That theory only holds water as far as Niles Paul, and B Banks before that. What, are you telling us Paul forgets how to catch, run routes and block every game but does it to perfection on the weekdays? C'mon man.

You could make the argument Shanny rewards "potential" but even that has exceptions.
Niles Paul is basically third string. He hasn't even beat out Paulsen for the position. They had him at 3rd string for his potential, not because he was a polished product. That is what you are supposed to do with guys with high upsides. Also, Paul plays special teams, Cooley does not.
All good points my man. The flip-side is Davis is returning from injury and has an otherwise checkered past. Maybe it's just me, but I don't trust Davis to be "there" consistently. And I'm a big fan of Lunch Pale Logan, but my whole point is behind him we basically have nothing for TE. It's a tough sitz to be sure, but adding a quality TE not only gives us security against Davis' injury/suspension concerns, but it also gives us leverage in negotiations with him next year, and he's already shown he's going wherever he gets the biggest paycheck.

For those wringing their hands about our WR corp, I would say TE is yet a bigger concern, behind FS and RT.
But the same logic can be applied to the WR position with the expiring contracts next year (Moss and Morgan), and concerns of Garcon's foot this year.

Throw in that its also possible for a 3rd string TE (whether that be a rookie or Cooley) to never get on the field except special teams and be a decent sized drop from Paul on special teams. We could actually get worse since Paul has shown something there. Hes not the best at catching, but definitely gives it up as a gunner.

I still think we only take a TE if its BPA. Give me a solid RT in the draft, and we can use Polumbus as the number 3 blocking TE for all I care.

Nothing at TE? Exaggerate much?
You failed! To recognize they didn't work Cooley into the gameplan. He made the most out of his one opportunity.

LOL. I bet Shanny drafts a TE. We need someone behind Davis and Paulsen.
I didn't fail to recognize anything. I'm sure the coaches gave Cooley a chance in practice as well in a few games. If he is not performing in practice the coaches will not give him the time on the field. I was one of the guys who thought Cooley still could play but he has proven me wrong. There is a reason no one was knocking at his door when he was sitting at home. I'd love if he could prove me wrong but I don't think it will happen.

As far as I am concerned, anyone with eyes last year saw that Cooley was done. Period. Scheme and "chances" had nothing to do with it. I'm a Cooley fan...but stick a fork in him.

We need to move on from the mindset of the Vinny Cerrato era where we'd cling to aging vets like Brian Kozlowski and Todd Yoder out of nostalgia and loyalty over what's good for the team's future.

I don't know what you're referring to per se, but if it was my comment that behind Paulsen we don't have anything solid at TE beyond this season...you're gdamn right I said it :)

good stuff; Cooleys one of my all time favorite Redskins. I'm glad we had him for so many years reping the B&G.

How many teams (other than NE) actually have a solid 3rd-string TE?

TE is not an urgent area of need. I don't think we should use a draft pick on a TE in the first 6 rounds with much more pressing needs at other positions.

I'm expecting Shanallen to wheel and deal and get us MINIMUM 10 picks by the end of the draft...maybe a dozen, similar to 2011 when they boosted the number of picks from 6 to 12 by the end.

What teams are loaded at 3rd string TE?

Between Paulsen, Davis, and Paul, we're loaded. IMO hopefully Davis will avoid suspension. Paulsen is a decent blocker and traditional TE reciever not the modern "WR playing TE" guy. Paul is so fast and hustles so much on special teams, if he had hands and ran routes better he'd be our best pass catcher hands down!

And I thought you knew football Lotus. CC will make All Pro this year! (At something..not sure what.) And as far as those who criticize him for chasing women...I.applaud him for that. Just part of his strenuous workout regiment.

I'm a big Cooley fan, but honestly I don't think it is a big deal if he is on the team or off the team. Personally, I don't think he's the 50 year old TE people make him out to be and it's not like we need an all-pro at the third string TE position. Likewise, I don't think it will be the end of the world if he is not on the team. Honestly, I don't know why people get all riled up at for either situation.

Hey, I know football. It is my unique idea that we should trade RGIII for Tebow. Super Bowl!

Bam! Just like that you restored my faith in you! I have some s*** on ebay I'd like to sell you my friend! :) Actually I think Ruhskins pretty much nailed it. Personally I think he has something left to offer...I get my eyes checked in 3 weeks...but it's not gonna make or break the team either way.

I love Cooley and would like to see him get another full training camp with us before they shut the door but also would not hurt my feelings to see him sign a one day contract and retire a skin for life.
