. Shanny has called Helu and Royster change of pace backs as well. None of them has the look of a feature back. Helu has tantalizing skills, but I question his vision. I think he misses too many holes to be a feature guy. If there is a guy who we think can be THE guy (Doug Martin, Lamar Miller) of course pick him. Same with our WR rotation. I'm of the belief that our WR group in 2013 will only have Hankerson and Paul (maybe Robinson if he shows something in camp) from the 2011 group so there's at least one more player that needs to be brought in. If a Brian Quick, Rueben Randle, Mohamad Sanu is sitting there, run-don't walk-that pick to the podium. I agree that tackle and safety are greater needs but I'm not a subscriber to drafting for need in the 3rd round. If the #7 tackle or #5 safety is on the board but the #2 RB or #4 WR is there, you take the best player available that's not redundant at a position of depth. |

It should be an ILB. The skins have acquired about 4 FA dbs in the last month, and the OL is ok (not great, but ok). |
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency (and Trades) Tracker (Chapter III)
well, i don't think anything in FA would stop us from drafting DBs. we've got old injured suspended players, so... yeah.

Looking forward to having Jenkins back. I didn't know he was 325, at that size he might be pushing Cofield for the NT job.
