I totally agree. Doc is the cliche king and that gets old fast. I dont have a problem with a 2 man booth of Larry & Sonny. |
Re: Less Huff In the Booth
I like Huff in the booth. It reminds me how old the franchise is every time he tries to complete a sentence.

Somebody who has excellent knowledge of the game and would be a great analyst is Matt Bowen. Not sure how he does on the air, but his knowledge and insight would be awesome.
Exactly. I don't know why being on the radio should excuse them from doing a top notch job. |

Most people feel that radio is a 3rd class entertainment citizen. The variance between Radio's quality and the other platforms(tv and online) is subjective but generally considered to be poorer. This leads to a varying degree of what people will stomach out of local radio broadcasters. I personally like them all for what they're worth. If i want nostalgia, and full on coolaid, i listen to the radio. If i want information, i go to the internet. If i want to get drunk, i watch television. |
Re: Less Huff In the Booth
Quite candidly there are few things I detest more about being a Redskins fan than having to listen to Sam Huff. And I'm generally not one to get all carried away with who the announcers are. But Huff is so beyond horrible it's repulsive. For over a decade Frank and Sonny and later Larry and Sonny have been covering for him far more than people realize. That it's radio is no excuse, there were many times when I (and am sure many others) had no other means but the radio broadcast to catch a game.
I totally respect what Sam Huff has meant for not only the Redskins but the NFL as a whole. He changed the game, no question about it. And it's naive to think that his aggressive play didn't at least have some impact on his "inabilities' today. But enought is enough. He 100% must go. |

They'll eventually have to replace him, if he becomes senile enough that he says something that garners enough attention. I think that's the best shot at this point. |

Re: Less Huff In the Booth
Snyder's stations are low-power candles while JFK is a flame-thrower signal-wise. It has less to do with equipment and more to do with FCC license. If everyone could set their station up with a mammoth signal they all would but the FCC doesn't let them.
Snyder tried to compensate by buying multiple stations to blanket the region but it is pretty spotty. As long as he wants to own the whole broadcast operation it is going to be like that unless he can pull off swapping his candles for the likes of a JFK. Which costs serious coin. And there aren't a lot of big-signal stations to begin with. Certainly not many with for-sale signs out front. |

Still 12 games too many in my opinion but it's a start
Unless for health reasons the team should look to cut back on Aikmen in the booth before they go after Huff. I'm still baffled as to why FOX could not locate some old Redskins to sit in the booth besides Aikmen on game day. |
Re: Less Huff In the Booth
I don't get the Aikman hate. To me he seems relatively unbiased and calls a pretty good game. I'm not much of a Joe Buck fan, but Aikman is one of the better Fox announcers in my mind.

Re: Less Huff In the Booth
Agree with everything everyone has said about Huff. The bottom line is that he is no longer qualified to be doing radio broadcasts. No reason to get angry with him, but everybody knows it, and it is a fact. Frankly, I think the Redskins Radio brass are doing more of a disservice to Huff's legacy by letting him continue to broadcast than they would by politely asking him to step down.

Re: Less Huff In the Booth
We were late to the game yesterday so I caught the first part of it on 980. Sam is just brutal and even my gf was like.."I can't believe that Sam Huff is still doing the games, he sounds so horrible!" I did notice that Doc was part of the broadcast, I guess he was the on the field reporter. They should just move him up and get rid of Huff asap.

Loyalty brother. It's all about loyalty. Aikmen is very smart, good commentator, however I wish he was doing that for Dallas not the Skins. I personally don't want some jock strap from Seattle in my booth commontating about our Skins. I'd prefer it be an old Redskin. To me Aikmen is a Cowboy. Why do I want a Cowboy in the booth during a Redskins game? Has nothing to do with who's the best commentator, it has everything to do with team loyalty and Aikmen was the evil, rival opponant. I don't want to hear him. |
Was listening to the Indy game over the radio with a Philly fan and he was loling the entire trip up. He noted Doc had some horrible one liners, which I've mentioned here before.

To mildly paraphrase:
Larry Michael: How about Dale Earnhardt Jr. calling that TD just now?! Bet that's a first for a NASCAR Driver Sam Huff: And my first time shaking hands with one of those from Indianapolis, or wherever they're from. Where do NASCAR drivers come from? |

The skins have no control over who announces our games that up to FOX. I actually think Aikmen is a good announcer and when they have him with the great Tom Brennaman they make a great team. |

Re: Less Huff In the Booth
I'm with the Aikman supporters crowd. Him being a game announcer has nothing to do with his playing days. He's actually my favorite out of all the announcers on Fox, he's always calm, level-headed, unbiased, and he brings great insight into the game too. Plus when he's talking it means I don't have to listen to Joe Buck.

As long as the guy in the booth does his job well, which Aikman does, I could care less who he used to played for.
and yes I'd prefer a homer in the booth. Personally I'd bet the homer would be able to walk in and talk to the players more often and know whats going on with each player and his position better then Aikmen would. Can't speak for Huff though. I'm not saying Huff should not go, I'm saying Aikmen should go announce Dallas games before they get rid of Huff. But I will say I have not liked any of the young guys they have used in the past in place of or with Huff and his team. To me that is. |

Honest Question: Are you actually serious about this, or just trolling? And who are your favorite announcers who have called Redskins games |
Re: Less Huff In the Booth
I prefer non-homers honestly. I cringe when I hear rampant homerism in the booth. Someone like Sonny is OK since he doesn't just BS how everything is great. Sam is terrible for that is noted above. Doc I think is not so great...to homerish for me.
But Sam...well he has to go. It's bordering on cruel to both him and fans to keep him on board. I know Sonny is tight with Snyder so maybe that affects it all. |

To me that is.
The national guys get like 1 day to meet with the teams and talk to players. Remember it is ONE broadcast of TWO teams. Should Fox produce a separate broadcasts for each team's market? Which one do they provide to the nation? Not gonna happen. The point of the Fox/CBS/NBS/ESPN broadcast teams are to be neutral teams who can present the game for the entire country and speak neutrally abou the game and teams. It's the whole point. |
Re: Less Huff In the Booth
I'll give you another, I'm stomaching Randel El. To me he was a Steeler's player who came to us for a few short years. Then went back to being a Steeler. Why isn't he sideline reporting for the Steeler's? Honestly I can deal with him but for what ever reason I don't like how he articulates some of his words and he sounds like he's mumbling sometimes. What happened to some of the female sideline reporters from last yr?
Who the heck is the sideline reporter who played for the Ravens? Sometimes he will be on the sideline and not say a word unless the booth asks him a question (I love him on those days), then there is the games he seems he just can't shut up. I do like how he points out specific things with the OL or DL which ususally none of the announcers will talk about. |

I can't imagine the logistical nightmare of trying to match up national broadcast teams so god forbid nobody is doing a game of a former rival. Let's take a quick look at this. So basically Aikman shouldn't do any NFC East games. Daryl Johnston no NFC East either. How about Brian Billick? No NFC North games, and no AFC North games. Cris Collinsworth no AFC North for him. Can you see how ridiculous this would be? |
Re: Less Huff In the Booth
larry michael is like a slightly more advanced forrest gump, w the redskins taking the place of his "jenny".
I'm guess your dislike is more against the player Aikmen then the announcer Aikmen. I felt the same way at first then I realized he is fair when annoucing our games.
Yes, and as I stated before it's not that I think he can't announce or that I think he doesn't have a clue (because I think he's smart and announces well) it has everything to do with loyalty to me. Why on earth should we have a Dallas Cowboy announcing Redskins games? There's 32 teams, obviously they are playing each other 16 vs. 16, and some are on bye weeks. How hard is it for FOX to get 1 announcer from each to announce their own games? I'd even tolerate it more if Aikmen was in the booth with a local announcer or ex player for the Skins. Imagine the talk that they would have if they put Arrington in the booth with him. lol. Somewhere the media has gone afoul with thier idea that they should just put together announcing teams and have them rated and the biggest game gets the biggest rated announcers. I'd prefer local media announcers and perhaps an ex player to give insight to some of the dynamics as well as perhaps some inside info they get from being out at Redskins Park vs. an announcer who used to play for our RIVAL team. They should have just gotten an ex Sandiego Charger to announce our games. Atleast then I would not have any ill will toward them. I don't want to see anyone from our division announcing our games but Dallas? An ex Dallas player? |
