Good news all around.

Josh Wilson has been cleared to resume practice from his concussion and should play.

Fred Davis was tested for a concussion and passed. He's playing too.

Garcon was limited in practice yesterday but is practicing. Last week he didn't practice at all until Thursday and was "very limited". He's getting better but will still be a game-time decision.
That's great news! If Garcon is full speed and back on Sunday, it's going to be a fun day!
I agree with you. I saw the ranks on Redskins Nation this morning and we're 4th in offense and 28th in defense. The Bengals are 30th in defense and 18th on offense.
The Bengals are 30th in Defense and while they played the Ravens and got crushed in week one, they made the Browns look like superstars last week. The Redskins should be able to score on them, its just a matter of stopping them. If the Skins defense doesn't play better this week after a 3 game sample, I think the Redskins are going to end up being one of those teams that is exciting to watch all year because they can score, but we will all be pulling our hair out, because they can't stop anyone.

I'd rather rest him if he's not completely 100%. We can score without him. The Rams D is far better than the Bengals and we still scored. Our schedule is going to get extremely tough soon and we need Garcon more then.

I hope Aldrick worked on his hands this week in practice. Hankerson too...you can't be scaring us like that.

Man..Griffin almost had 2 TD passes of 60+ yards in one game and ran for 2 himself. This is fun to watch.

Aldrick has been pretty spot on for catching the ball. He dropped that one pass, and it wasn't about his hands. His positioning was terrible. Instead of turning his shoulder to look the other way, he tried to bend over limbo style. That'll come with experience on the field.

Hankerson on the other hand still doesn't seem very confident with his hands. I'm just not sure about him yet.

I thought we were 30th in defense?

Edit: ranked 27th from the article above.
I like that we won't have to contend with crowd noise on offense. The last two games the snap has been dependent on Chris Chester tapping Will Montgomery, a very obvious motion, when RGIII is ready for the snap. The defense knows when the snap is coming and they have gotten the jump on us many times. Because of this, I think our running game will be a huge factor and take a lot of pressure off our passing attack, which has carried us the past two weeks.
I havent even noticed this... nice observation

This is the type of game the Redskins need to win but always end up losing. We have a great chance to win this game. Offensively and defensively the Redskins match up well with the Bengals.

Re: Bengals @ Redskins: Lets Break it Down

I'm not going to try to predict this game but I have a few points to make about it.

First, if we get Pierre Garcon back, he could make a big difference for our offense and turn the game in our favor. He is the one WR we have who can consistently beat a defense and who can force the Bengals to cheat a little in coverage and get out of position.

Second, why would any Redskins fan who's been paying attention think that playing at home will be to our advantage? Inexplicably, the Skins have not necessarily played well at Fedex. Our home field should be intimidating to our opponents and inspiring to our team but it's not. Maybe RGIII will help to change that.

Third, the Bengals are expecting trick plays and QB runs. That's good. Let that threat be in the backs of their minds. But I think the Skins could and should just beat them the old fashioned way by pounding them with the run and then hitting them with some big pass plays when the Bengals safeties start to cheat up a little.

Last, I think that it is risky and irresponsible of the Shanahans to call a lot of designed runs for RGIII. I have no problem with the standard QB stuff (draws, sneaks, and rollouts) when appropriate but they are going to get him hurt if they are not more careful with him. He has a great arm so let him use it! The best use of his speed and athleticism is for him to extend plays to allow his receivers more time to get open downfield. This is a game we should be able to win without exposing RGIII to a lot of unnecessary hits.

Re: Bengals @ Redskins: Lets Break it Down

^ trick plays? I dont know if zone reads, bootleg are trick plays, but i dont think Shanny and Kyle will not remove them from an offense that has performed well the last couple weeks.

Here is a perspective on matchup to watch:https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2012/09/21/3tfo-bengals-redskins-week-3/

Cincy has given up a 5.5 yard per carry avg folks. If we cant run the ball against that....And given a 119 passer rating avg against and 9.4 y per attempt for passing. This is against Philly (decent) and Cleveland (below avg) offenses.

I think our defense does better against stand up, straight ahead power running backs, so we should be decent againt the lawyer firm. I pray Haslett mans up Josh Wilson on AJ Green all day long. I worry about J Gersham match up.

this could be a shoot out

artmonkforhallofamein07 09-21-2012 10:47 AM

Re: Bengals @ Redskins: Lets Break it Down

Given those numbers Chico the offense should have a field day. RG III is leading the league in YPA and he is in the top four in passer rating.

Our ground game has been a beast and if we can just get some defense to show up we have a good chance at winning this game.

As to the point of FedEx not giving the team a geat advantage, I will say this. I live in Charleston, SC and I am planning on attending a couple of games this year with the first being the Falcons game in a couple of weeks. Why? Because you want to be there to see this guy live. I would imagine with all the hype (which is well deserved to this point) surrounding our QB, and a fan base who has been waiting years to see a qb like this FedEx will be a deafening place for opposing offenses to work very soon and a nice quiet atmosphere for the offense to do work.

I can tell you this, with this new guy we have alot more respect from other teams fans, and RG III is scaring alot of the other NFC East teams fans. I know plenty of guys who route for our division mates then root for the Skins and these guys are scared. A but off topic but I had a Dallas fan (my neighbor) come up to me after the Saints game and tell me it was between us and the 9ers for the NFC this year. I told him he was crazy and it was WAAAYY to early for that sentiment, but it did feel good to have that said to me in a completely serious tone.

Re: Bengals @ Redskins: Lets Break it Down

The Redskins need to pound the ball with Morris early and often. The Bengals have excellent play makers on defense. They also have a few players who like to hit. If Morris can get some early carries and gain some yardage, it would take pressure from off of RG3. This will open up the play action pass. It would also be interesting to see Kyle Shanahan call a few trick plays involving Griffin III.

Re: Bengals @ Redskins: Lets Break it Down

This game will be determined by the Redskins ability to stop the Bengals Wide Receivers, oddly enough, I'm not too concerned about AJ Green. If I'm calling the defensive plays I'm leaving Cedric Griffin out on AJ Green all day. I like Cedric's size and he plays the ball well when it's in the air. I'm more concerned about Andrew Hawkins and Brendan Tate. Smaller speedy receivers seem to be our achilles heel.
We also need to send extra pressure on first down when the Bengals love to go play action. The Bengals are going to move the ball, I think they will be successful between the 20's, but I believe we can stop them and hold them to field goals in the redzone.

***Mark it here. BJGE will have his first fumble for a turnover this game***

Final: Skins 28 - Bengals 16

Anyone else concerned with our training, strength and conditioning staffs? Just quickly off the top of my head:
-Jammal Brown dealing with a variation of the same injury for 3 years
-Laron Landry dealing with his issues for 2 + years
-Brian Orakpo suffering the same injury (twice!) that he supposedly was recovered from
-Kory Liechtenstieger having surgery 3 days into camp on his repaired knee
-Jarvis Jenkins not having his explosion or power back 14 months after his injury..

That's all that jump to mind but I think there are others. Either it's a strange series of coincidences that our players don't get or stay healthy or something is amiss with our medical and training staff.

No one should be surprised Shanny is saying nothing on Garcon. The guy is notorious for running football squads under a veil of secrecy.
My observation was that Garcon originally hurt his foot early in the game on a screen play on the first drive. He sat out a couple of plays before reentering on the next drive. His foot was already hurt on the long td catch and seemed to reagrivate it on that same play.

Re: Bengals @ Redskins: Lets Break it Down

If the Redskins are to win this game against Cincinnati, then they most control the time of possession and try to keep the opposing offense off the field much like they did against the NO Saints. Defensively, the Redskins have to get excellent pressure on Andy Dalton and the secondary must man up on those Bengals receivers.

Garcon not playing again is bugging me, but nothing we can do. I've heard rumors that Hankerson won the starting role over Robinson from his pass blocking skills and big game last week. I'm excited to see him come out and excel.

skinsfaninok 09-21-2012 11:21 PM

Is it confirmed that PG is out again? That blows man because he really is our number 1 WR. Hank and Morgan are both good players too and apparently Robinson is becoming a trusted target as well, even with his drop last week later in that game. My Q is what happened to moss? Guess he's just done?

I always liked McNugget's until he came here. Considered him a class act and under-appreciated commodity in Philly.

Now, what a douche-nozzle. He's still issed he couldn't instill more confidence in the staff here than the REAL RG3 (Rex Daniel Grossman III) and then spit in the face of the franchise on the way out. He's awful as a analyst and a bum to boot.
