Re: When are we gonna play?
Someone said they throw a pretty ball...
We don't need to pass. With all the TE/H-Backs we have, we'll just run it down someones throat.
LOL. Our offense is going to drive Daseal crazy! No 10 receiver sets |
Re: When are we gonna play?
Too bad Spurrier got a job, he might have gotten to make a living coaching us! ;)
J/K Daseal Kinda... :) |
Re: When are we gonna play?
alright, alright, i'll be the resident fat guy...
6'3", 315 (currently, once softball season starts, i tend to drop anywhere from 25-50 lbs) I can anchor the O Line at Center or Guard or D Line at Tackle. Slower than molasses, but definitely not afraid to throw my weight around and knock guys off the line...depending on the rules (especially flag, if everyone is eligible), I will catch anything thrown at me. I am also a helluva kicker...in college intramurals, I was automatic from inside 35, and hit one from over 40 once. when i played rec dept flag, i was perfect on PATs (i kicked like 10 or so in 2 years, wasn't the main kicker), and hit a FG or 2. just keep me in the loop...not sure I can play, but would like to know what's going on. |
Re: When are we gonna play?
I'm guessing this will be the official thread for a while, so I guess this is the place to keep checking. Hopefully TAFKAS will have word from the Redskins sometime soon.
|
Re: When are we gonna play?
Quite the opposite, TAFKAS. Though I like to see 4 receiver sets sometimes. All we seem to have are TEs. 10 TEs make me happy!
|
Re: When are we gonna play?
So who is going to be the speed guy or the RB?
|
Re: When are we gonna play?
I sent an email to the Redskins early this morning, after I posted. If I don't get a reply in a couple days, I'll start calling them. I pretty much told them the same thing TAFKAS did, except I mentioned possible sponsorship by whomever is sponsoring Fan Day, ostensibly Home Depot (that's who did it last year). I figure between the Redskins and a sponsor, we should be able to drum up pretty good publicity for the game, as well as prizes/trophies, and any other expenses that would go into.
I also mentioned that everyone would sign an injury/liability waiver when they register. I think the registration fee for charity purposes is a brilliant idea, and something that could really convince the Redskins to go forward with this. As far as the field goes, they rarely ever use the turf field at Redskins Park, and they wouldn't have to worry about us tearing up their grass practice fields. The only thing you'd have to worry about with the astroturf is the turf burns/strawberries whenever you fall or dive for a ball. There's always a risk for injury, though, no matter what kind of field you play on, and personally, I think it would be safer to play on the astroturf than it would be on the grass practice fields or the bumpy, grass parking lot (which is a broken ankle waiting to happen). I was also thinking about playing the game(s) during the intermission between morning and afternoon practices. I forgot that they don't have lights at Redskins Park, though. I had been thinking that if we decided to go the tournament route, we could play the championship game in the evening, after the afternoon practice. I'm hoping Gibbs will push to have lights installed for training camp. It's gotta be a real headache to have to covertly move the team to a secret high school field every time they want to practice at night. I think if we can get plenty of support for this event (and I really think there will be a lot of interest from all the other fan-sites), the Redskins might buy into it, especially since the proceeds from registration would go to charity. By the way, my hands aren't great, so wide receiver/tight end isn't the best spot for me. I'm love playing cornerback/safety, though. I can play linebacker, too. I guess if we get enough interest, we could have an offensive and defensive squad. Had anyone considered the possibility of doing this for the Draft Day Party at FedEx, too? It's a little short notice to do it this year, but maybe if we're successful with this training camp thing, we could see about doing the same thing for future draft parties. Last year, the field was all torn up anyway, and they let the fans run around playing catch on the field, so I don't see why they'd object to having an organized flag football game after the first round is done. I haven't contacted anyone from the other sites, but I'd assume there'd be a lot of interest once we do. |
Re: When are we gonna play?
i can try to be the speed guy if its flag... i'll get torn up in tackle though :)

I'm feeling very optimistic about what you've said. I also like the idea of playing on the turf. Pretty much everyone here said they'd play tackle football, so I don't think they'd care if they had a few bruises from flag football on turf. I think that they need to open it up to a limited number of websites/groups however, because if they open it up to the general public, there is no telling how many people will want to enter and it may be a bigger headache for them. I would love the idea too, of a player/coach officiating the game. |
Re: When are we gonna play?
I'm sending emails to hailredskins and extremeskins today, are there any other sites I should contact? I feel like I'm forgetting someone.
|
Re: When are we gonna play?
If we can get this together we'll get some jerseys made up. Anyone have any suggestions as to where we can get some custom made??
|
Re: When are we gonna play?
how about thehogs.net?
Crisp, I tried sending you a PM but you need to clear your inbox. Wanted to know if you could email me a one page (or less) proposal that I could send off to the names I mentioned in my previous PM to you...I know I'm being cryptic but you know what I'm talking about |
Re: When are we gonna play?
I used to work with a place that made jerseys/t-shirts/everything. Just let me know...

Re: When are we gonna play?
I'm amazed how mobilized everything got in the course of a day. I'm pumped!
|
Re: When are we gonna play?
Also, I'm about to head home from work for the day so I won't be checking posts until about 7-8ish, so if you want to know the name of the place, it is Sayre Enterprises and they are in Buena Vista, Virginia.

Re: When are we gonna play?
5'9", 150, sub 4.0 40 (but I have to be really motivated, like Rachel Hunter or Halle Berry as bait) Flag, post, across the middle WR, just don't ask me to remember audibles or block. I play CB like Smoot but get injured more often, haven't played for almost 20 years and was crap then. Yay!
I'm willing to fly out for a game and training camp. |
Re: When are we gonna play?
Hey ... been away for the weekend and missed most of the earlier posts. I am definitely up for the game. 6'2" 240. Problem is I am slow as molasses. Can catch okay... but don't get a lot of separation : )
Generally, I play line and am perfectly willing to do so for the team. Depends on how the rules work - but most flag teams I have played on have 3 lineman and 3-5 receivers. |
Re: When are we gonna play?
As long as we can get some big blocking pads then I think we can have a full 11-on-11 game.
|

They do sell padds at sporting goods stores. |
Re: When are we gonna play?
Maybe the Redskins can supply some. If they are going to let us use their field, I would bet they would let us use their blocking dummies.
|
Re: When are we gonna play?
we should ask uh, ask biggirl... she's like a pro, and stuff... get her to field a team of ringers for us ;)

did someone say dummies? I've got a few ideas...starting with :Smoker: I'm sure he'll be happy to oblige |

Call me stupid, but who is biggirl |

She's one of our members, and also a member of the DC Divas...Though I think she might have said she's retired now |

I'm sure he'll be happy to oblige
Ok that went over my head too. You know that us military folk are about as bright as a 2 watt light bulb! In our defense we have common sense and are highly motivated. |
Re: When are we gonna play?
Extremeskins is interested, haven't heard back from anyone else yet.

Good job, you important person, you! I love it when good ol fashion American know-how presents itself in the form of a leader. |
Re: When are we gonna play?
The only other viable board I can think of with plenty of members is CPND Hardcore, which is part of that "other Warpath", The Insiders.
TAFKAS, I cleared some room in my mailbox, and I'll go ahead and try to write up a proposal. |
Re: When are we gonna play?
With all of the die hard Redskins and football fans in the Metropolitan area, I am sure that we can get a Tournament together, much less a game.

The :Smoker: icon is in "honor" of ZackMills, a former Warpath member who got run from this site after saying one dumb thing after another. He always ended ever post with that icon, so hence that icon has come to symbolize a dummy, idiot, moron, whatever |
Re: When are we gonna play?
I'm just concerned about this getting waaay too big and it just being plain pandemonium where the only way people can enter is by paying a huge entrance fee.
Then again, it could be a multi-day event. |
Re: When are we gonna play?
Wow. This is totally amazing! I'm not sure that I can be down in DC, but I weigh 420 and look like the comicbook guy in the simpsons, so the O-line it is...J/K
I'm 6' 180, used to be able to run kinda fast--CB, I suppose. But like Ade Jimoh, I'll do whatever is needed to help the team. :biggthump Anyway, y'all are on to a good idea here! Can we get a beer co. to sponsor? :food-smil |

Re: When are we gonna play?
I'm just going to put out a generality here...
Since we all had the idea of having this football thing, wouldn't you all agree the board has been a nicer place to be? It seems the estrogen has died down... :) |
Re: When are we gonna play?
I still haven't heard from anyone at hailredskins or thehogs.net, I'll shoot them another email. Extremeskins sounds interested, so maybe it will just be us against them.

Re: When are we gonna play?
Sounds great to me. At least that means one sites memberships will decline due to injury. ;)

Hello Matt and fellow Skins fans... Great site you got here! I'm one of the moderators over at hailRedskins.com. We would love to participate in this flag football tournament. I'll PM you with my contact info so we can start talking about details. I've organized a few flag football events for hailRedskins over the past year, so I'm sure we can field a team for this event. In the meantime, I'll start a thread over at hailRedskins gauging interest in playing. dj |
Re: When are we gonna play?
Excellent. Good to hear another site with some interest. :)
