Re: Jabar Gaffney Released
I think the $4 million saved is probably already mostly spoken for. I still didn't hear what kind of deal Fletcher got, then we picked up Goff. Most of that $4 million saved will be used up by the rookie pool, methinks.
But there's still probably room to pick up Jacoby Jones if we wanted. He's not costly.
Yeah I'm sure we'll use that $4 million toward the $7 million rookie pool Don't know what we got Goff for or what Hightower may want, or even what we got Rackers for. I think I posted Fletcher's numbers here. Can't remember though. Think it was around 5 years 10 million (2 years guaranteed). 5 million guaranteed |
Re: Jabar Gaffney Released
Ok so Gaffney is released, who do they sign to take his place or atleast who do they sign to take his place on the roster if not another WR?

The Skins passing attack in 2011 was miserable. A lot of that came from the QB competencies - - or lack thereof. A good enough part of that came from the fact that the Skins' WRs - - every last one of them - - was mediocre at the very best. If you want to anoint Gaffney as "the best of the mediocre lot", fine. But do not get carried away and think that he is a valuable property as an NFL WR.
Great one. :laughing- |
With Beck and Gaffney gone, they now save about $4 million
Gaffney's been told that they may be willing to bring him back later this summer but he wouldn't be competing for a starting spot and it would be for....wait for it....the vet min Naturally, he's not interested in any of that. Not now at least Also...how would you all feel about Jacoby Jones?
I would not be happy with Jacoby,he's not an upgrade over Jabar.Being in Houston I've seen more of Jacoby then I want to.He occasionally has a good return, that's about all he's good for Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

gaffney is no flipper anderson although their stats are similar in several ways
On a serious note, this probably speaks to the teams confidence in Hankerson's rehab as well as Morgan's health.
That would astronomically huge for this young team. I'm daydreaming about how RG3 will bring out the most of these 2- more like everyone. But I can't wait to see who RG's favorite target is. |

i say Garcon on the bombs and Freddy for most other routes. |
Jacoby Jones would be a great pick up. If nothing else, he could really help our return game. And we will need good returns since we are doomed without the Beck to Gaffney combo.
Was about to add the same thing. Jones gives you a deep threat and a return specialist. Would really like to add him. As a bonus he already knows the system having worked for KS in Houston. |
Re: Jabar Gaffney Released
Jacoby Jones has been officially released
Jacoby Jones has been officially released
As mentioned, this would be a good pickup; can play slot WR and return punts and kicks... heard he turned down more money from us last year to sign back with Houston. |
Re: Jabar Gaffney Released
Yeah htownskinfan had said that. I think I heard the Saints might be interested
|
Re: Jabar Gaffney Released
I've said it elsewhere; unless Garcon outperforms his best season yet (which was almost identical to Gaffney's) right away, as in 2012, this move by the FO to dump Gaffney for Garcon will be another major, inexplicable blunder. Because...WRs superior to Garcon for less money are almost certain to be available between now and the beginning of the 2013 season.
As the Zen master says...we'll see. |
Re: Jabar Gaffney Released
He got relawsr'd? ?? Oh no.

Re: Jabar Gaffney Released
I'll take the talent and upside of Morgan, Hankerson, and Garcon over the "this is as good as it will get" trio of Gaffney, Moss, and Armstrong 8 days a week
My only issue is that last year Gaffney was far and away our best receiver. Lack of speed didn't stop him.
On the other hand when you bring in two free agents and get a highly ranked prospect back from injury, somebody's gotta go and we have cap issues. Good luck wherever you go Jabar, you played well here.
Moss was our best receiver AINEC. |

Winner. I'd rather go back to arguing the merits of John Beck. :cheeky-sm |
Re: Jabar Gaffney Released
I tend to agree with you all. Out with the old and in wIth the new. Plus sign jones to the squad and we are good to go.

Re: Jabar Gaffney Released
jacoby would be fine. those 5th/6th WR spots are going to be tough to get this year. I think this year it'll be 6 WR / 3 TE / 1 FB / 3 RB and that's including the KR/PR. If we get gafney for cheap later, that'd be great. if not, well, he'd be #4 at best, so letting a young guy in to make a few mistake this season (ie, when it won't matter) and show what they've got (or not) wouldn't be an awful idea either.
I think goff was a great signing too. no risk, possible average NFL starter reward. he's the type of LB that's available every year (like gaffney or our stable of safeties), but it's nice to know we're looking just in case someone decides to break out (like pierce or clark). |
Re: Jabar Gaffney Released
RGIII is already costing us players!!! You just KNOW we only cut him because he wanted to keep #10 but that prima dona QB made the team cut him!!! Kirk Cousins wouldn't do that to a guy! :soapbox:
I hope the others will cut you some slack since you're new here, but in time hopefully you'll learn who here is serious about their inane comments and who is just joking around. AMD is the latter. |
Re: Jabar Gaffney Released
People, I liked Gaffney a lot too but he was no f@cking Jerry Rice. Sheesh.

As do I. @12thman: What are you talking about no Jerry Rice? Jabar Gaffney is the greatest receiver to never hit 1000 yards ever almost a decade into a long and undistinguished career. Name one receiver who brought average ability to the table like he does. Name one receiver, nay! PLAYER, who brought an average work ethic to the table like he does. Nobody will be able to replace his average ability, work ethic, and production. |
Re: Jabar Gaffney Released
@mooby. On second thought, you've convinced me. Damn, what were the Skins thinking?? Vet min anyone?

There you go! You see, if we fill this team with average players, we'll have an average team! Which is a step above what we have now, right? other people who want Gaffney back? |

|
Re: Jabar Gaffney Released
Ok so we now know he's going to the Pats, but have you seen who all they have? lol.
