Re: Skins Viks Postgame
Yeah the refs missed every penalty that should've been called on the Vikings, that said our guys are idiots for that after the whistle crap. In fact it cost us a couple of scores possibly.
We lost be cause our D didn't show and we stopped running the ball......but.....
Was the officiating as bad as I thought? I constantly felt like we were getting screwed.
Yeah, started with that "helmet to helmet" hit on Ponder early in the game. What a phantom call...looked like a legal hit on the QB as he let the ball go. But the refs didn't decide this game... |
Re: Skins Viks Postgame
Better on Thursday night than Sunday morning, I feel like all of us who are on the cliff will back away by Sunday and enjoy our day. I want the other teams in our division to lose, but I won't be watching and getting upset.
Its been all down hill after the Ravens game last year, when RGIII's knee whipped like it did, even though we kept winning, in hindsight that was the end. Took our O too long to get going, and with our defense we have, we need them every second of every game. I hope RGIII makes it through this year healthy, keeps working out his leg in the off season, comes back with no brace next year and we just kill it. For the Shanny's they better hope so, its their 5th year. |
Re: Skins Viks Postgame
Ok so in a battle of a couple of the worst defenses in the league, the least worst wins. :)
I honestly can't figure this team out. They are the epitome of inconsistency. Poor first halves and pretty good second halves early on. Now it is pretty good first halves and poor second halves of late. I feel like I'm being strung along "so you say there's a chance". No, I no longer say there's a chance. I think the NYG have a better chance than we do, but this is likely the Cowboy's division this year. Uggghhh.... But, ALF is a beast. Let's get an O-line that can pass protect and some defense... |
Re: Skins Viks Postgame
Guys we never stopped running.
Defense blew it today. |
Re: Skins Viks Postgame
That sucked.
But in all fairness, both Reed and Garcon miss catches that put this into overtime. Our offense fizzled at halftime, but our D is who lost this game. RG3 had 3 TDs and almost 300yds, Morris / Garcon >100 yds --> we need a better defense to keep us in games. Fletch is too old, our Dlinemen are getting no pressure, and our secondary is wilting. |
Re: Skins Viks Postgame
We did never stop running, but its the timing of the calls thay kill us.the most... great job of running down the field in the 4league min drill... bad job of calling a fade on fourth and goal to a 5'8 WR... wen u have 5a other weapons, just bad and inexusable
|

He would have made the play without the penalty, which shockingly the refs missed. I don't fault Reed for that, should've been 1st and goal at the 1. |
Re: Skins Viks Postgame
I went and grabbed another beer and finished venting, my conclusion is this year wasn't our year, my new goal for the rest of the season is to keep RGIII healthy, and keep giving him reps for the next 7 games.
Our O with a healthy RGIII, Garcon, Reed, and some new linemen via free agency/draft will be nice. I think we'll have an elite offense again next year. The D, if we can just get to mediocre, we can do some winning. To all the in game thread people, sorry for being 90% negative, but damn if this team isn't so frustrating. |

Re: Skins Viks Postgame
As a side bar this weeks episode of Big Bang Theory was awesome, and Kaley Cuoco is unbelievably hot.
I like to assume she's a Skins fan. Hail!!!! Band of brothers and sisters in this thread. Go Skins! We're gonna get there soon. |
Re: Skins Viks Postgame
did amerson play tonight?
|
Re: Skins Viks Postgame
Viking weren't supposed to score that much ...what happened ?
|
Our D was awful. Flat out awful. Ponder looked like Peyton, and Cassel moved the ball, efficiently too. We have a dreadful front 7 save Kerrigan. No push from the front 3 at all. None. Terrible ILB play - Riley has fallen off the map and Fletcher should be coaching , not playing. But the O stunk it up in the second half. No protection and horrifically bad play calling by Kyle who clearly isn't getting it done. Bad coaching, pathetic special teams, terrible tackling. This team is done for the year, and it really pains me to say so. They played with no heart. The team that wanted it more own tonight. Alfmo is the only one who came to play. RGIII was not sharp in the second half at all.
This season has had more kick in the crotch games than any other Redskins season I can recall since 1974. Because we know there is ability here - we could be explosive and even on D we have had some good individual efforts (DHall comes to mind). I found this to be as disheartening a loss as I can remember - like the loss to the Lions when they hadn't won in over a year. Last year, I didn't lose hope when we were 3-6. Now, forget it. We will be lucky to get 6 wins. Very lucky. I can't believe it. So depressed. |
Re: Skins Viks Postgame
very disappointing to say the least. our D would suck a LOT less if our special teams wasn't so historically awful though. we're always starting at the 15, they're always starting at the 35. that means they're literally twice as likely to score as we are based on NFL averages.
it's costing us games, and i want to see heads roll for it, but i have no idea how to get it fixed without an offseason :/. |
Re: Skins Viks Postgame
I'm not the biggest shanahan supporter but he at least deserves to play out this season. Obviously if this team shows no improvement from now until the end of the year he needs to go, but let us see what happens for the rest of the season.
That being said the offense didnt play well the second half, specifically the offensive line. The defense was terrible the entire game. What happened to the front 7? The first half especially AP ran pretty well and there was no pass rush. Orakpo and Kerrigan and their play might be the most disappointing aspect to this football game to me. It's scary for me to think that the best part of this defense is the secondary. |
Re: Skins Viks Postgame
The o played good except for running that final corner fade to the shortest WR on the team. Overall they scored enough to win. The d just isn't very good. Hopefully this organization doesn't panic at the end of the year and start up the coaching revolving door.
|
Re: Skins Viks Postgame
If there was a more disappointing 2nd half to a Skins game I must've blocked it from my memory.
|
Re: Skins Viks Postgame
In all honesty, I haven't felt this bad after a game since the Buffalo game after Sean Taylors murder.
|
Re: Skins Viks Postgame
I think what made no sense to me was not giving Morris another shot on the one yard line. Run and then two passes. That came back to haunt us. Wtf was that all about Kyle? You idiot!
I know everyone is on Haslett but to be fair he just doesn't have the players. Fletch is just terrible, Merriweather has been cut twice and we saw why last night. Rak and Kerrigan? Just average players IMO. There's a reason we have the 30 th ranked D. Can anyone collapse the pocket like Minn did to us? If they don't give the ball back to the offense a few times or score they're the worst d in the league. The 3-4 has been a failure and that goes on the head man. On a positive, Morris is just an animal. I'd like to see him on the field on 3rd down and give him a few screens. RG3 also played very well for most of the game. He was getting out quickly and was accurate. He's getting into a groove. He missed a few as well but way more good than bad. A few times he just had no chance cause his line got pushed back like they were on skates. |
Re: Skins Viks Postgame
Is it me or did we just not even attempt to blitz?

Moss needed to drag his foot and it's a TD. I can't blame the call there, I blame Moss. RG3 put it on his hands, it's the wr's job to make the play. |
Re: Skins Viks Postgame
He'll w had 1st and goal from the 8 in four down territory. We could have run it twice and thrown it twice. Moss was inches from tying the game even though it was questionable why we didn't try that fade to garçon or reed.
I don't totally hate this team or even the play calling, but when you have been sacked twice in a row you don't run another play action pass. Get this team a defense and they can compete with anyone. |
Re: Skins Viks Postgame
If we scored a TD on our first trip down to the one we are kicking a FG on 4th down last night to tie the game.
Woulda coulda shoulda. Oh well |
Re: Skins Viks Postgame
Our defense and special teams are beyond horrible
|
Re: Skins Viks Postgame
When is washington gonna say enough is enough with London Fletcher and pull the plug?

Re: Skins Viks Postgame
To finish the year...
Fire everyone with last name shanahan. Interim HC Raheem. Offseason... Fire Haslett. Promote Raheem to DC and return to 4-3 defense. Get DL to get pressure since rakpo can't Get Safeties thru draft to compete with '13 class. Make Riley the lone MLB and retire London Find HC and OC who likes the weapons on offense, big salary cap, practice bubble, training camp in VA Shouldn't be too hard, right? |

KYLE AND OR MIKE OR WHOEVER IS CALLING THAT FUCKING ABOMINATION OF A LOSING OF A GAME SHITTY RESULTS ALL SEASON OF A PLAY!!!!!!!!!!!!
At least I got 45.84 fantasy points with Griffin and Reed. Have to agree. That call stinks. A fade to Reed or Hankerson who is over 6 feet would have been better but a QB draw or anything else would have been better. The Vikings defense blew up Chris Chester last night and a 3rd round pick in Liberius can't even help that situation because Liberius is a bust. The difference in Liberius and Jordan Reed both 3rd round picks is staggering. Did someone in the draft room not hear it right when someone said "anyone but Liberius" and thought they said "the only one we want is Liberius"?? |

Can't believe anyone w/half a brain would put this loss on Kyle. The D gave up 34 pts on 50 plays! Vikes scored on 6 of 8 drives! Please. |
Re: Skins Viks Postgame
That last play to Moss should have never been necessary. That said, I thought the play call was fine but Griff put (had to put)? a little too much air on it. I don't think the intention was a fade but a simple corner route

I know people hate Kyle, but it's crazy how people are pointing fingers at the offense for this. We made Ponder look like a legit QB for crying out loud. Coming into that game the Vikings were near the bottom of the league in total offense and middle of the pack in points per game. 34 points matched their highest ouput in a game this season. The offense didn't blow a 27-14 3rd quarter lead. |
Re: Skins Viks Postgame
Didn't see it mentioned, but that was Garcon's first back to back 100 yd games as a Skin.

Re: Skins Viks Postgame
Off season free agents and draft . O line , defence and special teams. Let the young player get reps . Say thanks to Moss and Fletcher but were moving on with youth.

Its like we forget when the offense would really struggle to score 21 points. If you can't beat a 1 win team with 27 points you probably don't deserve to win any games. At one point last night Ponder had completed 10 straight passes. Christian Ponder. Who lost his job to Matt Cassell. The same Matt Cassell that lost his job to Josh Freeman. Who was released by a winless team. Yeah, that Christian Ponder. The bigger picture is not Kyle or even that we 'lost' but that we lost to a 1 win team, missing 4 starters, who didn't even have enough healthy players to complete the MINIMUM roster requirements for an NFL game. That's staggering. The fact we built a 13 point second half lead isn't impressive, we should have done that. The bottom line is, we lack the talent and discipline to be anything but a 3-6 team. Forget the calls the refs missed. 3 personal fouls, all led to touchdowns. That's on the players and coaches for not coaching the selfishness out of the players. The fake punt debacle, that's what bad teams do in the preseason, not November. I've been a Shanahan guy but I'm really about ready to pull the plug and let someone else take over. Great pieces on both sides of the ball in Griffin, Morris, Garcon, Reed, T. Williams, Cofield, Kerrigan and I think Amerson. Solid pieces in plenty of other spots but it's time to move on last year's streak and really evaluate the roster for what it is. |

What about the misread and throwing to the actual open receiver Garcon on the square in for the TD? So question, was it the play design or the execution? Because who in their right mind throws a fade to the smallest receiver in the end zone or who puts their smallest receiver on that route to be thrown too? Poor. These are the small things that cost dumb teams. That being said, because of we like to finger point the defense more responsible for the loss. Pathetic to let ponder have a game like that. |
Re: Skins Viks Postgame
Unfortunately this game turned out just as I thought it would:
http://www.thewarpath.net/redskins-locker-room/55060-minnesota-game-predictions-3.html#post1038802 You cant blame special teams for losing the game for us,that was an all around effort, but I said it would probably come down to who won the special teams battle and it did. There was the fake punt that got the 5 yard penalty, then the 15 yarder on the punt which gave the ball to Minnesota with 41 yards to go,TD Vikings. Then Rocca with a 33 yard punt to give the Vikes another short field at the 50,another Vikings td. Its time for Rocca to go,he's just too inconsistant,he's good for at least 1 bad punt a game. If this regime doesnt get a new punter next yr it just shows their incompetence. Forbath cant kick it in the endzone,so we need to find a punter that can kickoff and punt. |

Look back at the defensive rankings of all of Jim Haslett's defenses over the years - including what he has done in Washington. Not very good. He's just not that great of a coach. I think at the time, he was maybe the best option this franchise had to choose from, but he's not the defensive mastermind the 'skins need to make it all work. You don't have to have a defense full of pro bowlers to have the defense playing well. You just need to know what pieces you have and figure out what scheme works the best. A great coach, even just a good coach, knows how to bring out the best in the players he has to work with. He knows how to work to their strengths, hide their weaknesses, get them playing consistently to those strengths, and enjoy some level of success even if, at best, it's middle of the road. That's why Richie Petitbon was considered a defensive mastermind. He didn't have the best players on his defenses throughout the years, but he made it work. Yes, we can look back and see guys like Charles Mann, Dexter Manley, Darrell Green and say those guys were great - but look at all of the guys that came in and out of the line up during the Petitbon era. He know how to bring out the best in his players, what formations work the best with which personnel, and most importantly - he knew how to make halftime adjustments. We do not have that in one Jim Haslett. We have a guy who knows defenses, and probably has tried his best to work to his players strengths, but he isn't talent enough to make it work well enough when the players aren't all pro bowl players. |

I'm really tired of this excuse and it's factually incorrect. At the end of the day, we're out 3 player (2nd in 2012, 1st in '13 & '14). While significant because of the round, it's not like we are missing out on half a draft class each year as a result of the trade. The cap penalty is far more damaging than the draft picks, but then again, it's all Redskins chickens coming home to roost from past bad decisions and being in position for the league to bend them over for it. |
