Ehh, I remember the good ol days when we could not wait for him to get the ball. Oh wait, that was just last season...
Nah, that was Preseason.. lol I like BB, you could see the writing on the wall of a change coming soon at returner. I don't trust Paul on KR though, he has a very small sampling of them and he fumbled once. Fortunately it was called back, bu I honesty bought at that point we were t you g to get that call Glad it ended up saving us today when it looked as though it may have lost us the game! |
re: Goodbye Brandon Banks?
I am glad that Shanahan has given the opportunity to KR/PR as Banks has struggled this season. With Jacoby Jones returning for Baltimore special teams could've been a huge advantage for Baltimore instead we were able to hold our own. Whoever is back there next weekend, I hope they can build on the momentum from this week.

Grant Paulsen @granthpaulsen
Shanny's advice to Banks: "Keep on working. I'm not sure when your next opp. will come. Even if you're working scout team you can help us." |

Niles Paul is a screw up, in general. Except on punt and kick coverage. Oops he got an intereference in punt coverage too. |

well that interference penalty was just a bad call by the referee. |
re: Goodbye Brandon Banks?
That interference call was just awful. In fact, he played it PERFECTLY. He made a mistake on a return, but hes better than Banks. Banks can't pack his bags quick enough. Really sick of seeing screens to ARE.. err Banks. Same thing.

Well being picky, I thought Paul should have stayed in front of Jones. If he does that, he gets the ball that Jones fumbled. |
re: Goodbye Brandon Banks?
Paul does need to work on his hands a bit.

The Redskins played a great game. It was a thrilling hard fought victory. Congrats to Garcon, Cousins, Morris, Forbath, and Crawford.
Paul does need to work on his hands a bit.
Banks has fumbled (and recovered) his fair share of returns too, so Pauls doing the same doesnt concern me... yet. What i like about Paul is he's fast and runs straight - instead of running in circles and sometimes backwards, trying to make something happen. He also has size that can help him potentially break a tackle and get a a few yards after contact. Im ecstatic that, after years of sticking with an inept returner, Danny Smith is finally going with more talented guys, who can help make plays for us. We won the game yesterday because Crawford returned a great punt in OT. Its a very small sample size, but i'm very excited about the possibilities with our return game. |
re: Goodbye Brandon Banks?
I don't trust Niles Paul on kickoffs. Granted fumbles do happen but that fumble yesterday that he committed could have lost us the game. I'm not sure if Crawford's huge punt return marks the end of Brandon Banks, but Mike Shanahan and Danny Smith would be wise to keep Banks for depth purposes.

re: Goodbye Brandon Banks?
What depth? Banks offers nothing
What depth? Banks offers nothing
This. Banks is a preseason superstar. Nothing more. |
re: Goodbye Brandon Banks?
Banks absence from the active roster is a good thing no doubt. Paul shouldn't be allowed to touch the football though, on offense or teams. With Banks out of the picture he's the worst offensive player we have.

re: Goodbye Brandon Banks?
why not crawford for both?...or Santana Moss...he is only a situational slot player now anyways
What depth? Banks offers nothing
Smoot, that may be true. But if Banks is so worthless, then why hasn't Mike Shanahan made a move on him, especially given yesterday's topflight performance on punt returns by Richard Crawford who received a game ball from the head coach? Banks is worth something if very little. If he wasn't Shanahan would have cut Banks like he did with John Beck. |
Can we change the title. Just doesn't sound right
Sounds like an elton john song. Edit: i really lived Mike Nelms as a kid and if i ever go old school on a jersey again it will be Nelms for sure. Double edit: jesus i just saw the original title. Still singing goodbye norma jean but brandon banks instead. |

No rush to cut him or shop him at this point though. |
re: Goodbye Brandon Banks?
I think the Niles Paul experiment will come to an end at the end of this season. He can get open, but what's the point in that if he can't catch the durn ball?
|
Hes a special teams beast. No way he goes.

Dropped passes. Dropped passes drive the coaches crazy. Dropped passes drive the fans crazy. Dropped passes drives everybody crazy. Paul truly needs to hang on to the football. As far as Niles Paul on kickoff returns, I like his burst but it seems his burst isn't always there. I doubt if they take him off of kickoff returns. Like with any player with the football, Paul needs to do a better job of covering the damn football with both hands when there's at least 4 seconds before contact. |
re: Goodbye Brandon Banks?
It's strange. Paul is doing what I expected him to struggle with well. Catching the ball, coming from the WR position, I saw as a given...
|
re: Goodbye Brandon Banks?
Niles Paul can catch the football. Usually when a WR/TE drops a pass, it's because he is lacking focus. Sometimes I laugh when a perfectly thrown pass hits a guy right in the hands for a incomplete pass. Clint Didier, Rick Doc Walker, Don Warren, Stephen Alexander, Jaime Asher, Jean Fugett, Chris Cooley, and certainly not Jerry Smith dropped passes.

Oh I definitely think you keep him on teams, just don't let him see the field on offense or otherwise touch the football. |
re: Goodbye Brandon Banks?
Paul's been targeted 17 times this year, and has caught 9. He's around 52%. Logan Paulsen is 19 for 31, around 61%. So, in terms of stats and %, you wouldn't think Paul is very far behind, but he's dropped a lot of passes that were right in the bread basket. That's not to say the other receivers haven't been guilty of the same thing through.

He can't hold on to it either per his fumbled kick return that we got lucky and got overturned. Apparently he's a decent blocker on the line (supposedly) and awesome on ST. After this year I'd cut Banks and Paul. As we have seen we have another KR and we have Young to run block. Lets find and actual TE who can catch and block. |

I might be way off but if I remember correctly most of Paulsen's were either over throws, dirt balls, or thrown behind him. He usually catches the balls thrown right to him. Usually. Paul on the otherhand seems to drop every pass thrown his way. His catch in the Dallas Thanksgiving day game suprised me. At first I was like Oh we got a man open, then it was like "oh he's bobbled the ball", then I was like "Oh he caught it", then I was like "Oh crap thats Paul.... he actually caught it." |

Maybe he's good part of the time, but several of the big hits on RG especially in the pocket are on Paul. |

I actually would cut him and bring in a kickoff specialist. More value at this point. |

The Redskins need to draft a TE and put Paul back at WR like where he should be. Niles Paul can't even catch a cold. |

re: Goodbye Brandon Banks?
I just never understood Paul's switch to TE. He didn't play TE in college @ Nebraska and he caught only 2 passes from Rex Grossman all last season playing WR. Despite the fact that he had a TD reception against the Dallas Cowboys, the selection to place Paul at TE hasn't helped the team offensively. Even when Paul is in the game, he's supposed to be faster than the LBs covering him, but they manage to stay with him. He's plays like Otis Wonsley on special teams but he truly has NO PLACE in the Redskins offense.

Don't get me started on Polumbus. I mean, you're right. But when protection has broke down on the left side (blindside) it's often been Paul missing a blocking assignment. And sure accidents happen. I know Young missed an assignment that led to RG getting trucked once...it happens. Can't remember the specific game. But with Paul he's missing blocks, dropping passes, doing nothing after the catch unless aside the one TD that was blown coverage. It's pretty bizarre he's on the field apart from special teams. Again, it's a Mike thing, been a Mike thing for a long time with different players/coaches. |
