Re: Redskins Free Agents
A good point was made on Sirius XM NFL Radio the other morning. With the salary cap stagnant, big name players are still going to be outdoing each other for contracts, where is the money going to come from? The middle man of the NFL. Middle tier players aren't going to get the money they got in past years IMO because of this.
There is still not a salary floor teams have to meet. There is plenty of money to go around if teams want to spend it. Next year, there WILL be a floor and I would imagine this should result in pay bumps for alot of the middle tier players. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents
Question: I know some people are saying let Lichtensteiger go and just go with LeRibieus but how did LeRibeous do in his limited action last year? Was he playing at a similar level or better?

He played well enough we could do without Lich, but IMO more OLine means more better. I always like a ton of line depth because linemen can go down, as we've seen in the past, and if you have no depth where are you? In the crapper. |

I hope the FO isn't low balling him, but I also hope that he doesn't think he's worth more than what he is. I guess when free agency starts we'll what he's worth on the open market. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents
either way bottom line we can't afford it... lol, times are gonna get hard.

Re: Redskins Free Agents
We must give Alexander the salary he deserves. With him, Doughty, and Forbath, we had it made on special teams last season.

How much do you give a 30 year old backup LB? His last deal was 3 yrs $3.8M. I can't see topping that by very much. With our cap situation the bottom line is some tough choices will have to be made. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents
special teamers that don't score TDs don't get big money. i don't know why people think he should be getting 2M+ a year.

As Redskins fans we know how valuable LA is as a special-teamer and team leader. He can also sub in at many different positions and is a positive force in the community. But other teams won't see all that, they'll just see a 30-yr old special-teamer/backup LB. In other words, it's very likely no other team will value LA as highly as the Redskins and their fans do. |

Still, nobody is going to break the bank on him, I think he'll stay as long as he gets a deal similar to his last one with a decent bump. |

I can see a division rival wanting a pissed-off ST standout.

Easy to see why you didnt last round here. We have zero cap room but hoped we can sign the most sought-after secondary free agent. We dont have a 1st Round pick but I hope we draft Dee Milliner |

I didn't realize that it was the policy for suspended players. I doubt our plans to find safeties would change but it does give us an alternative option if the plan A backfires. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents
Couple of points on Zo I don't think wherever he goes he would be pissed off at the Redskins and definately not the fans.
Also the Steelers and the Giants will not over pay for Zo either. |

Yeah look at Atlanta, they just opened up $18 mil in cap space by cutting three guys. Anything is possible, but just like a gothic kid that listens to Hawthorne Heights, it depends how deep you want to cut. |

Yeah, but those 3 guys were some of their best. Like you said, it depends how deep you want to cut. I hope the Redskins aren't forced to dig that deep. |

What else are the Skins going to do? Restructuring contracts is nothing more than a band aid that leads to future cap problems. My guess is that the Skins, at a minimum, will cut DHall ($7.5M), Santana Moss ($3.7M), and Adam Carriker ($2.2M) and let London Fletcher retire ($2.7M), thus saving $16.1M against the cap. |

I disagree with that. Abraham is older and is not playing with as much disruption as he used to. Michael "The Burner" Turner lost his middle name. He is slow and not very productive now. Daunta Robinson is 30 and is third best on the team behind Brent Grimes (who they are trying to resign) and Asante Samuel. They are by far not the best players on their team. |

Re: Redskins Free Agents
Couple of thoughts, not worth a new thread, but things I am thinking as a Skins fan:
I would think that there has to be some Skins news today or tomorrow. Between having to be under the cap, and the new pre FA agent-team talking, the FO has to have a slew of moves they will be announcing in a brief span. And this has to have been one of the quietest lead up to FA by a Skins FO since DS has owned the team. I think that is a good thing, but certainly the penalty has kept us out of the spotlight too. FA starts in 5 days and it seems like any court action (re:penalty) is now extremely unlikely. I would love to be a fly on the wall in BA's office for the next few days! |

Re: Redskins Free Agents
Per NFL.com we plan on retaining Davis
|
Re: Redskins Free Agents
We have to keep Davis. I just fear that another team, like Cleveland, will pay him more than we can. If I'm Davis I'm going where the money is. Can anyone blame him?
|
Re: Redskins Free Agents
If Davis wants to chase the money let him.
If he's at all interested in winning Cleveland would be one of the last spots to pick. In the end I think he stays here. |

Testing the market. He and Matty couldn't come to a long term deal and Matty didn't want to tag him, so he's been in negotiations with HogsHaven. ExtremeSkins is pursuing him too and is willing to pay, but SS is saying its not just about the money. Yeah, right. |
