1. They should fight it now -- but what they are doing is not fighting the law. Nothing they are doing will, or even can, effect any change in the law's long term effect. NOTHING. A one year delay? The adverse effects of this bill will be 10 years in the making. Further, they aren't seeking any fundamental change in the bad things underpinning the law. There is absolutely nothing they are doing that has any beneficial effect on health care in America.

They have no alternative. They propose no fundamental changes. They don't even pretend to have a plan. It's simply harm for harm's sake at this point.

The Rep. have presented several option to change health ins over the years but had the door shut in thier face by Obama. If all they can get is a one year delay thats a start. If its law as you say how come Obama has had the pleasure of delaying parts of the bill that are law. You can't have it both ways.

Really? Several options? Did they ever present a comprehensive alternative to Obamacare or just a "This is bad, don't vote for it" solution? They were asked for a comprehensive alternative when this thing first came up and failed to present one. Since then, their "proposals" have been about nit-picking an existing law. As to the delay, Obama is playing politics too. Only much more astutely - with a specific goal in mind (delay certain costs until after the next election) and in a manner that is not destructive to the Country's over all economic health.

We have to just disagree on the first bold area. On the second Obama is dlaying what he knows is going to be an economic kick in the balls when its done. Why do you think so many companies are hiring so many part time workers. They are scared of the real cost of Obama care so they stop hiring full time employees even on a greater scale then before.
How many companies are at around 45 to 49 employees just not hiring anyone else so they don't have to conform to the new Obama care.

As to the benefit it creats I don't know other then another year to maybe find the votes to overturn the bill. At worst it delays a bad law another year.

Ok this sounds like a great story. He was paying $12,000 a yr for health insurance and now will pay nothing under OC. Who the hell is picking up that tab and how can a person go from paying that much to nothing? Tax payers bend over its coming.

The individual mandate may be "the cornerstone of Obamacare", but it is not and never was the ultimate problem with the ACA and the Republicans failure to grasp this issue is what prevented them from "fixing" healthcare (the failure to grasp being mainly among the Tea Party and their attacks on the Constitutionality of the act). All the individual mandate does - w/out any fundamental changes to the pricing model - is pour gas on an open fire.

An individual mandate with real healthcare reform [I]should[/I] actually lower costs by capturing the multitude of young single people who would otherwise not purchase insurance and spreading the cost of care (which needed to be addressed separately).

I do not "agree to disagree" with you. You are wrong. Period. For me to accept the "agree to disagree" cop out, you have to show me an alternative a comprehensive healthcare reform plan presented by the Republicans as a counter to the ACA. There is no such plan and to "agree to disagree" that there is one is intellectually lazy. You are wrong. If you want to change the ACA, fine. Take legislative action. But neither shutting down the government nor offering a partial payment scheme achieve that goal.

So proceed with a bad law just because it has been made a law, despite the number of jobs it's costing and more people are LOSING coverage than gaining it because of the legal requirements placed on employers and individuals alike, the fact that the Congressional Budget Office says it's costing 4 times the projected amount and will bankrupt the country, the fact that people's rate are tripling after being told it would decrease or cost nothing, it's driving many doctors to retire rather than deal with it, it's own authors admit it's a failure, the people who passed it are too afraid to live under it themselves and exempt not only themselves and their corporate friends and donors...and the list is endless?

The fact that someone is fighting this and not backing down gives our country a chance to actually survive it.

At minimum, the whole thing should be delayed until everything is actually in place to implement it. They've had three years already, but this debacle was not ready to be rolled out.

If you want a budget passed, blame goes solely on the Senate Democrats and President. They have not passed one since Obama has been President and we're heading into year #6. There's absolutely no excuse, the Democrats held the White House and BOTH houses of Congress for 2 years and still did not pass a budget.

That alone should be an impeachable offense, not performing the most important job duty they're required to do.

Lay off the vacations and parties and do your job, Mr. President and Senator Reid.

Its also funny Obama and company has removed and delayed several parts of this bill so its not like the Rep are asking for anything they have not already done. Funny they jump on fox for reporting about the Museum and then they add the highlighted part. The shutdown had nothing to do with the closure of the WW II Memorail and was only done because Whitehouse ordered it to be done. They tried stopping WW II vets who flew out to see the Memorial but they pushed the steel barriers (ones that had to be added to shut down the memorail) and went on anyways.

Although I overall dislike European parliamentry style government, and I like the way our government stability and newness is created through the 1/3 turnover Senate, all the House every 2 years, it is times like these that I wish there was a mechanism that would allow for public referendums, either on legislative acts, the ACA, or where we could put the whole House and Senate up for election at once, possibly Presidency as well.

The government has become fairly dysfunctional, and this shutdown is just the latest in a long line of examples. In my opinion, it would be a great day if we could tell all 536 of them, your services are no longer required, and you are ineligible to run for federal office again. and even better if we could disband the Republican and Democratic parties and force a restart from a new class of politicians.

I was going to post this story on the media thread, but this works as well. I somewhat understand when a China media source ran with a Onion story, but Fox News running with a story from a satirical site? It's no surprise most of their viewers are ignorant about a great deal of subjects.

Thanks for handling business. Most American people still are clueless about Obamacare, they've just been told by their media that it's bad so that's what they are parroting.

I assure you there is a reason no budget has been passed, and it's not the Democrats or the President(not that they are any better). The Tea Party is a huge reason because they simply will not compromise at all. It's either give into their demands or they'll shut it down. It's been their MO for a while now, and they certainly are happy about it. The reason you can't get these asshats out of Congress is because of gerrymandering. Redesign their districts so they'll never lose another election. Hey, if you can't win fair and square...cheat.
