Ryan grant was impressive today. Too me, he's ahead of Robinson. I thought Robinson made a bad holding penalty and couldn't get a first when had blockers in front of him on another play.

I also find it interesting that gruden chooses to use miles paul as the pass catcher instead of Paulson. Paulson is used exclusively to block.

Did anyone notice when cousins came in, the Oline looked immediately better pass blocking? Cousins doesn't hold the ball, he reads and has a has quick trigger. I thought it was obvious between the 2.
I don't know much about QB play but I could definitely see Cousins going through his reads. His head was on a swivel.

Yeah, but I think Paulson hands are better.

I heard DJax was a mild shoulder sprain and he should be back next week. I can't imagine him wanting to miss that Philly game.

Serious Question here - Rich Tandler the redskins blogger is saying that RG3 may be out for most of the year. Do the redskins do the whole Damon Huard / Trent Green thing? What i'm asking is if the Skins are winning and in playoff contention with Cousins, do they go back to RG3 or do they stick to the hot hand?

It would be terrible to see Kirk and the team almost get to the playoffs to have a hobbled RG3 come back and tank the season...
I REALLLLLLLLLLLY wanted Rambo to work out (and Phillip Thomas for that matter), but it's not looking good.

No matter, I thought all the "Shanahan is meddling with Haslett" was kind of BS, but part of me really agrees. His defensive schemes looked creative and we had some rookies and backups really contributing. After seeing Chris Baker at NT, Cofield might be able to go back to DE and eat people up like he used to (not that he was bad at NT). LOVE me some Bashaud Breeland. Guy is going to pick up right where D. Hall leaves off when he goes.

Also, an unheralded guy is Trent Murphy. The stat line might not show him, but every time I see him he's either making a pressure or eating up blockers. Only a matter of time before he starts getting the sacks.
I agree. I like that he does not have to start. He can develop and hopefully he will be ready for next year. That way we can spend the $11million Orakpo money on a Right Tackle and more.

The think with Paul is the catches he does make, makes you think: "Wait, he caught that? Great catch!"

And the ones he drops make you say "How in the fu*k did he not catch that?"

But if he can develop into a 2nd receiving TE, we will be even more dangerous.

Terrible comment about RGIII. Whether or not you like him as a quarterback, he deserves some compassion after all he's been through.

Re: Skins-Jags Positives and Negatives

The running game looked great and should be the focus of our offense. Kirk did beautifully, now I'm holding my breath and see how he does when a team actually gameplans against him. I want him to succeed, but I'd feel much better after seeing go through a whole game where he is the starter from the get go.

I feel bad for RG3, in the short time that he was in the game, he looked like 2012 RG3. That throw to DJax was beautiful, and it sucks to see him go out in such a freak accident. I think his time with the Redskins may be over, I wish there was a way for him to stay. I remember him joking about being a WR, when he went out in 2012 and Kirk played well. But this may be a Drew Bledsoe/Tom Brady type situation situation, with an unknown outcome of course.

The defense looked great, there were a few mistakes that need fixing. Hopefully the defensive coaches take notice of this. We still desperate need a good FS, a guy that can play the deep ball.

We can't have the same stupid mistakes against good teams; there were wayyy too many flags and penalty yards.

Finally, some people may say that the Jags stink and/or were very beat up with injuries. For two quarters, they were dominating the Eagles last week, which many people have already penciled for the playoffs. But, we're supposed to beat up on bad teams. We haven't done much of that in the past.

I'd be curious to see what the Iggles o-line looks like tomorrow, they lost one of their starters. I think the NFC East is up for grabs, the Giants suck, we always seem to play the Cowpukes well, and I think a lot of people are overhyping the Iggles.

Mistakes. He the fumble last week was a massive mistake. And he had a big drop today. I like the guy, eliminate the mistakes and he could take his game to the next level.

You think this is the end of RG3's tenure here? Doesn't he have another year left after this one?

If Cousins comes out and does well overall... I dunno man. It's not even that RG3 has been sucking, but moreso, if Cousins gets the hot hand, do you go back to the starter when he's healed? We all know that RG3 gets the heeby jeebies and a major confidence blow after injuries.

I think as Niles Paul gets more playing time I think he will shake some of the drops. Some people may not remember or were too young know that another Redskins #84 Gary Clark suffered from drops as well.
Clark dropped several critical easy ones, he was wide open and the ball was delivered in his hands:

Clark picks himself up after early drop Two TD catches help Redskins win - Baltimore Sun

When a receiver drops the easy ones concentration is the problem and it can easily be remedied. Just like we did not give up Gary Clark, I am glad we did not give up on Paul.

If the D-Line can continue to play well, and we can tighten up the Safety position, the Defense should be OK. It is hard to tell because we have played two inept offenses the first two week.

What i like the most about today's game is we continued to run the ball, and the backups played well. We have lost out starting QB, TE, NT, and WR to injuries and our backups have played well.

Our 3rd string RB had 41 yards.

Speaking of which ESPN really needs to change their quick stats for D-Lineman and 3-4 OLB's.

Does anyone seriously care more about Forced Fumbles and INT's with players like Ryan Kerrigan then they do sacks? At the very least there looks to be more than enough room to add a sack category.

Also in the offseason a lot of us rightfully focused on Desean Jackson, but Jason Hatcher looks to be the crown jewel of this latest free agent class.

Everyone needs to take a breath and chill. KC played an outstanding game. Coming off the bench cold like that is very difficult to do. He made some throws that were as good as you'll see. He and Grant have obvious chemistry. But it's one game. Let's see how it plays out. Calling it RG3's last game is ridiculous. But some of you need to realize that having a good backup is crucial. J Gibbs use to say that's he's the 2nd most important guy on your team and I agree.

It is a sign of solid cap management when so many backups can come in and contribute. The one player on the team that i believe to be irreplaceable is Trent Williams.

Best case for Griffin is probably 6-8 weeks. If he makes it back this year you evaluate where the team is heading at that point and make a decision. It's way too early to have any real idea of what might happen.

Let's see how the MRI goes.

The Defense , two great games this year ! With RG111 and DJax going down early , we played extremely well . If we were told this morning we would be w-out RG , Reed and DJX , you would not have expected 40 points . Negatives, Inj's and penalties .

That would be a dilemma since it will be a contract year for both RGIII and Cousins? Or is it the following year? If Cousins plays the rest of the season like he did today, RGIII will be no longer a skin in the future.

How about Niles Paul? Jordan Reed may not get his job back. Don't want to get ahead here but this is the sign of a good team. Starting QB, TE and WR is out? No big deal. Drop 41 and 400 plus yards of offense. And they may not be able to keep this Redd kid on the bench either.

Coff 09-14-2014 09:36 PM

Re: Skins-Jags Positives and Negatives

My two cents: the last time RGIII was healthy, he was an elite QB and one of the best we've ever had. Then there was last year, when he was no where near healthy, the head coach and O-Coordinator seemed as concerned with undermining RG as they were with winning. And the defense couldn't stop a pop warner team. I'm confused that there are so many people willing to discard him in the hopes that the backup is the next Montana. There's one thing every annoying fan of every team believes: the backup QB has Hall of Fame talent. So that said, as far as the positives and negatives of this week, I only have one thing:
Negative: RGIII getting injured.
