Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach (Volume 2)
Just because Briles is a college coach. Doesn't mean he is going to bring his offense to the NFL. It's more of a philosophy than the offense itself.
Chip Kelly and Harbaugh both don't run the same offenses they did in college. Only reason I wouldn't want Briles here is because people will be flooding RG3 with questions in the off season about how much influence he has on the franchise, blah blah blah. When everyone knows he's probably the ONLY way we get Briles in Washington. Even though Briles is well deserving of his shot in the NFL. |

If you win 2 super bowls, chances are you can coach. NOW, picking good staff and players as a GM is a bit different. |

EARTHQUAKE2689. I heard he is pretty good. Led LSU to 4 straight National Titles in NCAA 14.

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach (Volume 2)
Smoot, is there any indication that the candidates named to potentially replace Mike are Snyder’s choices alone? Or have the likes of Bruce/Morocco Brown been the ones firmly in charge of this process?
Also, anything more on Hue Jackson and Ken Whisenhunt? I remember you mentioned the former as a potential staff hire in the previous thread, and the latter as “an intriguing name”. |

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach (Volume 2)
I dont think it matters who the next coach is. I think this organization is too screwed up for anyone to succeed.
|
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach (Volume 2)
Well, I, too, like David Shaw, but since he's not on the list, I went with Kevin Sumlin. Jay Gruden has been a head coach before btw - albeit it was the arena football league. For some reason, I just am not excited over the possible choices for head coach. I have a feeling if it's someone with no head coaching experience in the NFL (coordinators or college coaches) then you'll probably see them being rotated out pretty quickly. I'm still thinking this is all just one big nightmare and I just need to wake myself up! Can't believe a team that rattled off 7 straight wins to win the East and get into the playoffs last year turns in one of the worst seasons I have seen from this organization in a long, long time. So, it makes me feel whoever comes in, they have a lot of work cut out.
With that said if the Giants job comes open....you never know.
it's not , maybe OC or DC .....Coughlin is there until he wants to leave .Record for starters in one season is 55 ,Giants have had 47this year add in a death of a relative (brother) and it's been an overall bad season .All teams have injuries this year they just could not get around them . |
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach (Volume 2)
I voted Sumlin. I think RG3 and Sumlin would have a good working relationship since it appears thats gonna make a difference in the organization and has to be taken into consideration now. Sumlin to me would benifit from a weak division we are in. Eagles and Cowboys are pretenders.
David Shaw, Bevell would be my preference over Sumlin. Im impartial to Jay Gruden, but you have to be impressed with how that Cincy offense has developed, especially with Dalton who was a bit of a project. So that does give me hope if he is the choice. No way in hell I want Briles, Jon Gruden, or R Morris. f8ck that noise |

I think that his weak coaching staff was a major problem. No need to go into detail there. As for the players, there were a number of positions where there was little to be lost by giving someone else a chance to win the job by playing them on Sundays. He should have known that some players play better in games than they do in practice. Whatever... it's irrelevant now. I'm just trying to look smart. |
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach (Volume 2)
Is Bruce Allen the contracts side GM, while AJ Smith is the talent acquisition side GM? How did Smith get into the mix on this decision?
Pretty confident I guess. Hard to say
I light of the contracts for Briles & Sumlin, neither is coming here, although I would've liked either one. He's been successful wherever he's been.
Another off-season circus. |
Coughlin is a great coach

From what I understand, A.J. Smith is merely a consultant. |

Coughlin might be the most under-rated coach in the NFL. |
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach (Volume 2)
We don't want him then. We need people committed to making this work. I believed MS was that guy but all of this shows he's more committed to making himself look good.

I hate Coughlin but he is fantastic. He almost lost that job before he finally figured it all out (how to lead) and then proceeded to win 2 SB with decent but not great teams. |

Takes a lot of mental toughness to pull your team out of the crapper.
Someone less tough may have taken the salary and quit on his team. Can't think of anyone though. |
Makes no sense then y even be one
Makes a lot of sense. Smith doesn't have to take the brunt of the responsibility that the full time GM in Washington would have to take on. He merely provides advice to the GM on player personnel, doesn't have to leave California, and if things go belly up, he isn't the one to blame. But moreover, if Smith does want another GM position, then being a consultant is a good way to get your name back out there and to provide something good for your resume. |

Gotcha

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach (Volume 2)
^ That is okay with me if it makes Bruce Allen better. I hope Smith drops a bug about KW in Snyder's ear. I'm sure he see the job Ken is doing with that SD offense.

I'd be ok with KW here he's a good coach

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach (Volume 2)
Most Charger fans consider AJ Smith the sole reason the team has been bad.
They blame him for ripping the team apart by not signing their proven talent and adding players that have been busts. AJ Smith is another train wreck waiting to happen. |

Rex Ryan, He has done more with less than any coach in football.

I think that's all moot if the front office is promoting Allen and Moroco. |
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach (Volume 2)
What about Ken Whisenhunt? He resurrected Kurt Warner, and he has now helped Phillip Rivers bounce back toward being an upper tier QB.
