Sucks, love the guy. My 2nd favorite Redskin only to Green. Bye Cooley thanks for the memories and effort. You were a bright spot for many years when everything else seemed dark.

Hopefully he goes to a team like the Pats or Broncos, and has a chance to win a championship as a role player

Is his gallery in Leesburg still open?

At least he has another passion in his life to fall back on unlike a lot of players (and a hot wife).

I think we all saw this day coming. It really sucks to see him go. Looking at Cooley on the field, I don't think he can run like he use to. Obvioulsy they like what they see in Paulsen and Paul.

Re: Chris Cooley Released

Well, I admit the Cooley Reebok jersey for 19.95 that I got Saturday might not have the same luster, but that's not going to stop me from wearing it. Glad he got a catch and I got to yell Coooooooley once more, but I guess his time had come. What does it say that he was on our 1's through preseason though? I don't see any other TE coming close to him as a 3rd down goto guy. Guess that becomes Garcon.

Nothing. Says that Young was hurt and Fred Davis wasn't used much

I'll still wear my Portis jersey on occasion too. Actually right now it's my only jersey but I'm not ashamed of wearing it...nor should you.

Both guys were Skins legends while they were here.

I'm afraid next year we'll be having this thread about Moss too. Maybe two years if he has a big season in 2012.

I knew this day was coming but I wasn't looking forward to it all the same. I really wish him the best of luck at wherever his life takes him next, whether it be into media, or with another team. One of my all-time favorite Redskins. Thank you for sacrificing everything to be successful on the field.

I bought one of the jersey's myself at TC and I will wear it with pride. CC great team guy good TE, shall be missed. CC should work the sidelines not Randel IMO CC is a TRUE SKIN.

Everyone here has been pretty rational about it.

You want to see crazy, check the Skins FB page. You would think somebody went door to door and killed everyone's dog.

It sucks honestly but it's a business and CC has just not produced in a couple years. Still one of my al time fav skins

I was thinking the same thing. Actually I was thinking with all these wr's on the roster, does Moss stay? Is he in trouble this year?
Cooley would, I think, do better in the studio on sports radio than as a color commentator in the booth
I think he would be better on the field insted of Randel El. Atleast he would know the players and be able to joke with them vs. Randel El being so removed from the team. Randel El should have been the sideline commentator for the Steelers. He knows them and the system.

Re: Chris Cooley Released

You know I hate to say this, but I wonder how the salary cap penalty the Skins are under this year played into this. Cooley would have been an expensive back up yes, but are the Skins making room to make another move somewhere really soon? I mean yes, they featured Niles Paul in the preseason just to see what they have in him I'm sure, which is why the lack of passes to Davis doesn't bother me at all, but Cooley could have had a role this year as a FB/TE. Younger, faster, stronger is the mantra for this team.

NC_Skins 08-28-2012 03:14 PM

Re: Chris Cooley Released
Hmm...I think this might be the end, unfortunately. I couldn't see the Skins releasing a franchise, all-time great for salary reasons, then bringing him back on the cheap. I have to believe they would spare him the embarrassment if it came to that.

Snyder, Allen, and Shanny are classier than that.
According to Mike, Cooley wanted to start and my guess is they released him so he could perhaps find a team on his own that he could start and contribute.
Cooley — the franchise’s all-time leader in receptions by a tight end — was released Tuesday by the team, in a move head coach Mike Shanahan said was meant to give the two-time Pro Bowl selection a better opportunity to start elsewhere.
Oh, it was meant in general, not so much here. Their FB page, ES, and others were much more adamant about keeping Cooley. Just thought it was appropriate..lol

I don't think money played too much of an issue. I think Davis being the starter, Paulsen the spot blocker and a developing Niles Paul played into it more than anything. If Niles Paul struggles then this doesn't happen. We went young...and it happened to also be cheaper. If money was really an issue they would have done this long ago.

I don't feel the same about Moss. Moss was not drafted by the team, Moss was picked up later. He had one or two good seasons then had his injury bug and has not been the same either. Maybe losing weight will help him this yr which will be exciting but otherwise I don't feel the same.

Cooley was drafted by the team and has been here a long time. He's been through the ups and downs. Mostly downs. I really was hoping we would get him a ring before he had to leave.

Given the verbiage in the press release about allowing him time to catch on elsewhere and cooleys comments about putting on another jersey - i dont think thats an option.

I'd have rather we cut/resign on the cheap and get rid of paulsen, but oh well.

since when do teams leave picks or players on the table? if the redskins could have traded him, does anyone here really believe that they would release him for his own good? i don't. i believe there were no takers.

did the redskins really say "a team offered a 6th for him but chris' future is more important than ours"?!? come on, dawg

Forget takers, watching that video made me think that he wouldn't play for anyone else, even if traded.

I don't think he would have had such an emotional press conference (while wearing a generic NFL shirt) if that was still a possibility, sad to say.

Nobody was going to pay Cooley that salary he was supposed to get which is probably why no trades really materialized.
