Does anyone think this tirade about the 6.5million and his knees might go hand in hand because he knows he only has a very limited time to play well because of a bad diagnosis from the doc and he is trying to get every cent now?
SportsC mentioned this during the year. No one agreed with him, he may have been pretty on. |

As a loyal skin fan since 1967,Ihave seen it all.Lavar is a STUD!He ended Troy Aikman`s career.Pay that man his money.

Re: (rumor) lavar on crutches again after another surgery
Maybe he needs the money to pay for the 56 Plasma tvs he got for his house.

Re: (rumor) lavar on crutches again after another surgery
LA is full of crap and this mess is all his fault not the skins. If memory serves it was LA not the skins who rushed him back last season. In fact Bubba Tyre tried to stop LA from practice and LA got up in BT's grill and threatened to get physical with him for stopping him. Then LA slipped reinjured his knee and the rest is history. Once again this goes back to my post last week about the skins drafting million dollar bodies attached to 10 cent heads. Who cares how hard LA hits or whose career he may or may not have ended, he's too often out of position and always seems to have some dispute with the FO that is a result of an oversight on his part.
If I've said it once I've said it a thousand times, the skins should have traded LA when they had the chance and he had some value. |
Welcome 184!

Welcome Skinfan184! Glad to have you! He is making a ton of money already. His money dispute is really not with the Redskins, it is and should be with his agent! |
Re: (rumor) lavar on crutches again after another surgery
Ask any player about being on IR and the rehab process and they'll always say it's a lonely road. It feels like you're not part of the team anymore, like nobody cares, etc.
Did we learn anything new from this? LaVar talks when he's upset, not exactly big news or anything to get too excited about. |

Re: (rumor) lavar on crutches again after another surgery
aehs - There's no way he's leaving. His contract is too massive to move. Not like anyone would traded for damaged goods anyways...
From what I'm hearing... he's due a large roster bonus soon and it may actually be a good financial decision to dump him if he's not improving physically. |
From what I'm hearing... he's due a large roster bonus soon and it may actually be a good financial decision to dump him if he's not improving physically.
Nope. It would be a financial disaster to move him. His cap hit would be massive. |
Re: (rumor) lavar on crutches again after another surgery
Seriously, people turned on LaVar damn quick before knowing the facts. Taylor is already wanting a new contract and no one is ready to crucify him yet (not saying we should, but let's give people a break before we know the facts).
Absolutely agree. It's pathetic, ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC, to see some people who were already predisposed to disliking the guy use the misfortune of an injury like this to get up on their soap box and crucify him even more. He's a passionate guy. Period. He wants to be out there cracking skulls with his team. And because he can't be, he is very, VERY frustrated right now. He's never given anything less than 100% for this team and anybody that doubts his intentions or his passion for the game in my book isn't even worthy of a direct response. So I'm going to stop and leave it at that before I say something that gets me kicked off this site. |

Do you understand the cap at all? There is no way this is even remotely under any circumstances possible. I am not even going to work the numbers up because I know what they'll say. His cap number would accelerate to this year and be like 10 million. That is not going to happen. If he died in a car accident tomorrow they'd probably have to carry him on the roster simply for cap reasons(j/k..i am sure there is a provision in the cba for something like that. just making a point.) He is not going anywhere. And everyone who is jumping down his throat.. While I would agree the sentiments probably aren't the most beneficial in history he didn't come out and say specific things about specific people. The only person mentioned was Gibbs and how he hasn't ben able to build a relationship with him yet. Not exactly earth shattering. His venom seems more directed toward the organization and he was seemingly being driven by a frustration over the lack of progress in his recovery. This emotion is what makes him a good player(and sometimes a reckless player too). This will all blow over. I do wish they would just handle this contract issue. Actually I wish Lavar would wisen up and realize this is the agent's fault and can his ass. I really wish the NFLPA would step in and tell Lavar he's SOL since his agent sucked. I mean why in the world would the Skins try to screw him out of money...it doesn't even make sense. If anythign there was either miscommunication or at worse they accidently left it out. Of course that is why you are supposed to READ a contract before you sign it. I guess that fact is lost. These players rely far too much on their agents. They treat them like parents or something. Grow up and make decisions for yourself with guidance from the agents. Don't let them decide for you. |
Re: (rumor) lavar on crutches again after another surgery
I have never questioned LA intensity or desire. What I do question is his blaming the redskins for rushing him back to the field when exactly the opposite is true. My problem with LA is that any problems involving him are always someone else's fault, the team rushed me back, the team screwed me out of $, I'm too constrained by the scheme, etc.. He cries wolf so often its hard to take any of his concerns seriously.
|
Re: (rumor) lavar on crutches again after another surgery
Lavar was just emotional.....no big deal. He's not going anywhere, and I'm sure Gibbs already has this issue resolved.
|
Re: (rumor) lavar on crutches again after another surgery
He has no reason to complain, just think of the millions he is raking in from his amazing Easterns Motors commercial. Hahaha.
Do you understand the cap at all?
Yes, I do. Do you? I understand that giving a player a $6.5 mil roster bonus is stupid if he's not going to be on the field. Current Contract: 8 years, $68 million, $20 million total bonus. Includes a $15.5 million bonus allocated as a $4.2 million signing bonus in 2003 and an $11.3 million option bonus in 2004. Roster bonuses from 2006-2011 as follows: 2006: $6.5 million; 2007: $2.05 million; 2008: $3.15 million; 2009: $3.8 million; 2010: $5.4 million; 2011: $6 million. Remaining prorated bonus from original contract counts approximately $2.62 million each season from 2004-2006. Base Salaries: 2004: $535K; 2005: $540K; 2006: $545K; 2007: $2 million; 2008: $3.5 million; 2009: $3.5 million; 2010: $6 million; 2011: $7 million. |
Re: (rumor) lavar on crutches again after another surgery
The current release fee for lavar is over $18 mil. Do you not understand that the whole bonus accelerates if you cut a player? That would put us more than $16 mil over the cap if we cut him now.
|
Re: (rumor) lavar on crutches again after another surgery
I realize that we can't drop him now... but next year it might make sense rather than paying that roster bonus.
|
Re: (rumor) lavar on crutches again after another surgery
I realize that we can't drop him now... but next year it might make sense rather than paying that roster bonus.
Next year his release fee is over $13mil. We are already going to be around $10 mil over the cap and his salary is only around 500k in 2006. So that's a $12.5 mil hit on top of the $10 mil we're already going to be over. Still doesn't make sense. If for some reason he stays injured and can't play, he would likely be cut in 2007 after we clear the giant cap hurdle next year. Now, if there's an uncapped year... :) |

Re: (rumor) lavar on crutches again after another surgery
I thought next years cap was looking okay since Coles cap accelerated.
|
Re: (rumor) lavar on crutches again after another surgery
I thought next years cap was looking okay since Coles cap accelerated.
we're still at $105 mil for next year. I'd guess the cap will be around $95mil. What we did by shipping Coles out is transfer some of that burden to this year. It (the Coles trade) right now looks like the difference between several restructures and a possible player release vs. blowing up the team ala Martyball. |
Re: (rumor) lavar on crutches again after another surgery
LaVar isn't going anywhere, let's just drop this silly discussion.
|
Re: (rumor) lavar on crutches again after another surgery
I can't wait till LaVar comes back 100% healthy, leads the defense, and goes to another pro bowl. I wonder if everyone will be begging for him to be released or traded then. Everyone forgets he had a chance to leave before signing his extension just like Champ, Fred, Pierce ect. and he stayed because he believed the in the franchise and loves the fans. If you think the only reason he stayed was the money you are out of your mind, he could have easily got a contract like his from any team who needed a young, balls out, pro bowl linebacker with nothing but upside. So you guys talk about drafting Derrick Williams (not saying I don't like him), trade LaVar, or cut him, but I am sticking with him because he will come back and be the same force we all know he can be.
|
Re: (rumor) lavar on crutches again after another surgery
PSUFAN - I doubt he could have gotten that contract from any team. Most teams don't have that type of money. He's the highest paid linebacker in the league with that contract. If you don't think that was a majority of his motivation, you're crazy. He's shown how money hungry he is with the greivance.
LaVar is a good player, I've never disputed that. I feel he's slightly over rated because he makes either amazing plays or overruns it. He's not someone you can count on for the solid tackle. However the question is does his pressence warrent the contract. I'm hoping he proves me wrong, but as of now -- no. He hasn't played and I'm willing to give him time to recover, but right now that contract is killing the skins. Especially for a guy who doesn't want to be marketed. Vick/Manning got their contracts because they sell seats and jerseys. The skins have no problem filling seats, and they just recently were able to sell his jersey. |
Re: (rumor) lavar on crutches again after another surgery
I didn't like the contract when we did it, and I like it even less now, we treat Lavar like a franchise QB, when he's not even a franchise LB!

I'm numb! I'm not sure I have a reply to the above! LaVarr is a 3 time P-Bowler! So, he's not a L. Taylor, ..................................yet! But certainly nothing to dis-like! |
Re: (rumor) lavar on crutches again after another surgery
In terms of the support from [team officials], it's like nothing," Arrington said before leaving Redskins Park early this afternoon. "It's like, just let me disappear and die. To me it kind of [stinks]; it [stinks], because it's not like I have a relationship built with [the coaches] anyway, because they're new and then I get hurt and every year it's always someone new [as a head coach]. Does that mean it's right the way it's being handled? . . . It makes you wonder, man, what's their agenda?"
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Shut up, you fucking crybaby. Wipe your tears and blow your nose on a Benjy, you bitch. What's their agenda? Their agenda is to win, asshole. You sitting on the bench sucking up cap money and whining doesn't help. If you can't play because of injury, fine, sit out another season, but stop blubbering. |
Re: (rumor) lavar on crutches again after another surgery
I totally agree Daesal. No other team would have given LA a contract like the skins gave him in addition, LaVar's contract just is not in line with what he has been contributing to the team. He's a good player but not great and is making great player money.
I hope I'm wrong but I am really thinking LA's contract is as bad as the one the skins signed with Deion. |
Re: (rumor) lavar on crutches again after another surgery
Actually it's kind of funny to see people so sure that Lavar wouldn't have gotten the same contract elsewhere. You see, you have absolutely no way of knowing that because Lavar didn't even test free agency. Rather than dic# around with the skins, he signed the long term deal without regard to whether he could have done better in free agency. And now he gets killed for it. Now people want to cry about how much the contract is killing us. You're rediculous. When he signed his contract had already been a pro bowler more than once and he was in his early 20s. He was also universally regarded around the league as one of the top 3 or 4 OLBs in the league, with NOTHING BUT UPSIDE on the horizon. Yet somehow, some of you speculate that no other team in the NFL would have offered him the same deal. I guess the skins are just the stupidest team in the league then, right?
I just can't believe this. This is how we treat one of the few consistent pro bowlers we've had over the last 5 years? A guy who has said numerous times he wants to be a career Redskin, and unlike so many that have come and gone since then, has actually done everything he can to be a career Redskin. And this is how Skins fans repay him? He gets injured and we spend our time talking about how overrated he is anyway and trying to come up with ways of cutting him. God Forbid Samuels gets hurt next year, we'll be devoting a whole thread to trying to find ways to cut his a$$ too.......because he's just so overpaid and he would have never gotten the same contract from anyone else. It's just absurd. I guess the lesson Lavar should learn is that you should just go ahead and test free agency and bleed everything you can out of your team because the fans are just going to see you as a burden the first time in your career that you let them down because you had to get knee surgery because you don't know how to play at less than 100%. Great lesson guys. |

Re: (rumor) lavar on crutches again after another surgery
I personally don't feel that Lavarr is over-rated, and I was happy to see him sign the long term contract with us, but it pisses me off to no end when guys piss and moan while they sit on the bench. The coaching staff didn't cause LA's injury, so what the hell is he talking about? The skins are going to let him take his sweet time healing up, as they should- we'll be better with him, but our defense is going to be competitive regardless thanks to Willams. But LA should shut up, rehab, and earn his keep.

Re: (rumor) lavar on crutches again after another surgery
I couldnt care less whether LA wants to be a career redskin or not. What I do care about is the redskins winning the super bowl and right now the team appears to be hamstrung in that effort by a bad contract with a disgruntled player. Redskin fans and the organization need to focus on the organization winning and what that will take instead of worrying about whether one player will get his feelings hurt by being criticized/traded/cut for the betterment of the team.

Re: (rumor) lavar on crutches again after another surgery
I didnt say 1 contract is keeping the team from the SB, what I'm saying is that the skins are cap strapped and LA contract seems to be a big contributor to that problem and because the team's options are limited due to being strapped their ability to assemble the players needed to win the SB could be being hampered.

Ok, I understand what you're saying, but we can't blame our inability to assemble players needed to win the SB on LA's contract. That blame would have to go to our FO. They're the ones going out getting the players. Say what you want about LA.......just remember that he's not going anywhere. |
Re: (rumor) lavar on crutches again after another surgery
I agree the blame goes to the FO, they got the team into this position by signing bad contracts and making bad deals.
I dont care if LA stays his entire career or goes tomorrow as long as the redskins win. Player come and players go but the team is forever and that's who I want to win. |
Re: (rumor) lavar on crutches again after another surgery
Our inability to get players is hinged on many big contracts, LaVar's is one of the biggest. I think Samuels got a larger bonus but less overall -- something like that.
I hope what you say is true, and before you joined certain people weren't high on Arrington, PSUskins. It's not like this is a new thing. As I've said he's a good player -- but not fitting of the contract. I'd trade Takeo Spikes for LaVar any day of the week! |
Re: (rumor) lavar on crutches again after another surgery
Who is Lavar Arrington?
Personally I'm tired of all the drama - the licensing rights, the $6.5M, the knee, the new coaches, blah blah blah... Wake me up if/when this guy hits the field again. |
Re: (rumor) lavar on crutches again after another surgery
Don't forget that he wants a say in personel decesions! Because LaVar almost skipped the NFL to become a talent scout!
