Re: The Redskins Head Coach job is the best opening available
Why bet on Griffin improving next year? #1 he had a very serious injury, I'm still amazed we even have to say this. #2 never question his drive to succeed.

It's amazing, given 1 bad year coming off an injury and an unhappy relationship with your coach how much things can change. It's like everyone believes 2012 was a myth. |

A few ?'s... If the A list guys on our list don't take the bait do you think we're more likely to see a Sorn type hire (minimal experience, willing to accept minimal authority) or a Gregg Williams situation? Do you see us moving quickly on the HC hire at least? You hearing any chatter about the desirability of the job from insiders/potential HCs ? |

This. Did everyone forget how it felt when RGIII was streaking down the sideline without a single Viking defender touching him? His numbers this year weren't great, sure. How do you think you would have played after having major knee surgery? He's not a super hero as much as everyone thinks. He's a 23 year old still adjusting to the NFL. The dude is a serious talent and anyone underestimating his skill is in for a big surprise. |
Re: The Redskins Head Coach job is the best opening available
Ok i'll take the wait and see approach with Griffin. But the chance exists that we could be eating some humble pie. Just about every recent QB we've had here fans have said the same thing about. It's almost like we want to believe we have a winner so bad that we will believe in anything. I bet if Mark Rypien came out of retirement, and was somehow signed by the skins, many on here would believe that he would be like he was during that magical 1991 season.
2012 was a great year. But the knee injury not withstanding, once the read option where RG3 did so well was inexplicably taken away, he looked below average.... Why did we give up on the read option? I've searched and searched and I don't think its been mentioned on here. Was it really just to keep RG3 safer?? |

Only in bizzaro world does that make sense. Why go to Texas? That's not a great job IMO. Nfl gigs in b more are maybe the best in the league. |

I really believe that the knee played a big part in it. I will honestly wait and see next year before i make a judgement one way or the other. I just hope for the sake of this team that we all love so much, they don't wait too long to make some kind of change if it becomes clear that Griffin is not himself. I'm just like everybody else in that I want a winner and I want to win now. We have all been plenty patient...it just gets frustrating some times when year after year goes by and the skins are at the bottom of the barrel, no matter who is at coach, QB, etc.... |

With ANY QB you give him a few years to adjust to the league. In my opinion, with a player like RG3 with clear athleticism and play making ability, and with so much invested in him, we damn well better give him at least 2 more years to get things right. |

“I keep reading it’s a bad job,” said Charley Casserly, the former general manager of the Redskins and Texans. “It’s not a bad job. Dan Snyder gave total control to Mike Shanahan. He’s put Bruce [Allen, the team’s GM] in charge now. Bruce is coach-friendly. People won’t mind working with him. There are zero issues with the franchise and that job.” But in the wake of the scrutiny surrounding Shanahan’s relationships with both Snyder and quarterback Robert Griffin III, Casserly’s view is not universally held. |

Re: The Redskins Head Coach job is the best opening available
It's not a top job simply because we lack talent. But with BA now in charge, and an owner that will spend money, not sure why any coach would not want to come here. I think a lot of the dysfunction left town. The Snyder RG3 relationship issue? Hopefully the cleat chaser will cool it so the new coach can put his stamp on the team.

Re: The Redskins Head Coach job is the best opening available
I'm hearing that Bill Cowher has interviewed twice with Dan Snyder.
Bill Cowher: Great Coach, tons of respect for him. But i think it's a bad hire if they pull the trigger on him. Bill Cowher will oneday be fired by Snyder, it is inevitable. Bill Cowher left behind a great legacy in Pittsburgh. There is nothing he can do short of winning a superbowl here (which is almost impossible it seems), that will live up to what he did before. The day he is fired will be a terrible one for Cowher fans, as he deserved better. The man's whole career has been respectable and he is a good leader and a good guy. I do not think he deserves all the BS that flies around in DC... |

I think Dilfer has it right: “It is a desirable job. There’s only 32 of them. When people talk about maybe ownership is going to be more patient in Detroit, in Houston — okay, maybe. But if you coach for the Washington Redskins, you’re gonna be paid market value. “You’re gonna live in a nice area of the country. . . . If you’re a guy with multiple teams after you and you can choose, maybe some of the things that have gone on there in the past can affect you. But guys are not gonna turn it down. Most guys don’t have multiple offers. And you’re not gonna be in a situation there where you’re desperately looking for a quarterback.” It all comes down to the play of RG3. If he becomes the elite talent he showed the potential to become in his rookie year, the next head coach is going to have to try really hard to screw up his tenure in DC. Better scheming and a few parts can solve the Defensive issues overnight. They don't have to be a top 5-10 Defense for this team to succeed. They just can't be bottom of the league bad. |

I know Smoot hates the term "the media", so take my use of it here with the meaning -- Those in media positions who will always try and spin a Skins story negatively. Our next coach whoever it shall be, needs to be media savvy, there will be plenty of circus like questions until the coach and FO can get a handle on handling the media. In my opinion, this is one of BA's better attributes. He doesn't come out heavy handed, but he does seem to be able to get his message out, while maintaining a positive spin. If the coach is also likeable (ie not nicknamed demon bunny, or ratface) than that would be a giant step forward for this organization. Even the fact that Griffin left without stopping for a media circus may show that he kinda gets it too. |
So I haven't been in the loop this last week , who have we interviewed so far? And who will we?

That said if our new HC is a little green I trust BA can manage the situation so it's not everwhelming. I also think a guy who mostly ignores the media would help lol. |

The fact that he has his critical thinking cap on and understands how the league works shows that the job isn't terrible. Or even considered as such in league circles. |

Darrell Bevell, Jim Caldwell, Perry Fewell, Sean McDermott... at least that's who have definitely been confirmed to have been interviewed, as per the "Who do you want as a HC thread" I'm throwing this name/link into the mix. Rich Bisaccia; Cowboys special teams coach. U know Caldwell was solid in Indy but that 2-14 year scares me. As for the rest of those guys I guess I'd go with bevelle

Re: The Redskins Head Coach job is the best opening available
so, 6 plays a game? Sorry, not gonna spin that into a NFL coordinator. Also, the cowboys special teams were nothing special, and that is one area of the game where scheme and coaching has a TON to do with the product on the field. This guy is just a Bruce Allen Lackey, seems he might be giving tryouts to his friends.
Im just saying, its not often you go from special teams coach to head coach of the third most expensive NFL franchise. I think this would be a mistake. Worse than Shanny mistake, but that is just my opinion. |
