Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
Reed is not bad when asked to stop the run or rush the QB, but when asked to cover a WR he's got to be one of the worst cover guys. Teams picked up on this. If he was close to the line the would either send the guy he was covering out for a pass (usually the RB), or watch to see if he backed off then run the ball.

Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
Reed gives up plays passing plays against above average recievers but still he is a backup and I'm not sure there is a better special teams backup player on the roster that could fufill his role. Keep him on this years squad. I'm thinking this maybe the last year for Gholston considering we have alot of talented cheap young depth on the D line.
we'll hearing the QBs hard count, hearing the defense shout out signals, hearing WR's calling for the ball...

What if Fletch needed to audible out of the formation and Doughty couldn't hear him (which he probably can't?) There's just subtle adjustments that have to made to compensate for the lack of hearing. Still, Reed deserves props for being able to overcome it. Count me in amongst one of the Doughty supporters, I think we could do far worse for a backup.
Fletcher use hands signals when he calls out an audible. Listening to QBs counting can draw players to go offsides, it is better to watch the ball. I hope you don't think that being deaf will affect player's abilities to play football well, or any other sports. |

Ok well he has an advantage over other players and still sucks, get him off the team |
Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
I've always liked Reed but he doesn't have top end speed. People see him in the TV shot and assume he's the one getting burned. Sometimes, but not always. Sometimes he's coming over to help and chasing down the tackle. I think it was the Colts game that the CB got burned and Reed chased the play down the sideline for a great open field tackle. IMO he's a top 50 NFL safety which makes him better than a lot of other options (Archuleta, OJ) we've had recently.
Erik Cook...get out of the kitchen
Waiting for him to star for another team - because being cut by the Skins guarantees you pro bowl status for another team. Just ask Marcus Mason. |
Banks, Doughty, Kehl, Willie Smith, Terrence Austin, Jordan Black and Cedric Griffin. Those guys need to go.
I think Kehl has been very solid. Good special teams player, energy guy who could play in passing down packages. I think him and Alexander would make outstanding depth at ILB. |
Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
Travon Bellamy...gone
Tristan Davis...see ya |
Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
Travon Bellamy...gone
Tristan Davis...see ya
Bellamy got abused a couple of times against the Bucs and thereby did not help his case. |
Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
Travon Bellamy...gone
Tristan Davis...see ya
Damnit! Two more Pro-Bowlers we were forced to release because of a numbers game! We can't keep giving these guys away! |
Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread

Any place that has news of all cuts going? Just want to see who other teams cut also.
|
Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
Any word on Kyle Shanahan? My CI said Mike had a tough decision on his hands the Raiders called and offered him a pair of front row Loverboy tickets for Kyle.

Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread

I suppose I could start another thread on NFL cuts, but I unfortunately have work to do so I'll just focus on Redskins cuts I think NFL.com should have something though |

Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
Smith ended up being a disappointment after flashing a little tiny bit of promise last year.

Based on how quickly these cuts are coming out, it seems like Shanny has reservations at Morton's at 6pm. |
Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
Oh so we have all day! I mis-read 9AM somewhere then, my bad. I was wondering about all these teams that played last night. So first practice with the 53 is Sat and I figure practice squad guys get signed when? Into next week?

PS guys can sign tomorrow. Basically once all cuts are made then the GMs spend a few days filling out the PS. |
Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
Grant Garner-later dude

Bryan Kehl...close to being traded

thats a win, would like a player not a pick. |
Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
Well, that would be good. I liked the guy, but just didn't see him beating out Alexander or Robinson.
|
thats a win, would like a player not a pick.
Yeah well we'll see if they can actually secure a trade |

Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
Smith ended up being a disappointment after flashing a little tiny bit of promise last year.
He just needs a team that doesn't have an endless culture of losing. Put a good team around him and he will shine. He is a future pro-bowler - you can take that to the Banks. |
Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
Tom Compton-see you on the practice squad (maybe)
Terrence Austin-leave your keys at the front desk |
Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
I am betting Austin is picked up by somebody.
So ... if Robinson waived as rumored and Briscoe a lock as you think, that leaves Banks and Armstrong for one slot (if they only keep six). I think Banks made the team. |

Not sure though As for Austin, told some of you on Monday that the Redskins and Jets were talking about a possible trade for a late round (likely conditional pick). Jets ultimately said no, probably realizing that he was going to be cut this week anyway |
Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
Willie Smith, Doug Worthington, and Tom Compton have all been offered spots on the practice squad
