Re: Paintrain's all encompassing 'discuss all things offseason' thread (Version 2.0)
lol....I'm rooting for Griffin and hope he has a comeback year. But I just don't get all excited cause we hear he's running around fast. He's not a RB and we need him to run less. What I like to hear is that he went out to see Terry Shea. Now that means something cause that tells me Griffin knows his fundamentals got sloppy last year and he's trying to improve in that area. Now that gets me excited!
It's the whole package for me. I think we are going to win the division this year personally. III with a big fu to the league. |

Granted I feel a little out of the loop but my once favorite show NFL playbook became most difficult to watch when they started featuring McNabb. Though from what I can tell from the story it seems he works for Fox now. |

I think we are going to win the division this year personally. III with a big fu to the league.
I don't think we win the division this year. Just too many variables...how good a coach is Gruden, how will Griffin III perform, will our supposed-to-be-aggressive pass rush make up for a poor secondary, will Kotwica improve the STs or be like Burns and take the STs even lower than the previous coordinator, how will the OL look, etc. That being said, here's my pre-draft, pre-training camp, pre-preseason division predictions. 1. Philadelphia. They won last year, and even though they haven't improved significantly so far, it's a weak division, so they have to be the favorites. 2. Washington. We've improved the most through FA, but there's two huge question marks: Gruden and Griffin. If they both flop, we'll once again finish last. If they perform well, we should be in it 'til the end. 3. New York. Manning will almost certainly be better( heck, 27 INTs? How do you even throw that many? :joecool: ), Cruz and JPP should be back to beastin', and obviously Coughlin's a good HC. While I don't see them as better than Philly right now, they're close to us. Maybe could switch 2 and 3 around. 4. Dallas. They've still got Romo, Witten, Bryant, and Murray on offense, but lost their two best pass rushers and have a terrible coach. Once again, good O, no D. |

Yeah I'm sure that was part of it. Not having any pre season work probably didn't help either. |
Right now I'd say we are even with philly and the Giants and Cowboys follow in that order.

Slight sidebar NFL DOT com is really ticking me off right now. Strike 1 - Autoplaying videos when clicking on articles. Strike 2 - Loading a 30 second ad for a 39 second clip. Strike 3 - No direct mute or volume option on the videos when the ad is playing. So when I have my speakers set at a decent volume I end up freaking out when it starts to sound like the voice of God is demanding that I try Oreos. |

That's actually a huge reason I try and stay away from NFL.com for my news. They constantly barrage you with ads in videos, banners, sign ups, etc. We get it, you've whored out to every ad contract offered but keep it at a decent level for the fans please. |

I still have us at 1.
2/3 Eagles and Giants but not nessecessarily in that order. 4 Boys 2 reasons with the Eagles: the league will figure out Kelly and 2 they haven't done enough for me to believe they are flat better than us. I think the giants will surprise some people this year and not be as bad as the analysts think. |
Anybody else hedge a bet on guessing the rams schedule for 100 grand?

For some reason I always pull for him when it doesn't hurt us. Eli is constant, good or bad. Cowboys: Fuck'em
Your analysis of the Cowboys is dead on. I think the division winner will be determined by the health of the starting QB's. To me, the most glaring flaw of each of the teams in the division is the lack of a quality backup QB. Cowboys - Tony Romo suffered a serious back injury late last season, so there is no telling how many hits he'll be able to take or if he will be a be to regain the mobility that has given other teams fits and extended plays. His backup is Brandon Weeden. Are you kidding me? If the Cowboys are forced to go with Weedon, they're dead. Eagles - Their starter is healthy and talented but if they should be forced to go with Matt Barkley for any length of time, it will hurt them because Barkley just doesn't have an NFL arm, IMO. Giants - After having a horrible 2013 season, Eli Manning has now had ankle surgery. Chances are that he is not going to have an easy recovery from surgery on such a complcated joint. Curtis Painter is a joke of a backup and I doubt that they can get much out of Ryan Nassib. Redskins - Kirk Cousins had a chance to show what he could do as a starter last season and he didn't play well. The Redskins didn't win any of the games he started to finish out the season. The Redskins had better hope that RGIII stays healthy this season. |

He's horrible, too. He hasn't played well for at least the last two seasons. |
I think he is an adequate backup. Whatever though. Freeman and Painter might be better than our back ups. Especially if Cousins gets traded.

No they arent. Neither is Mccoy. I would probably take Freeman over any of them though.

The evil part of me would love it if that were the case but the numbers he put up last year made me think that in this system his floor is that of a 90 QB rating. Time will tell but unfortunately I think Foles is for real. To bad he's not like McNabb where we could at least rely on a couple of balls in the dirt. Then again maybe he could turn out like Eli where his stats on a year to year basis are all over the place :D Stop Nick Foles Plan Phase 1: Take away best receiver Phase 2: ?????? Eli Manning, in that same time period as Freeman (his second, third and fourth seasons), threw for 10,342 yards, 71 touchdowns and 55 interceptions. We're not suggesting Freeman, Flacco and Manning are interchangeable, but we are trying to take a look at the bigger picture here. According to the analytical site Pro Football Focus, he's between a 50-60 percent passer under pressure as a regular starter, which is no different than Andrew Luck's first two seasons (again, not suggesting they are the same player). Forget the numbers for a minute. Have you seen Freeman play in the last couple of years? Do you think that your team could win enough games with him under center to lead your team to the division title if Eli were to miss ten games, eight games, or six games? Bear in mind that the other teams in the division might be starting Romo, Foles, and RGIII over the same time period. No team in the NFC East is dominant over the other three teams in the division. In most division games, there will come a time when a QB must make a play for his team to win. For example, fourth down in the Red Zone with his team trailing late in the 4th quarter. That type of play. I think Eli, Romo, Foles, and a healthy RGIII can make that play. I don't think that any of their backups can be expected to make that play. Therefore, I think that the health of their starting QB is critical to each of the teams' chances of winning the division. Now, if you were to tell me that you think the Giants will completely dominate the division at the LOS and that they could win the division with any half-way decent QB, then that is another argument altogether. |

No team in the NFC East is dominant over the other three teams in the division. .
Giving Freeman enough time to learn a system and not have a head case for a head coach ,yes I think he could lead the Giants if need be .What you need to realize is Romo ...is Romo , Foles has had one good year , RGIII has had one good year ,Freeman has had one good year, so yes I do . As for NFCE teams , no teams are dominant ,every time one plays another they are battles ,big wins once in a whiles but mostly battles . |

Good luck with that. Your arguments that tried to roughly equate him with Flacco, RGIII, and Foles were very weak. He is so poorly regarded at this point that he was fortunate to land a backup job. By the way, your OL has not been "fixed". Your team has made some good moves in an attempt to fix it but, right now, there is no verification that it has been fixed. If and when it is fixed, you'll still have a poor group of RB's operating behind it. I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend. |
