And just think, he could have gotten PAID and retired with all the pot he could smoke. |
Re: Fred Davis Bye Bye
What a waste of talent -- would folks be inclined to re-sign him at the vet min (which is all he will get from anywhere)? I have to say, I was in favor of seeign what a new coach can do, but I cannot say I trust this guy to make it through a season, and sometimes you just have to move on.

Re: Fred Davis Bye Bye
Some people estimate 50% of players smoke, that's probably on the low side. You have to be pretty dumb to get caught. Pretty sure the tests aren't random, until you get caught that is. Just stop smoking for a few weeks. Not hard.

Naw, that would make way too much sense. |

I certainly wouldn't defend the bonehead, but I tend to feel like the sleeping on the job is the worse offense then smoking some pot on his own time. I think most others would agree that he is an idiot, but that the rules are useless, and that in some cases (not necessarily this one) it could lead to loosing out on some great talent for something really benign. |
Re: Fred Davis Bye Bye
Mike Shanahan should invite Fred Davis over, they both have plenty of free time now. And it's legal in Denver

The point is that all rules aren't created equally. He should be punished, but a ban from the game for smoking some pot is a bit much. Someone with the talent of a Fred Davis is a little bit harder to replace in his field of work than many of us are in ours. |

Here's how I imagine it would go: Mike: "Would you like to smoke some legal marijuana Fred? It's becoming quite fashionable out here, you know. The wife picked up these his and hers crystal bongs when she went shopping in Aspen last weekend. You can use hers. She's out buying some more "shit" right now. Can you believe that people actually call it "shit"? Well, anyways I'm starting to like it a lot. My favorite brands are Mile High and Super Bowl. Go ahead Fred, take a "hit" and put on some tunes while I get us a couple of Coors. Fred (to himself): What the **** was that? He must be trippin'. He knows I can't be smokin' that shit right now. I was just gonna ask him for some help findin' a job with another team. I got to get outta this place! |
Re: Fred Davis Bye Bye
well, the other way to look at it is we could get an injury replacement once reed goes down again at veteran minimum prices. 8-10 games of fred davis is still better than 16 games of niles paul.
it's a real shame he's not that bright though. it really is kind of a waste. |
Re: Fred Davis Bye Bye
there is no fred, only zuul.
|
Re: Fred Davis Bye Bye
This is a dumb question but is it a done deal that Davis is gone? Have the skins released him??
|
Re: Fred Davis Bye Bye
He was on a one year deal so he's due to be a FA.

Re: Fred Davis Bye Bye
it's still banned under the cba, so they won't, or they won't have any traction. when they redo the cba though, i wouldn't be surprised if it's brought up.

Re: Fred Davis Bye Bye
It doesn't matter if the entire US makes weed legal. It's within the rights of the NFL to ban its usage. Many of the drugs on their PED list are over the counter stuff that is legal and yet it is still banned.
Legality of the drug is really irrelevant. |

I'm on record calling Davis a lousy pick in 2008, and I've been a frequent critic since then. Good riddance.
Over the past few years, I have to believe that we have one of the worst draft history's in the NFL.
Which begs the question: If the majority of these misses were recommendations from Scott Campbell, how does he still have a job? The story that Vinny was overruled on Jamaal Charles with the Malcolm Kelly pick would seem to indicate that Kelly was the choice of Snyder, with possible advice from others.

Re: Fred Davis Bye Bye
The problem is the Redskins are not patient with young players.
We draft players to let them go. we have focused on the next free agent that we brought in instead of development and depth. |

The issue is front office guys like Campbell haven't been listened to enough over the years, something that is supposed to change now. |
