Same, It's a stop gap I rather Winfield but this has to be the writing on the wall he is not coming.

I thought it was an April Fools joke last night but I have the whatever thing, I just find it funny that some people say that Hall is more important than Rak is. As far as that 4 int game every pass outside of the TD return (which was late and off Cutler's back foot) were thrown right to Hall.
Yeah, gotta disagree on Rak. In coverage and space obviously he is just god aweful. But up on the line he is a force. Just hope he can stay healthy a full year.

But your saying, f*ck the cowbell, you need more D Hall!
So in other words, Brian Orakpo is one dimensional and needs improvement. We're on the same page.

At least Hall has age on his side vs Winfield. You never know when a guy is going to drop off a cliff and Winfield is definitely playing on borrowed time. Still think he's the better player but I guess it's time to move on.

But if that was Patrick Peterson with 4 ints he would be an all pro.. hall is what he is a solid corner that is our best option ATM.
So basically according to your standards, only players that create turnovers and make extreme game changing plays like defensive touchdowns are worth anything on a defense?

So Hall is better than...

J.J. Watt
Geno Atkins
NaVorro Bowman
Justin Smith
Cameron Wake
or even Chris Long?

If defensive players were rated only by interceptions, touchdowns, and huge plays I guess these players would not be very valuable then... Orakpo isn't the greatest defender/outside linebacker in the NFL, but I have seen what happens when he is out of the lineup. I would take Orakpo over Hall any day of the week.
Jesus, man. Did I say that? I'm not even suggesting that. That said, it's a joke that you've mentioned Rak in the same breath as J.J. Watt and Justin Smith...or Cameron Wake.

I think Orakpo is a very good defensive player with superstar potential. But he hasn't reached stud status in my opinion.

Neither has Hall.

How about we move on from these useless comparisons?

Rak is good but health not a top level pass rusher, I hope he has a break out year this season.

Nope, I would say he had a good game but if all four passes were thrown directly to him like he was the WR running the route I would say it was a bit flukey.

Totally agree.

I think the resurgence of the D line and LB corp will help the secondary. After the lost of Carriker and Rak it took awhile for us to adjust but by the end of the season our D was clicking. With those two coming back we can only be stronger.

We had a good team last year everyone is back sans LA. That is a GOOD thing. Ever have a new guy in the office? Takes awhile to get them up to speed; our group has been together now for awhile should be clicking on all cylinders next year.
if winfield wants a superbowl now, denver's the place. maybe we were seeing the writing on the wall, or we didn't want to wait and Dhall lowered his price.

either way, if we got him on a 1 year deal for 3.5M or less, it's good. we'll need to find a starter in the draft or FA next year... but all things considered we've done alright this offseason.
Winfield is still considering staying in Minnesota and we've been going hard after him. If he wanted to sign here, he would have by now. We cannot wait any longer to get that CB spot filled. It needed to be done before the draft unless we're willing sand able to get a sure starter in the 2nd round.

Even if we still sign Winfield or score in the draft at CB, Hall is still a good option at FS or nickel...perhaps better suited at one of those than at starting CB at this point in his career.

Good move if we were able to get him at a reduced price. I was hoping for a bigger upgrade but we probably can't afford it. The one thing we CAN'T afford is going into this season with any of the secondary spots being weaker than last season. We'll never make the next step into Super Bowl contender until we get this secondary fixed. At least we've improved our reserve CB situation with E.J. Biggers, who should be better than anyone we had last season coming off the bench. Hopefully Minnifield can make it onto the field too.

Hall is worth something... and I've softened my stance on him a little. But he isn't worth what we were going to have to pay him by any fantastical stretch of the imagination. Now I assume he's somewhat of a bargain for us.

I think the answer he was looking for was our pass rush was non-existent at times.

It affected Kerrigan's effectiveness for sure. Usually, Orakpo and Kerrigan both warrant double-teams (or holds) so one of them usually has a path to the backfield because it's impossible to double two guys at once. When Orakpo was missing, Kerrigan was neutralized most of the time by the opponents.

We'll see the dominant rookie year version of Kerrigan back if Orakpo is on the field.

We went from owing him $7.5 million in 2013 to paying him $2.25 million.

Oh great! I don't know who I can't stand worse, Hall himself or his rabid fans. I'm a huge VA Tech fan, but never been a huge fan of Hall. Yet, I don't have as much content for the guy as others (maybe it's because he is a VA Tech Alumni) so I'm neither happy nor sad over the news of re-signing the man. It's for less money, I'm sure, so at least we're now paying for what we know we can get out of the man. At this point, he's just a stop gap.

Hey, look on the bright side. At least this is taking some of the scrutiny off Josh Wilson. People based him for some of his plays last year. There is a silver lining in everything.

I'm glad that DHall is back although I am not a DHall lover. Having him in the fold allows us greater flexibility to draft for value rather than need.

Agreed. He's a known commodity and is familiar withe the scheme. Draft his replacement and have him mentor (or at least be an example of what NOT to do).

I thought DHall played his best ball since he's been here the last half of the season. I want to see that player next year, not one that does stupid shit that hurts his team. He is what he is, he's going to give up some plays but he's going to make some too. It would also help if we had better safety play too. But I didn't see any better options out there.

Our entire secondary desperately needs better players at the safety position. Hopefully a healthy Merriweather would make a difference, and I'd like to see more of the Hall from the latter part of the season.

Without Google, I remember Dallas' inability to block Orakpo without clothes-lining him was flagged and cancelled out a last-second winning TD against us. Don't say Orakpo's dominance did not cause that game-clinching mistake by Dallas. It's not as flashy as a Pick-6, but it's still a game-changing performance.

Now if the refs would actually make that call for Orakpo consistently, he'd crush the single-season sack record, or just 'Rak up crippling penalty yardage for our opponents.

I'm a pretty big fan of the FO right now. Re-signing all our guys is impressive. I think the Tana and Hall re-signings are most important.

DeAngelo Hall, DB for the Washington Redskins at NFL.com

If he can get back to 6 INTs this season it's a great signing and actually a bargain for the team, but it'll have everything to do with who's at FS.

Orakpo should of been traded 2yrs ago. His worth is marginally above R. Jackson. The skins could have saved a draft pick on the draft swap last year if Orakpo had been healthy and tradable.
