Re: Where does RGIII rank?
I just saw this article in Bill Simmons' Grantland site. It is from October but I thought it was hilarious what they said about the Redskins and RG3. I'm so glad we have such an excitingly good player:
"1. Redskins … Robert Griffin III, who is the most exhilarating football experience since Michael Vick emerged on the scene in 2002. And RG3's numbers blow Vick's away. Keep in mind that Griffin leads the league in completion percentage (70.8 percent) and yards per attempt (8.5) with Leonard Hankerson and Josh Morgan as his starting wideouts, and that doesn't even consider his value as a runner. You know how Simmons has the Tyson Zone for celebrities who are so crazy he'd believe anything he heard about them? I feel the same way about Griffin on the field. If I'm watching the Red Zone channel on Sunday and I see the "Coming up … " image with a Redskins graphic, my mind races. Did RG3 just kick a 65-yard field goal? By accident? Did he go back in time and relieve Drew Storen? Is he hosting the Red Zone Channel right now? You could tell me RG3 accomplished just about anything during a game on Sunday and I'll believe it. These days, nobody in football is more watchable or entertaining." |
Re: Where does RGIII rank?
It really makes me excited to think about the next 10+ years with RG3. It should be a real blast to watch his career play out. I'll be shocked if we don't win at least one SB with him.

One Super Bowl? Once Bruce Allen and Mike Shanahan has thoroughly built this Redskins team, we will be the first team in NFL history to 3peat with RG3!!!!!!!!!!!! |

And I'm reigning in my enthusiasm until after the first SB this year. |
Re: Where does RGIII rank?
RG3 is so good that he could have run the Redskins offense a year ago as a Jr. attending Baylor.
|
Re: Where does RGIII rank?
RGIII is so good he could run St. Mary's Catholic Central HS ( in Monroe MI.) playbook, and win a SB with any 10 WP members (not including me, I don't take direction well and I'm not a team player) who know what a football looks like.

But he won't get any credit for it as we're in a weak division. /sarc |
Re: Where does RGIII rank?
RG3 wins rookie of the week again (5th in 11 games). He also won Fed Ex air player of the week for the second time. This kid is stacking up trophy like it's nothing.

Love him or hate him, Wilbon called RG3 the best player in the NFL on PTI today.

I agree with him, right now he's the best all around talent in the league. |

I totally concur. After what I've seen these past 12 games, anyone who knows football has to agree that Robert Griffin III is indeed the best quarterback in the NFL and the best player in the NFL. |
Re: Where does RGIII rank?
i dunno about best in the NFL... manning and brady are still playing. he's definitely amazing though.

Wilbon is an idiot and I haven't liked that dude since 07 when he said some not so nice things about Sean Taylor. But anyhow, how about we just let this 22 year old stud keep doing his thing and stop saying he's Jesus. He's not the best player in the NFL. He sure as hell might be very soon. But not yet. Not comparing the two but Russell Wilson is really playing well too and isn't getting much love from the media. |

I constantly have to remind myself that he has played 12 NFL games. Think about that, 12 games. He is still learning to read NFL defenses on the fly, still learning how his receivers are going to adjust while running routes, still figuring out some of the nuances of the position and still working on the finer points (consistent footwork, manipulating the safety with his eyes) of the QB position. His ceiling is incredible. |

Re: Where does RGIII rank?
So.... I have been listening all week to the talking heads on ESPN radio and Sirius NFL radio and all they have to say is how great Luck is and how he is an MVP candidate and ROY is his. Blah blah blah....
RG III has probably one of the best 2 games in a 5 day period ever (or at least by a rookie), beats two division rivals, completes all but 8? passes, 8 TDs and one pick, how ever many rushing yards, and so on. Monday RG III and the Skins beat the Superbowl Champs. Tuesday and today back to a total Luck love fest. He beat the F*%#n Lions. The Colts record is what it is but the level of difficulty is nothing compared to the teams In the NFC east. Whatever their both great and totally different. RG III is amazing and he is leading his team into maybe what is an amazing season. The talking heads love to point to our running game, but it seems as though they totally forget that having RG III directly relates to what this team does in the running game. He affects everything in our offense. He led us to a top offensive team that the league is afraid of. IF we can pull this off and get into the playoffs I honestly believe that we can win a couple of games based on how unconventional what we are doing is. |

Rational Debbie downer! Wilson is becoming way too much like Skip Bayless now on ESPN. I don't like all them time ESPN spends hyping RG3 either. I know he's good, but let's wait til he wins a playoff game. Also I feel bad for Russel Wilson, really having a great year. |
Re: Where does RGIII rank?
RgIII needs to avg. 71.5 yds. rushing in the last 4 games to reach 1000 yards, I have a gut feeling that he will run another long TD within those 4 games.

RG3 has vaulted the Redskins into the top 5/top 10 in many categories and is the reason why we are winning games. There are many talking heads throwing RG3's name in the MVP consideration. I don't know if he is THE best player in the NFL, but he is certainly among the best. |

He's certainly a big part of it but not the only reason. He gets help from Garcon coming back, Morris... and how about the defense holding NY to 3 second half points. As usual, the QB gets too much credit for winning and too much blame for losing. |

Yeah but if RG3 is out, we don't win. If Wilson doesn't play, the Seahawks lose; the same goes for Luck, Manning, and maybe Brady. |
Re: Where does RGIII rank?
My friend and I were talking the other day and he mentioned how RG3 can be that next Michael Jordan. By that he means a guy whom everyone just loves, even the opposing teams. A guy that will be the clear cut best at his sport. A guy that will be endorsed to no end for years and years.
I can't disagree with that. |

RG3 has 17 pass TD and 4 INT this season. The only rookie in NFL history with a better differential? Dan Marino: 20 TD and 6 INT in 1983 |

We now see why Mike Shanahan was so upset after losing to Carolina. It wasn't because he was packing it in; it's because he saw how good this team could be with Griffin. Look at where the Redskins would be with one more win. I have to applaud what the Skins' offensive coaches have done with Griffin, showing how the spread option and pistol formations can work in the NFL. They've stuck with them, even when they weren't always successful, and RG3 has executed everything well. Contrary to perception, they don't go overboard on options. In the Monday night game against the Giants, the Redskins called only six option plays. But they're often the memorable ones because they yield big chunks of yardage. Combined with the Shanahan running game, the play-action passing game is lethal because of the respect Washington commands running the football. One final note: The maturity I've seen from Griffin, Luck and Wilson is just uncommon. The way they handle the media and their teammates has shown class and character. The way they carry themselves is a testament to their families, colleges and coaches. That is what he said under RG3, not really any reasoning for his position. He said he had Luck over RG3 because Luck has shown the ability to come back from mistakes and still win games (like Eli Manning) |

I know Luck is going to be good, but he is right now a 1:1 td/int middle of the pack passer rating player.
I concur, everyone is hyping Luck because he comes from behind and gets the W... what they forget is the reason he is behind is because he puts them in tough spots, which also forces him to throw the ball more often. Redskins go up by 28 points which means Griffin is not going to need to pass the ball as often. I think going 14/15 for 4 touchdowns is better than anything Luck has done all season. |

I agree. Part of the reason for the come from behind wins is because the INTs have caused the Colts to fall behind in games. Don't get me wrong, I think Luck will be an excellent QB for many years to come -- probably elite. But I don't see how anyone can claim that there's a player more integral to the team's success than RGIII is to ours. I know some defensive players (Watt, Aldon Smith) are having monster seasons, and there are some pretty stellar offensive numbers too (Adrian Peterson, Schaub), but all of thost teams have other major impact players. The closest thing we have is an excellent RB in Morris, but there's no other individual player that teams around the league likely covet (although Garcon may well find himself with that status). RGIII for MVP -- heck, it even rhymes. |

I think Luck could go either way. I see him in the Eli mode more than Peyton. Some years he will be the king of clutch, other times not so much. |
