No, Were you going Seastrunk? |

Outside of OL, I would say Breeland, depending on what you mean by start. |

you thinking the slot? I really think we'd be in trouble if thats the case. I was thinking about putting Rak on the line, hand in dirt and putting Murphy over him. |
Re: RT and OL thread
It kinda amazes me that after all this clamoring for OL, over 60% of the board thinks that Neither will start week one, or that no rookie will have an impact for us in their rookie season.
I was one of the many clamoring for O-line, and we took two relatively high. So I'm happy now, regardless of whether or not they're Day 1 starters. Our O-line, with those two draft picks and the additions of Lavuao and McGlynn, is much better. But if Moses starts sometime during the season it wouldn't surprise me, and I do expect Long to start at some point. But even if neither are Day 1 starters, they'll still have an impact as depth. I don't want to put either one out there if they're not ready. If neither Moses nor Long look like the best options at RG and RT, do you still want to have them start? Wouldn't that be change just for the sake of change? Except worse, because it would be an inexperienced rookie you'd be throwing to the dogs. |
Re: RT and OL thread
I dont think we would have taken them relatively high if we didnt think they could make an impact year one

Fair enough. The added depth and maybe a few starts by either Moses or Long near the end of the season is enough impact for me. |
Re: RT and OL thread
Murphy is definitely going to have the chance to make an impact right away.

Well I mean a guy like Murphy for example won't start but should get a lot of playing time. Here's how I see it Murphy-Significant playing time, won't start barring injury Moses-Lots of game day inactives Long-Could start toward the back end of the season Breeland-Practice squad Seastrunk-Some early inactives, but I think he'll make a push for playing time toward the 2nd half. Knocks Thompson off roster Grant-Has the potential to make Roberts look like a complete waste of a FA signing Holser-Cut Hocker-All he has to do is make the team and he starts, and I think he's got a great shot |

Re: RT and OL thread

Day 1 will be Watt, Clowney, and Cushing against our OL. We all know Polumbus just can't handle that in pass blocking. I don't know that Moses can but (barring a terrible preseason) I believe the Skins will go with the trial by fire method for Moses. Maybe not, but I just can't ever shake the comment by Gruden that when he was playing QB a missed block by his RT caused him to break his ankle - or something to that effect. When he watches Polumbus on film, he is going to see a guy that gets beat on the edge every single drop back. That means there will be a lot of chip blocks on that side, and if you have to give help, then imo go with the guy with more upside, and maybe he gets it. That would be Moses. |

Who do they really like as depth at CB...Crawford? someone else? This is an issue. Depending on injuried players like Crawford and Robinson at ILB is a concerning. |
Re: RT and OL thread
Good breakdown of Polumbus, including a GIF that shows on at least one play Polumbus did a very good job of providing a pocket. I swear I think it's photoshopped :D.

Re: RT and OL thread
Polumbus isn't nearly as bad as people seem to think. He's middle of the road guy that can hold down the spot until he's pushed out. No need to rush Moses in there until he earns the job.

Re: RT and OL thread
...Breeland-Practice squad...
Breeland wouldn't last very long on the practice squad. |
Re: RT and OL thread
I think Polumbus sucks. When we're talking about a guy basically having his career year in which he's essentially, at best, just average then its time to figure out a path away from said player. Now whether they'll feel like Moses is either ready to be the guy or needs to get dropped into the fire to round into the guy I don't know. But let's not fool ourselves. Polumbus is not a starting at RT for a consistently good football team.
It all depends on what they feel is the best way to develop Moses. I am not a big fan of developing a OLineman by having him take a few snaps during the week in between the starters working on game plans and then deactivating him every weekend. I hope that unless they think he might just get overwhelmed they just put him in and can watch him grow. |

Crawford only got hurt one year, and was a freak play where he made a bad decision on a PR, but at times in 2012, he looked like our 2nd best CB. |

I doubt he would make it to the the practice squad, he would have to clear waivers first. He will make the team. |

Good point; I wasn't thinking about that. |

Breeland should definitely contribute on special teams at the very least.

I think there's going to be a surprise, and that surprise will be Breeland. Just my guess

Murphy-Significant playing time, won't start barring injury OK Moses-Lots of game day inactives He'll play after Polumbus allows RGIII to get trampled a couple of times. Long-Could start toward the back end of the season Fair enough. I'd guess sooner. Breeland-Practice squad Not if he's good on ST. Seastrunk-Some early inactives, but I think he'll make a push for playing time toward the 2nd half. Knocks Thompson off roster. Seems reasonable to me. Grant-Has the potential to make Roberts look like a complete waste of a FA signing No way. Roberts is very good and he's twice as fast as Grant. Grant may be perfect as a 4th receiver and ST player. Holser-Cut Wasted pick. Hocker-All he has to do is make the team and he starts, and I think he's got a great shot I'll take your word for that.
This is what I would call a General Manager's type of draft. I say that because it looks like we've filled most of the holes with stop-gap FA veterans and drafted players with upside who may need some time to develop. If the HC got to "buy the groceries", I think our draft would have looked different. |
Re: RT and OL thread
Just a little off topic but it's funny to me that Will Montgomery went from the Redskins to the Broncos. The player that might have been the main player responsible for the play causing the most damage to RGIII's knee (bad snap). To the team that set the worst tone on the first play of a Super Bowl (bad snap).

Somebody's gott take the blame for our 3-13 season! LOL, people forget this line was looking pretty good two years ago when RGIII and Morris were setting rookie records. Instead everyone here is clamoring to start our Day 2 Rookies against one of the best pass rush teams in the NFL week 1. #nopatience |
Re: RT and OL thread
I am willing to bet, unless Moses looks lost in space, he will start. Polumbus can run block, but he can't create a pocket at all.
Well it certainly hasn't help that he had three other bums to the left of him. |
Well it certainly hasn't help that he had three other bums to the left of him.
I am talking about outside rush, not the middle. Many times Polumbus just got plain beat off the edge. That has nothing to do (or very little) with the 3 other bums. |

I guess I'm thinking that a good coach can account for one, maybe two, average to below average linemen...not four. |

Taking on Clowney in Week 1 just got a little less scary. While I never had sports hernia surgery I have had a regular hernia and the recovery from any surgery in that area is a b**** even with laproscopic techniques (operating through a keyhole rather then making a large cut to repair the area). I practically needed to use a putter as a cane to walk around the house the first few days. |
