Chico, I was not happy about the pick just to be clear.
But he hasn't played a down in the NFL yet. Don't think we can say what he is just yet... Wouldn't you say?
I needed him to be Morgan Moses, but he is now, so I'm good |

Trent Murphy is about to go on ESPN 980.

I love his nickname "Yeti" big white boy.

Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
Guys.. We run the nickel 70% of the time. We play the Eagles twice a year. Nothing wrong with adding quick pass rushers.
|
Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
How can we not invest in both Kerrigan and Rak???
|
Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
I feel so bad for him right now. Everything I've read about him screams football player. If I had to describe him to a Caps fan I would say the Redskins answer to Brooks Laich. However for that x minute gap between the Murphy and Moses pick a lot of us were freaking out, not me of course I totally kept it together.

The way those 2 contracts roll, we could have a problem |

Agreed but where does he rush from? Do they move Kerrigan inside on 3rd downs? |
Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
Welcome to the Redskins, make us all a believer.

Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
I think Murphy gains weight moves to DE and replaces Jarvis Jenkins eventually.

Could live with that, saw someone compare him to Jared Allen just not as quick which is big talk, but we shall see. |

Kerrigan is gonna have to give us a discount, but ok. I didn't say I hate them. |

The guy is only 250lbs. He's not a DE in a 3-4. Maybe they move him to ILB with Riley. |
Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
i dont mind the player, just seems like a reach is all.

TBH, I like Kerrigan more that Rak. I think it should be Rak giving the discount but we all know that will never happen. He's not elite but he wants to be paid like it. |

This pick was smart and it looks even better now since we still got Moses

I think this means Rak's days are numbered. Unless he has a career year this year, he's gone.

Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
Work ethic and love of the game seems to be very important to Gruden and Co.

Personally I think hes going to be an excellent fit here but we'll see. |
Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
This guy has incredible instincts for making a play and utilizes more than one move to get to the QB. He showed a bull rush, rip, and spin move on his highlight film. Not to mention his multiple interceptions for touchdowns and deflections
|
Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
I think they will use him like JJ what! you say about my momma (a little early morning humor). They will move him all over the line. IMO they are going bigger looking for tipped balls (please no jokes) at the line of scrimmage.
I think this means Rak's days are numbered. Unless he has a career year this year, he's gone.
Time for Rak to put up or shut up. He likes to think of himself as a premiere pass rusher in the DeMarcus Ware mold. Wanna get paid like that? I wanna see 15 sacks and 5 forced fumbles from Rak this season, now that the shackles are supposedly coming off.

I agree Orakpo is gone, if he has a good year he will cost to much to sign, if not, he will want more than he is worth |
Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
Regardless of what we think about Rak's future, he's on the team for 14. Actually, I like this pick as now we can put another pass rusher on the field. The secondary wasn't the only issue with the defense.

Damn right! Nothing helps a secondary more than a strong pass rush. Plus, we may still pick up a promising CB or safety in this draft. I have to admit that I started liking this pick a lot more after we were able to get Morgan Moses in the third round. |
Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
I'm gonna let this pick slide because of the Moses one pick, but I will blame Murphy most responsible for my hangover this morning
|
Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
I'm digging the idea of Rak, Kerrigan, Hatcher and Murphy all getting after the passer on 3rd downs.
Pass rush definitely upgraded for 2014. |
Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
Looking at his highlights, he's a clone of Kerrigan. Especially the jumping to bat the balls down. He looks to have very good instincts when it comes to football. I'd bet good money the front office has no plans to re-sign Orakpo and this pick probably solidifies that thought. I suppose that would hinge on them playing him at OLB.

I mean they could find a way to make it work. Do you want to over pay for both? Good franchises dont overpay, they replace. This is their shot at replacing. |

Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
I'm coming around on this selection. I like scrappy players, he definitely will get in there and fight through the whistle with aggression. The fact that we got Moses anyway makes me feel much better about this.
I don't think it means Orakpo isn't in the long term plans. I think it means the team wants as many pass rushers on the field as possible on passing downs. I see no reason we don't keep Rak, Kerrigan, and Murphy around long term. Rotate them throughout the game and stay fresh. Then here's the kicker: on nickels, slide Kerrigan inside with his hand down alongside Hatcher, and let Orakpo and Murphy come off the edge. If I were an offensive coordinator I'd feel tortured by that look. |
Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
I like the pick, but still worry about team speed on defense.

Good Read. Im really excited about this pick. As for the knock on his speed and burst, how is he getting sacks in 2-3 sec? Kind of reminds me of Fletcher and him not being tall enough and what not, but he just was always there to make the play. |
