Re: Projected Lineup... Your thoughts?
We don't have any 7th rd rookie OL, but 3rd rounders yes I would be fine with that if they show that they are the best players, which I believe they will
As do I. However I also understand one of these 3rd rounders dropped that far due to poor technique while the other is coming off of a knee injury. There's no doubt they WILL be our starters in the future. I'm just advocating we give them some time before we crown them "Day 1 Starters." |
Re: Projected Lineup... Your thoughts?
One of Moses or Long will be starting week 1.
Book it. |
Re: Projected Lineup... Your thoughts?
Regarding Offensive lines in general it's a good idea to have continuity in season with that group so I would think whoever wins a job in training camp/preseason will keep it barring injury or obvious struggles.
So I don't see the whole "work them in mid season" plan happening. |
Re: Projected Lineup... Your thoughts?
I would hope that whoever wins the job throughout camp and the preseason keeps it till the end of the season. If not, then the player is performing poorly and we probably aren't playing very well.
How many winning teams shuffle linemen in the middle of the year? Maybe the Ravens did it a couple of years ago (Super Bowl year?), but I could be wrong. |
Re: Projected Lineup... Your thoughts?
All the 1st hand accounts I've seen so far seem to think that Moses will need more time, but that Long could seriously challenge.
If both are ready, I'm fine with them both starting. Sort of reminds me of the '81 skins when they started 2 rookies at Guard....next to a first time starter at Center. That turned out OK. Hail! |
Re: Projected Lineup... Your thoughts?
I would like to see the o-line become:
LT: T. Williams LG: Shawn Lauvao C: Josh Leribeus RG: Spencer Long RT: Moses Morgan The sooner we get this line up on the field, the better. Give them time to develop and play with each other in real action. Stop shelving young talent. |

Re: Projected Lineup... Your thoughts?
^^ I would too. My biggest concerns with that line-up is that it makes a couple of big assumptions: (1) Moses lives up to his talent and doesn't go all "Winston Justice" on us; and (2) LeRib gets his lard butt motivated and plays to his alleged potential. I think that one of those two things is unlikely to occur. I don't know which it will be although my money is on LeRib never becoming a serviceable lineman.
Obviously, there are assumptions about Luavao and Long too - I just think they are more likely to pan out. |

What type of football-shaped meatballs have you been eating? |
Re: Projected Lineup... Your thoughts?
Draft picks tend to get better by playing in games. At some point during the season the young bucks need to take over.

Re: Projected Lineup... Your thoughts?
True, but having two rookies on the right side of the line to start the season seems awfully ambitious. Don't get me wrong -- if they outshine the incumbents, so be it. But it's not like either were considered 1st round OL studs and it may not be realistic to pencil them in as starters. I realize the strong desire to move on from the Chester-Polumbus matadors; I share it. But I think it will take some time -- perhaps a good part of the season to work toward that goal.

Thank You! Why is everyone crying to get the rookies in ASAP? The line wasn't that bad last year and putting rookies on the same side of the line is very risky. People are forgetting about this "adjustment period" it takes for rookies to adapt to the NFL. |

i am not expecting playoffs this season, let the rookies get wet.

If the rookies can't beat out Chester and Polumbus then we in trouble. |
Re: Projected Lineup... Your thoughts?
Long is more ready than Moses because there is more to be learned at the Tackle position. But it's going to need to be gauged on a player by player development basis. Can't just throw a player in there if he's not ready whether it's the first game or it's the last. And you can't just throw a player in the game primarily for the sake of his development when he's not ready.

Our pass protection was horrendous. If we pass protect again this year like we did last, I am frightened for RG3's career aspirations. Chester, Monty and Polumbus really sucked a golfball through a garden hose last year. Their pass protection was absolute liquid shit. |

looks like a good lineup to me, I think our d will be much much better..
Our offensive line scares me. The whole thing except for Trent. There is nobody else on the team that makes me feel any better about it either. I think Moses will be an upgrade but he is a rookie. Im hoping Thomas can move into a starting role also at S. Our front seven on D and the skill positions on O are the tits though. |
Trying to figure out why people think Moses wont start day 1
You and me both. Tyler freakin Polumbus is absolute trash. It is one thing to go with experience over youth and a complete other thing to go with it over trash. |

Until RG3 learns to successfully read a D pre-snap and make correct audibles and call out protections, I want to smartest available guy doing that for us and I dont think montgomery or lerib is that guy. Center and MLB are the 2 spots I want on-field coaches manning. |

And while we haven't seen much of him at center in the pros, he was praised before the draft for his high football IQ and how well he did at making the calls on the line. I'm totally fine with starting him at center; his great run-blocking skills will be used well there, while his poor pass-blocking won't hurt so much. |

Licht's pass blocking might even improve, since he's bulking up this year. |
Re: Projected Lineup... Your thoughts?
I will say this, looking at our roster it certainly looks improved over last year. Add in a healthier RG3 and we could win some ballgames. I'd say 3-13 or worse is a real long shot.
Pretty much nowhere to go but up unless Griffin was a mirage or Gruden is in over his head...or both. |

Yes, but 10-6 aint exactly stale. Its basically healthy griff vs non healthy griff. The team around him is no doubt improved so Im giving us the benefit of the doubt. Edit: do you remember the first quarter of the Seattle game? There was a stretch of about 5 weeks and a quarter before "the injury" where we were world beaters. |

A healthy RGIII is a huge difference-maker. And with a solid WR group to add to Alfmo, I think that we could definitely go from 3-10 to 10-6. I think we could be damn near unstoppable on offense in 2014. Also, the FO has put some emphasis on improving ST and the D and I think we'll be better in those areas, as well. So that will help. But you're right: we sink or swim with RGIII. |

interesting comment: Which returning starters (one each on offense and defense) are at greatest risk of losing their job? #redskinsmailbag — Big John (@Big_John_1906) June 12, 2014 John Keim: Well, the obvious one on offense is right guard Chris Chester. He is not coming off a good season and the Redskins have several young options at this position, between Spencer Long, Josh LeRibeus and Adam Gettis. Plus if they want to free up more cash, it's an easy way to do so ($2.7 million cap savings). But I still have to see proof that the young guys are capable of starting. Defensively, you could put Stephen Bowen in there because of his injury. But that's not what you're looking for. Jarvis Jenkins is an obvious candidate because of the depth up front, but he will still play. The Redskins also have more options at inside linebacker if Perry Riley doesn't play better overall than last season. But he's also the highest paid inside linebacker. Interesting to think he was a must sign, but now there is this possibility. |
