That Rolando news is the most surprising today. It is by far the most surprising NFL news I've heard in a while. Like NFLdraftscout said today, the last thing this guy needs is more free time.

A shame that his knee hasn't gotten better. I love some David Garrard. Great player here at ECU, and his family is still back here. @AdamSchein Text from Garrard: "Having to call it quits. My knee is not holding up. Continuing to swell after practices. Limiting what I can do." |

bizarro world. Him and Titus Young should get together and hang
He retired 3 years ago, he's just getting around to announcing it. |

Rolando McClain Contract Details: Five-years, $40 Million | Football News Now
These two examples right here at why the NFL needed a rookie pay scale. Rolando made at least 23 mil with the Raiders and Hey Ward Bey signed a contract very similar the year before. I know the Raiders should have drafted safer players but still that is a heavy fine for picking wrong. That is one reason why it has been hard for teams to get out if the first ten picks. Jacksonville, Detroit, Oakland, and the Browns seem to draft from those spots on a pretty consistent basis. |
Re: NFL News Offseason Style
rolando is in idiot (i think)... if he's on the roster for 3 games in his 4th NFL season, he'd be a fully vested veteran that would pull 1,300 a week starting at age 55 (and adjusted upward for inflation) and get 2/1 matching on 401k contributions.
he quit 3 games too early... |

Re: NFL News Offseason Style
So the Raiders have signed Chris Kluwe apparently
Rotoworld says the Redskins are interested in Hightower apparently, as are the Giants. I'm not really sure about what the Redskins interest is And in what I think is maybe the most interesting news of the week, the Vikings are moving Joe Webb to WR |

I saw this the other day on ESPN and just stumbled on it again. Sorry if it has already been posted. Oh that tricky Andy Reid.

He was good for us, but, we have Helu, Royster, Chris Thompson, Jawan Jamison, and Alfred. We don't need an older back that can't stay healthy, taking away reps from these younger backs. No surprise from Webb. He sucked at QB (except against us a few years ago). |

Smoot's boy Sanchez getting ripped on by Smitty. :(
Wow
I said all along that the players got robbed in this CBA. I really am surprised more players didn't see that and question it early on. Now, of course, they are stuck coming up with patch after patch. Wonder if the players ever get tired of it. |

Andy should put Dexter McCluster in as QB for this scheme.
Well Smith don't have blazing speed but he definitely can run. I think Smith will do well in pistol formations, all he needs is to run to 1st down marker or more if opportunities present. |

bizarro world. Him and Titus Young should get together and hang
At first when I saw that he was doing it to get my life in order I thought it was the dumbest possible thing he could do. Millions of dollars in the bank and nothing but free time is a recipe for disaster. However then I realized that if he's going into rehab for addiction to alcohol and/or drugs it's actually brilliant. So on that note has anyone seen anything to suggest that this is the case? |
Re: NFL News Offseason Style
He could run when he was like 25 now he's 30 or older
The speed is not a problem with Smith, IMO. He lost a step but he still runs with smooth motion, compared to Manning or Brady. In the pistol, I think the motion is vital, compared to speed. If you run smoothly, you will run little faster. Even a split sec matters. Say, your team got into 4 down and 1 yard and you must get to first down or you lose the game. With the pistol, defense have to focus on entire players except for Oline plus QB. Hard to cover everybody in that situation unless you know what is coming. This is not to say speed isn't important, but in this situation with Smith, I think it's an exception. As long you don't run the plays too often. |

Probably a reason why he had such a down season last year. Mario Williams is just a good ole country boy from Richlands, NC. I'm not sure fame/fortune is really his thing. I've seen some of his facebook photos where he's out four wheeling in mud with the guys. I think that says a lot about his nature. Not many people like to roll deep into mud. Found this gem.
