Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero
I guess my vote will have to be the next OL that is brought into camp :-P
apparently Tim Hightower has now been listed as the number one RB on the depth chart. Dont know if that will hold until opening day, but its something.....

Tim Hightower did a good job for us last season until he went down with that torn ACL. But he still trailed both Royster and Helu in yards per attempt. I hope Tim Hightower can improve his yards per carry average this season as well as stay healthy. He might not be the starter the entire season anyhow. |
Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero
Rex Grossman ............... joking
Adam Gettis and Jordan Bernstine - Dont know if they will tear it up so much as fill in nicely due to the lack of depth on both the o-line and the db's - but whatever the reason I think that they both make the roster and we will all be more than happy to have them - Minnifield would have been my pick instead of Bernstine if he wasnt injured. |
Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero
I actually think that keenan robinson can turn up in a big time player with a little coaching and bulking up. He could eventually be a ball hawk of a LB. Has to learn to cover better in space though, but I think that is within the realm of possibility......

I had actually for three minutes forgotten about the oline issues and was getting very excited for the season to start. You have saddened me. Ok - sorry - back to the topic at hand. |
Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero
<sigh> People just don't get it.
Think Sultan McCollough - players who make you say "Who???" |
Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero
This is the guy that will surprise the most, I think he's a beast.
<sigh> People just don't get it.
Think Sultan McCollough - players who make you say "Who???"
Pretty much. I don't understand why it's so hard to get, in the past we've never had a problem latching onto a previously unknown player after a stellar preseason performance. |
Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero
Brian McNally.
Played DE in college but is switching to LB. He'll have some big plays at the end of a game and everyone will fall in love with him. Don't think it counts, but Kirk Cousins will be an all star in each preseason game. He'll perform like the second coming of Tom Brady against guys not making a team.
Kirk Cousins is actually a good choice for this award. |
Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero
The options are up. I didn't offer an "Other" because someone would be like "Man, I really think Ryan Kerrigan is gone shine this summer. I'm voting for him"
And Kirk Cousins is not a long shot to make this roster, so he doesn't quite count |
Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero
Since Alfred Morris (seriously, a 6th round running back with a fumbling problem in college? If that isn't a longshot idk what is) isn't up there, I voted for Lance Lewis. Why you ask? My reasoning is not based on stats, or anything he did in college, or anything from his personal life (like a youtube video of him jumping out of a pool barehanded), but it's simply based on the fact that I want him on the roster so I can refer to him as "Lance Lewis; Space Detective" from now on.

I agree. Fifth round picks and beyond should qualify for this prestigious honor. The boosters have spoken. |
Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero
No Monte Lewis?? Where's the love?
Already dissed by the powers that be, my man monte (see how that just rolls off the toungue??) is lock to be the key element to our Lombardi march. Without him, all is lost. |
Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero
Josh Morgan? Brandon Banks? Those types shouldn't qualify
Based on the op Banks I think should have been considered. I think you could call him a longshot - definitely not Morgan though. |
Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero
Actually Josh Morgan would be a surprise coming off injury and never really doing much in his career..
Im banking on this guy to finally stay healthy long enough to show more than flashes - I guess we all are though - I couldnt call him as a longshot to make the team though imo |
Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero
Did anyone say Desmond Briscoe ?? I am going to say he is the sweetheart longshot............Big wide reciever - has the connection with Raheem Morris - led TB in touchdown receptions last year - surprised he didnt make the list.
|
Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero
He didn't make the list b/c he is an established NFL player. The "Pre-Season Hero" award is for previously unknown players (as in "Who the F are they??") that become Warpath favorites in pre-season that end up being cut when the final roster comes out. Some of the past winners are Jeffrey Lumsden, um .... Sorry, can't think of any others right now.
Personally, I think that to be eligible for the Sultan McCollough award the player has to be an undrafted free agent or a back up from the CFL or Arena Leagues - A player that has never made it out of an NFL training camp and was originally thought of as nothing more than a "camp body" at best. |
Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero
How about my man Jordan Bernstine?
He's gotta be a longshot considering there are 5 safeties in front of him at a position where they typically keep 4 |
Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero
When (not if) Monte Lewis makes the Pro Bowl this year, he will be angry that he was not included in the poll. Beware the wrath of Mighty Monte.

First day here. I was focused mainly on the word longshot but i get it now. Longshot and unknown. Oh and who the hell is jeff lumsden? No wonder he won this award. Lol |
Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero
Tristan Davis really looks the part. I think once he tears it up against some 4th stringers people will be drooling.

He'll be included in my 2035 poll. Greatest Monte in Redskins History: Coleman or Lewis? |

Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero
I'll wait for the next poll because I don't think any of these guys make the final cut.
|
Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero
Pre-Season Heroes usually don't make the roster...but damnit why not?!
|

The point of being a pre-season hero, is that often the guy doesn't make the cut, and at some point later we see a new user named: MonteMyMonte, or CultBrennan59(:cheeky-sm), screaming bloody murder that their guy, the saviour of the Skins, was cut and that the team shall rue the day! |
Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero
This is more painful than it needs to be.
|
Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero
I think I underestimated how many new people we have on this site. Oh well
|
Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero
Brian Mcnally, isnt he the one that injected Clements with roids? Im voting for that guy.

No, that's Brian McNamara, although I'm not sure if that's the correct spelling of his last name. Also  at this thread. |
Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero
OK, got a new preseason hero.
Chad Englehart. |

I couldn't agree more. T. Davis has to be the running. |

Well played. |
Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero
Let's get some nominees so we can get a poll going before Thursday's opener.
Remember, these are the guys who are long shots to make the roster but will win your hearts this summer and convince you they have to make the roster if we have any shot at the Lombardi (the Sultan McCullough Award) Guys like Darius Hanks, Trayvon Bellamy, Brian McNally
Wasn't there a WR (Marcus) or something that started this award? Personally I call it the MM (Marcus Mason) award. or.... maybe we could give it the Pinapple Jesus award title. |
Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero
^ Sorry never mind. The award I mentioned is a whole nother thread and award for players not expecting to make the team but do because they light up preseason but do nothing afterwards.
|
This is more painful than it needs to be.
I say that at 100 times a day at work. Why wasn't London Fletcher on the list - he is going to surprise some people and make All-Pro this year. |
^ Sorry never mind. The award I mentioned is a whole nother thread and award for players not expecting to make the team but do because they light up preseason but do nothing afterwards.
No, I think Mason was a former winner. He did light up the pre-season - two years in a row. After doing nothing in the regular season, and lighting up the pre-season a second time people were screaming that he just wasn't given an opportunity. After being cut by us, he couldn't latch on with anyone. [I think I have that right]. Anthony Armstrong was kinda in the category a couple years ago but I think he has lost eligibility at this point. |
Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero
I wonder if Travon Bellamy has a brother ......id be waaay coooler if he did.
|
Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero
Maybe this makes me a bad fan, but I literally looked at these names and went, "who are these guys?"
Maybe this makes me a bad fan, but I literally looked at these names and went, "who are these guys?"
Not you too D-Rave, that's the whole point. Right now nobody is going to know or care about any of these camp bodies, but by the end of preseason we're all going to have fallen in love with one of these players, only for that player to be inexplicably cut on the last cut date, and then go onto a practice squad career with another team, and be out of football in the next 3-4 years. |
