Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
I was killed from my earlier post that Aldrick Robinson has some of the same attributes as DeSean Jackson. They both are deep threat WR's and can run after the catch. I'm not saying Robinson is as talented as DeSean but he is much cheaper and doesn't come with the baggage. I'm torn on this because the last time the Eagles gave away their star player it was McNasty. We got hosed on that deal. The Eagles not only gave away their best WR but they have a cap hit this year for 6.5 million for releasing D-Jax. They must really wanted to get rid of him. We have seen DeSean be a distraction for the Eagles over the years , but also seen him make big time plays. If the price is right sometimes you have to roll the dice and hope he grows up and becomes a real pro. Its funny if we sign him we get blasted by the Haters. Yes we have made some dumb free agent signings but DeSean is 27yrs old with tons of talent so how can you not take the risk if you need a another WR to go along with Garcon. This gives RGIII another big time playmaker and who says if we draft a WR he will be productive. I read that D.Hall wants him here so lets make it happen for the right price. HTTR

Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
DeSean is from Long Beach, CA a area with a lot of Crip gangs. He grew up in a area that has street gangs so you know he still has the hang a round guys when he comes back to home. D-Jax has a record label so you know his label isn't signing country western singers. DeSean needs to decide does he want to be a record label mogul or a pro bowl football player. I hope this is a wake up call for D-Jax.

Considering we paid Morganvery close to that for his shit show last year, sure. |
Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
Baggage? What Baggage? Oh I know, 1300 yards last season type of Baggage. Tons of explosive plays year in and year out type of Baggage. That Baggage has made more plays then everyone on the Redskins combined last year. Yeah, I'll take that type of Baggage all day. I remember many people on this board said the same thing about Marshawn Lynch when he was available, about how much trouble he would be and yada yada yada. He's never been arrested, never been in trouble, he has the same demeanor as Steve Smith, which you have to possess when you're small receiver. He will make our team better, and that's a fact.
|
Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
Sign him immediately. w/ Garcon, Robinson, Roberts, Moss, Hankerson, Bellamy, Gettis, Williams... That's pretty good to goto camp with. He's torched us almost every game against us. This is not comparable to McNabb. Why the fuck would anyone get McNabb? Who cares if the dude has a record label? Or hangs out with peeps. He either does his job or is let go. Pretty simple. Huge upside. I don't believe all the hype with character issues. Confident that shit will be kept in check with an RG3 team.

Depends how much. You can't tie up so much cap room in two skill position guys like Garcon and Jackson.

Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
Big risk/reward move. I would like to see us get it done, and I've found myself wondering why nobody brings us up when talking about teams that have WR needs. I vote yes, but would really like to see a 1yr deal worth no more than 2-3 million.

It's going to take a 4-5 year deal.

Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
My only concern is the ability to extend Kerrigan/Orakpo/Morris/Williams if we sign him. I really dislike him, but not to the point I disliked Deion when we got him.
That would be a ton of money locked up, but loving that he takes care of two holes in one signing. |

If we can afford it, no question. Innocent until proven guilty, always.

Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
Maybe 1-2 guys, but we'd have to let at LEAST one walk.

Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
D. Jacks is 27yrs old in his prime. When he was released the whole NFL east said WOOOO! he's no longer in our division. Imagine how Mara would feel if we signed him, he helped lead the 36 million dollar cap hit we took. AR & D. Jacks I Believe are about the same size and both are fast. Imagine running a play with D. Jacks the FS has to play deep respecting the speed and BIG play ability you know the ball isn't going to D. Jacks he was used to open up the middle. Now put AR in the FS plays closer now we go deep AR just has to make the catch hopefully not a basket catch. D. Jacks makes everyone more of a weapon. What ever the SKINS decide to do I'm with, just don't want them to give to much $$$ I know it's going to take a lot. Sorry for the rambling.
I think he would be the definition of a locker room cancer. His performance isn't in question...I dont think the skins need more of a media circus in the coming years. I definitely vote no on signing him.
I laugh at this concept. That locker room cancer didn't infect the Eagles enough to prevent them from being NFC East Champs last season. He'll relate to a guy like Hall pretty well. Will he be a great citizen and vocal leader? Probably not, but his on-field impact is too great. |

The good news is the cap is going up dramatically in the near future, so backloaded deals are possible. But we also may need a large contract for RG3 by ?2016-2017. By that time, as you said -- we'd have a very large portion of our cap tied up by a few players RG3, Orakpo, Twilliams, ?Garcon, ?DJax, ?Morris.. |

Not rambling, it's solid football thinking. Nobody will confuse Zach Ertz or Brent Celek for world beaters at TE, but did you see the space they had to operate last year? That was because DJax was scaring safeties into holding the deep middle, opening up the seam. Now picture Jordan Reed as the one taking advantage of the open seam. I mean, yo. |
Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
Question I believe BA said he was going to sign at least 20 players this off season so would D.Jacks count has two or three players since he can play WR, PR & KR.
|
Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
Unless we start going back to VC ways of cap management, or Mara et al give us another spirit of the cap penalty, you can always maneuver within the cap to keep your guys. That is assuming that you want to, and also assuming the cap does go up the way it is projected to.
|
Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
Drama aside, I think the upside is too great to not make a serious push for him. Garçon, Jackson, Reed, RG3, Morris... yeah good luck to any defensive coordinator trying to stop this offense.

That would be a ton of money locked up, but loving that he takes care of two holes in one signing.
I can understand the concern but I can also dispel the notion that Desean will prevent us from resigning our big guns with a little cap analysis. Let's look at 2015 where we currently have $107M committed to 42 players. The cap is estimated to come in around $140M, so there's currently $33M in space there. So starting with $33M in space: - figure on $10M in space for 8 more players, taking you up to 50 - figure on $7M in space for Desean, taking you to 51 Let's stop there. That leaves you $16M in space, with Desean, and with a full roster. So now think of the typical offseason moves they'll face next year before you begin making moves: - Stephen Bowen has a cap hit of $8.0M. You could save $5.5M by releasing him. Um, bye. - Chris Chester has a cap hit of $4.8M. You could save $4.0M by releasing him. Um, later bro. - Logan Paulsen has a cap hit of $2.1M. Nice enough player, but cutting him saves you $1.7M. You could, at minimum, get him to easily drop that salary and bring him back. Let's stop there. You just added $10M in space with those cuts. So we're back to $26M. Now what: - Let's say we give Griffin the big extension and he eats $15M in space instead of his $6.7M he's scheduled to. So $8.3M additional space gone. - Let's say we extend Trent for life. His cap number would actually come down from $13.7M to like $10M. So believe it or not that creates space in 2015. - We lock up AlMo because he's a beast. $5M cap hit. - We lock up Orakpo. $8M cap hit. - We lock up Kerrigan. $6M cap hit. Stop there. Those moves ate $23M in space. You now have $3M in space left. So yes, you can keep everyone with Desean just fine. And I'm probably being very liberal with the cap hits on Almo, Orakpo, and Kerrigan. There are other moves that could be made in there as well to save cap space. It's not a problem, Desean fits fine if we want him. |
Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
As much as I would like to have Jackson, I say we pass. We'd have too much money committed to the WR position with too many other holes. This is a move a contending team should make. And as someone else mentioned, you don't win Super Bowls with wr's. But he fills two needs. I wouldn't be upset if they made the deal.

Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
2012 we made the playoffs and if not for RGIII's leg you never know what could of happened 2013 we go 3-13 and if not for RGIII's leg you never know what could of happened. We are not that far removed from a playoff team it all comes down to RGIII's leg. So IMO to say we are not a playoff team is not absolutely true.

In the NFL the distance between 6-10 and 10-6 is not large at all. Sign Desean, and all of a sudden you're looking at safety or RT with that 34th pick. You cross WR off your list. The effect is bigger than just a dynamite WR. |

I disagree. 3-13 had a lot more to do with the overall talent level on the team. Plus the team was 3-6 in 2012. It comes down to not having enough good players. Jackson gives us a top guy at WR and teams, coming off his best year as a pro. It's a tough decision for the front office. |

Unless the Oline play changes drastically, which it might with a new coaching staff but I am not betting on it (mainly because the talent doesn't seem that much better than last year), that offense wouldn't be that great. |

I don't care what we do sign no sign. but we finished 10-6 2012 yes we went on a 7 game winning streak other teams can do that we cant.
